I just voted for a release. If we can get enough people to vote for it there might be a good case for releasing it.

I had the same thing for the longest time in my link for Only Yesterday. In my grassroots campaign it is now #2 for all movies on TCM without a DVD release. Vote for it here: http://www.tcmdb.com/title/title.jsp?stid=632548

Apparently it really hasn't worked, so I wouldn't be all exited for Song of the South.

Well, just checking nausicaa.net, "Only Yesterday" is part of the Ghibli/Buena Vista deal, so I would assume that "Only Yesterday" will come out with in the next year or two. Probably along side a BV release of "Princess Mononoke"

I cast my vote with the rest of you for "Song of the South". Hope we can generate enough interest for them to even show it on TCM. That would be the highest rated movie on television the day they would have it on their schedule.

A few years ago Ted Turner offered to buy Song of the South from Disney to take it off their hands but he was turned down.

Song of the South is now the most requested DVD at Amazon.com. No. 1 used to be Star Wars. So polls like this mean little to nothing.

Well I voted but 82nd really is not very impressive at all considering how few movies are not on DVD.

Also laid down votes for Only Yesterday, the African Queen, which sits at #6 and some others. So how do we find out what #1 is?

When I was at my local Best Buy store, a thought came to mind as I was browsing through the DVD's. If Movies are now being released in multiple versions (special edition, deluxe edition, unrated edition, etc.), why can't "Song Of The South" be released in it's original form & an "unoffending" version simultaneously? Before it's release, the Disney company can reach out to all those who oppose it's release & have them guide the Disney video editors to what is offensive & contribute ideas for resolving these issues.

I think that the "unoffending" version would eventually wind up being around 16 minutes long.

Because aside from the tar baby sequence, there's no real standout points of offence, it's more the "vibe" of the film that causes offence rather than any plot points. Trying to edit down Song of the South to remove all traces of offence would be like trying to edit Aladdin to remove all traces that it is set in the middle East.

I still don't see how the Tar Baby sequence is offensive. Or how the whole movie is offensive. I voted, and it was 400 before I voted (400+1=401!). At the very least, Disney should release the animated segments. Kids might just think they're stand-alone cartoon shorts, and Splash Mountain would make a heck of a lot more sense to kids, and people in general who haven't seen SOTS.

Pretty cool that TCM is taking votes for it, but I don't think it will do much good. No way will Disney sign it over to them for DVD distribution. If anyone is going to release it, it will be Disney. Signatures can never really hurt, but it's not like Disney isn't releasing this because they're worried that no one is interested in it. They know it's one of (possibly the) most desired unreleased DVD and that it could do big business if they would release it. I guess persistant insistance could go a long way, though.

That's what I wanted to say, but I looked in my DVD insert book and it was nowhere to be seen. And then I remembered it was from a TV special with Walt and some other people.

I hope they air this movie. I haven't seen it before and really want to.

I really don't see the problem. It's only offensive in the same way that Gone With The Wind could be called offensive, the only difference perhaps being that this film is aimed at kids, who may be more impressionable. Still, I find it hard to believe there's a single kid out there who would think anything beyond, "Oh, what a nice film about a bloke who knows lots of stories about a cute bunny rabbit."
