Cinderella (Live-Action)
Re: New Cinderella Adaptation by Disney
Unlike the animated movie, which was more French inspired, the architecture and fashion in this one looks more German/Austrian empire-style. I love how cinderella looks a bit like Elisabeth/Sisi of Austria. Although I think I'm more of a fan of the huge animated castle, were everything looked all polished up and shiny.
However I'm still a little skeptical about everything since the animated one was by far my favorite childhood movie and will never be surpassed. That movie is strong in it's simplicity. In this trailer I'm seeing lots and lots of glitter, gold and magic, which will hopefully be a bit toned down in the final/full cut.

that's exactly how I feel. I know this is gonna be different from the animated version and i have to accept that but i do kinda wish they kept the french style with the gorgeous color choices by mary blair.Toky wrote:Unlike the animated movie, which was more French inspired, the architecture and fashion in this one looks more German/Austrian empire-style. Re: New Cinderella Adaptation by Disney
I think the animated film had a mix of French and German/Austrian architecture. I think we saw more of the French in the chateau scenes and more of the German in the palace scenes. The king, prince, and Grand Duke looked like the old Prussian kaisers of the 19th century. Since we only saw scenes of the palace, maybe we will see more French-inspired architecture in the full trailer?Toky wrote:Unlike the animated movie, which was more French inspired, the architecture and fashion in this one looks more German/Austrian empire-style. I can't believe the trailer FINALLY comes out tomorrow!! I feel like the film will have a fairy tale-lush look, similar to the 2014 French version of Beauty and the Beast (which I have seen and is beautiful!).

Re: New Cinderella Adaptation by Disney
Toky, the glitter, gold, silver, glass, and magic are what I love most about Disney's 1950 animated Cinderella! That and Cinderella herself! I hope the film keeps the same level of that stuff that the original had, which it looks like it will (ok, maybe a little more...which looks like I will love!). Remember, one thing director Kenneth Branagh revealed was he was going very big with this film. Perhaps over the top. But the original had some over-the-topness. It had big, poofy dresses. It had very big, very high architecture. Even a castle so big it rose above some clouds. And incredible magic scenes. So what do you love about Cinderella, if not the glitter, gold, silver, glass, and magic?
The film did indeed have French inspired design. Mary Blair and some other Disney artists were flown to France to get inspiration for the film. But I read in a book Walt Disney and Europe, that the castle is German influenced. But in a "making of" for Cinderella's 1995 home video release that the architecture was supposed to be from the reign of Louis XIV of France which was in the 1600's-1700's. I prefer the designs of the original film to the designs of this film of course, but I also love these new designs.
Right on, tsom!
The Prince in Disney's 1950 animated Cinderella looks like he may have been influenced by Austrian princes. Here's a picture of him next to Franz Joseph I of Austria, the portrait's from somewhere in the 1840's to 1850's:

OH MY GOD. Words cannot describe...how great...how beautiful...how amazing...
Interesting that the Fairy Godmother will have a 1700's dress. But then again, she may lived through the 1700's to the 1800's...and the 1800's seems to be where this film takes place...that or "once upon a time".
I love it all.

The Fairy Godmother looks just like the fairy godmother in the Marcia Brown Cinderella book. I'm sure that storybook may have been one of their inspirations for the film's visuals. I love that the fairy godmother ins't matronly. I can't wait to see her beggar woman look. Her hair looks sort of 1920s-ish. I love it all!
I didn't expect the heel of the slipper to be that big and thick. Haha. Goodness, that really is a glass shoe! Even more realistic than the glass slipper in the Brandy version, and that one was very realistic.
Although I think the sets and costumes will be a combination of different time periods, if I had to pick a century this was set in, then it is definitely a once upon a time fantasy version of the 19th century.
Just a few more hours until the trailer! So excited!

Re: New Cinderella Adaptation by Disney
I agree with all you said except I don't feel any of this film takes inspiration from Marcia Brown. I don't really like the Marcia Brown version...but maybe it is from her.
It would be good if this was set in a fairy tale version of the 19th century, because that's most likely where Disney's original 1950 animated one was set.
I'm gonna try to go to bed now and then wake up around 10-11 to watch my recording of Good Morning America! Like you, I'm so excited!
And you are a master at finding things! Thanks!

