Frozen gets a 3D home video release?Barbossa wrote:Its pretty sad how cheap the Diamond Editions have gotten since Snow White came out. No shiny covers, one less disc with bonus features (Grand Canyon absent from this release), cheaper plastic case, even a cheaper plastic wrap. even though I bought the Diamond Edition, I'm going to hit up pawn shops and hopefully I'll be able to stumble upon the Platinum Edition release - I do have the DVD Platinum but didn't buy the Platinum Blu-Ray as I didn't have a BR player yet. Looks like Disney is ready to wind down on physical releases. At least we just have two Diamonds to go next year (Dalmatians and Aladdin) and 4 package films (which will probably be released as two-packs) and Black Cauldron, and a new release with Big Hero 6. (oh, and to milk the cash cow, a 3D release of Frozen)

An official release hasn't been announced but I suspect that a 3D version will be released in 2015. Disney is smart and they knew that Frozen was HUGE. If they released both versions at the same time the sales wouldn't be as high. People with 3D capability will now buy the new version after forking out money for the regular version.Sicoe Vlad wrote:Frozen gets a 3D home video release?Barbossa wrote:Its pretty sad how cheap the Diamond Editions have gotten since Snow White came out. If Disney were really smart, they've should have given "Frozen" a proper release with several bonus features. But thanks to their current "lesser bonus features policy", I doubt it's going to happen.

How long do films generally stay out of the vault in the US? Is it a two year availability?

Thanks. Its not long then....Except for Cinderella. Guess Disney is trying to squeeze the last few sales out of it.gamer51 wrote:http://disney.wikia.com/wiki/Walt_Disne ... d_EditionsMeerkatKombat wrote:How long do films generally stay out of the vault in the US? Is it a two year availability?

Just wondering how long I can hold off for. I don't want to miss it and then regret it later.

Do you think they'll ditch the vault completely (like in the UK) once all the Diamonds and remaining Classics are released?

I personally could see it going that way. I guess we'll have a better idea in a year or so but the U.S. is a different market with a different set of rules. The quality of the releases has been diminishing so I don't see Disney suddenly deciding to put effort into a new premium line of BDs when they haven't really bothered with their current one.universALLove wrote:Do you think they'll ditch the vault completely (like in the UK) once all the Diamonds and remaining Classics are released?
It's a shame Disney couldn't be bothered to finish the Diamond line in Europe. Disney UK is quietly replacing previous 'Diamond Edition' banner labelled DVDs and BDs for plain ones.
The exclusive cover from Best Buy is lenticular like the old 3D Combo Pack slipcovers use to be. It's awesome
Also I bought it because it has some new bonus features that the Platinum didn't have. It's the completist in me I suppose.
I went to Best Buy because I liked the look of the slipcover but once I saw it in person I ended up going with the regular release. Even though the slipcover was different, the actual cover art on the Blu-Ray was the traditional artwork. I didn't want to have slipcover that didn't match. I am also not a fan that the Best Buy cover was a 3D sticker. I am glad I went to the store first instead of purchasing it online, or I would have been upset.

^Agreed. I personally dislike lenticular covers and was going to get a friend to preorder it and ship it to me to Australia. Thankfully I waited to check it out on eBay for the same reasons as you!

Who else but?Atlantica wrote:Good shout. Amazon ?

Although I love the Diamond cover art I cannot justify that price for a 9 minute documentary and 3 deleted scenes. I'd rather have a 75 min commentary for my money.
I've just bought a house and am in the throes of a complete remodel. Disney is about to start seeing a lot less of my money.
UPDATE: DVD turned up. Only come with a sodding slipcover.

I´m going to ask you something and please don´t get me wrong. Are you new in this of getting the releases for the Animated Classics in domestic format?
I ask because if you´re not you already experienced this when the movies started getting released as Platinum on DVD. As such, you must have known how´s Disney handling this market. So, how come this happened to you now?

It happened to me the first time by skipping Snow White since I didn´t like the movie then. When I changed my mind regarding getting all the Classics it took me forever to find it.
...and I learned.

When Blu Ray arrived I didn´t have a Blu Ray player then. Still, I decided to get all the movies regardless. Not only did I know for sure I was going to get them all, in the new format, and didn´t wan´t to loose my chance but also Disney was releasing them (with precisely the exception of Sleeping Beauty and the CGI ones) alongside the DVDs.
So, I´m wondering... why this happened to you?

Re: Sleeping Beauty Diamond Edition Blu-ray - 2014
I have a question for you all that's somewhat related!
With the Diamond Edition Blu-Ray releases of the animated classics, I've been wondering which Blu-Rays are worth upgrading from the platinum DVDs. Honestly, having them in HD over DVD quality isn't that important to me for most of the movies, unless it's an upgrade akin to the Sleeping Beauty 2003 DVD to the Blu-Ray(s). I have most of the old Platinum DVDs, so which ones presentation and bonus features-wise would you say are worth getting the blu-rays for?

Re: Sleeping Beauty Diamond Edition Blu-ray - 2014
Definitely get the Beauty and the Beast Diamond. The long documentary on that is way better than the Platinum bonus.
Im told the Snow White one has pretty in-dept. And maybe the Lion King... it has two new documentaries on it...
From what I;ve read and seen, those are the only ones worth upgrading.
