I doubt he'll work on another film again. I suspect he's just staying busy until he can retire too. According to Steve Hulett, he's currently writing a book about WDAS.farerb wrote:What do you think Ron Clements' next project will be? It would be interesting to see how he does without John Musker.

Thank you. I had a guess he won't make more films but I wasn't sure. It really saddens me that they won't make anymore film, they contribued so much to WDAS.Sotiris wrote:I doubt he'll work on another film again. Re: Gigantic
The classical Puss in Boots is worlds apart from the Dreamworks version which is why I would have liked to have seen a more traditional take on him again. Not just the character but the general setting and story as well.unprincess wrote: they wont do Puss In Boots b/c Dreamworks pretty much owns that character already. But there's so many other classic stories they can do. Id love Tam Lin, Midsummer's Night's Dream, Red Riding Hood, Rumpelstiltskin, Ramayana or original stories with interesting cultures, mythologies and time periods not yet done. They really need to sit down and do their research, the stories are out there!
I agree that Disney has a wealth of stories that could adapt. I know they were working on Ramayana a while back but I'm not sure what happened to it. Rumpelstiltskin is one I always wanted to see done by Disney in the 90s style (I could see Don Bluth doing it as well). Tam Lin would be a great choice and it's too bad that Disney crushed that project back in the mid 2000s. Same with The Emperor's Nightingale.

I would love it if Disney did Rumpelstiltskin

In 2012 Disney was rumored to be working on a Rumpelstiltskin adaptation called "The Name Game" starring Lea Michelle but that turned out to be made-up.

Re: Gigantic
There was a project called “Uncle Stilskin “ that was optioned and slated for production in the early 2000’s but I heard that it was a difficult story to develop in regards to the main character being someone audiences could like/sympathize with. I also heard that when Shrek 15( or whichever of those damn sequels) had Rumpelstiltskin as a villain, it was nixed. Tam Lin was a pet project of Roy Disney and clashes with Eisner took care of that. I am in total agreement that the company’s output is beginning to be lackluster and unoriginal. How many remakes and sequels do we need? I have always thought Theseus, The Princess and the Pea, Hansel and Gretel would be great starting points for new productions

Hansel and Gretel all the way! And actual, classic Rumplestiltskin. And actual, classic Jack and the Beanstalk.

Im hoping with the new regime change someone will take a second look at these classic stories and come up with a new take on them that will be greenlit. There's a history of Disney films born out projects that were shelved only to be revived years(even decades) later, as Im sure you all know.

Re: Gigantic
I really wish we could have seen Tam Lin as the return to Disney's fairy tales although the CGI in the mid 2000s wouldn't have aged well. I know Disney was also planning an adaptation of Orpheus in the 90s but in the form of whales. Personally I would prefer a human adaptation since Disney has yet to do a proper Greek mythology story imo.

Re: Gigantic
I think that they are in pre-production for a musical that is a combination of Cyrano de Bergerac and Othello

Would Americans have cared for a movie set in Spain? That's what I wonder if Gigantic would've come forward. Also I would not have been surprised if people would sprung up saying how it's "anti-latino" or something, to make a Disney film set in Spain...

You give too much credit to the average American. At least the ones who voted red in the last election would want to build a wall around the beanstalk after seeing something remotely resembling Hispanic culture.thedisneyspirit wrote:Would Americans have cared for a movie set in Spain? Spain =/= Latin America though. Or are some people dumb enough to think they're all the same?
Funny, I heard somewhere that Spaniards are treated nicer in the USA than Latins due to being europeans...

I do have some Mexican friends who pretend to come from Spain because they'd rather be associated as white and European. They get endlessly criticized by other Mexican people though.

Don't see the point in involving politics in this thread (and for the record, the wall is intended for illegal immigrants).

Swap the word "sports" for "Disney" and you get my drift. There's a time and a place for politics, and an online Disney forum really isn't it.

I didn't really find it completely out of place because of the film's Spanish setting. In today's political climate that would certainly have elicited a reaction from both sides of the political spectrum and politics have come up with no problem in other discussions such as Pocahontas.

Source: https://twitter.com/stodoe/status/1138861697899253760Andrew Chesworth: I loved this version of Disney's Gigantic and where those early screenings were headed. Definitely one that tragically slipped away. Fantastic mix of modern Tangled and 1940s Sleepy Hollow-era Disney influencing the artistic conversations.
David Stodolny: And one of the songs was going to be sooooo good. I’m sad it won’t be heard.
Andrew Chesworth: I know which one you mean, little man.
David Stodolny:
Source: https://twitter.com/A_Chesworth/status/ ... 6666885120Q: How far into production was Gigantic?
Andrew Chesworth: Not much beyond story reels, vis dev, and CG character testing. There were several iterations of nearly full-length screenings, some with radical changes.
Q: Are you in a position to tell what went wrong with the production? Story issues?
Andrew Chesworth: Not in the know or the position, just someone who saw an early screening and liked where it was going. I was at TAIKO Studios while they were still making changes and announcing new leadership on the project.
Source: https://twitter.com/A_Chesworth/status/ ... 3097946112Andrew Chesworth: I remember a lot of passion about 'what would the Johnny Appleseed / Mary Blair whimsy feel like in modern CG?' That was super exciting, leaning into fairy tale cartoony and pre-Sleeping Beauty Milt Kahl.
Jessica Mahon: I definitely got that feeling from the little I saw, yeah. Imagine that in 3D, you know? Awesome.
Andrew Chesworth: There's so much charm in these environments and the Ollie Johnston animation. The ratios on Johnny are so much fun. I remember 'Gigantic' even had some of the conquistador flavor, echoing but critically commenting on the pioneer flavor of the old cartoons.

Re: Gigantic
I just saw some animation tests and scenes from Dreamworks' cancelled movies BOO and LARKINS within the last week. I hope we see some Gigantic goodies in the near future.