Re: New Cinderella Adaptation by Disney
I really like what we got. One could say that we see all the major plotpoints from the movie, but then again, everyone knows the original animated version so why not highlight those scenes loved by everyone? Great marketing in my opinion.
I love how they had the mother talking through the trailer, giving some background information as to why Cinderella is so humble and kind and doesn't stand up to her stepmother. The scene in the kitchen where we see her 'break down' under all the hard work is great, it makes it that more realistic and I hope they keep that in.
The prince has amazing eyes. That bright blue for a dark haired man? Gorgeous. It resembles the blue in the dress (which has a little CGI in it, I think) but I love the dress!
One little thing: I don't like how the stepsisters seem all goofy. I hope that they are more realistic and cruel in the final cut (like the stepmom is).

The sneak peek that was shown on Good Morning America had a couple of scenes and dialogue not shown in the trailer.

Overall, I'm really excited for this film! It is visually stunning, with beautiful sets and bright costumes. I love that Disney has taken the animated movie and expanded on it. I also like that they took plot points from the Perrault story, such as the stepsisters calling her Cinderwench. The scene with Lady Tremaine holding the glass slipper was unexpected. I'm excited to see how Lady Tremaine found out Ella was the girl from the ball. Lily James, Cate Blanchett, and Helena Bonham Carter killed it in their scenes. As for the stepsisters, I like that they are not ugly, but seem to be trying too hard with their fashions and make up. In the Perrault story, he wrote that Cinderella, in her rags, was more handsome than her stepsisters, who were always lavishly dressed, and that sentiment seems to be reflected in the movie.

Re: New Cinderella Adaptation by Disney
OVERLOAD FROM A BEAUTIFUL DREAM COME TRUE!!!!
I saw the Good Morning America sneak peek and the official trailer! Everything looks soooooooooooo good! Perfect! Beyond perfect! More than...oh!
It really is the Disney 1950 film come to life re-imagined...we were right about it being the 19th century, tsom! As even costume designer Sandy Powell said.
And it turns out me, Old Fish Tale, and tsom were right, those pictures from the set in Black Park were of Cinderella's chateau. And the palace just has that similar type of architecture.
The designs, effects, and music of this film are so incredible and gorgeous! I wish the stepmother had her signature red/purple color for her costumes, but oh well, they still look incredibly good!
Lily James, Cate Blanchett, Helena Bonham Carter, Richard Madden...are all so good!
But when the stepmother finds Cinderella's glass slipper, that part made me fearful and sad! Not to mention that was one of my ideas for the musical of Disney's Cinderella I want to make, but oh well.
Sicoe Vlad, I got your e-mails but haven't had time to check them. I will soon!
I agree with a lot you said, WillytheDino. Except Cinderella may have decided to be kind on her own in the original Disney film and she did stand up to her stepfamily about being allowed to go to the ball in the original, too.
And thanks Neverland!
Toky and WonderNeverOz, if you want the glitter, gold(and silver and glass?), and magic toned down, then what do you like most about Cinderella, since all that is what I love most? I thought that stuff was part of what made Cinderella so great, both the fairy tale and the Disney 1950 animated version.

Yes I agree so much! And the stepmother asks her to call he "Madame" like in the Perrault tale (well, the stepsisters asked her to call them "Madame").tsom wrote:Overall, I'm really excited for this film! Re: New Cinderella Adaptation by Disney
The trailer was stunning, beautiful visuals, costumes, sets everything!
Lily James, Richard Madden, Cate Blanchett, Helena Bonham Carter, etc are giving good performances in the trailer and the best part about it is.... That it's not a bland repeat of the 1950 animated film, there is a lot of new stuff and I love it! Especially the scenes where the Stepmother finds the glass slipper in front of Cinderella and a new version of the scene where the Stepmother callously rips Cinderella's mother's old pink gown.
The director and writers has a jewel of a movie on their hands. I have complete faith in this movie now more than ever.
