Yeah, that person is clearly a film snob who looks down on Disney while holding more serious animation in higher esteem. It was just necessary to show the context of that other "review."

Both styles can be great though. If Disney really does put out a spectacular film and achieves everything it's aiming for in recapturing the magic of some of their more classic films, then they deserve to be rewarded just as much as anyone.

I don't think The Wind Rises would stand a chance in a year with an acclaimed Pixar film and/or a year where Miyazaki fans don't feel pressed to give him one final Oscar. I'm sure it's a great film but the subject matter and what I know of the storyline don't make it seem like it'd gain a huge following otherwise.

It's too soon for all of this speculation anyway

How many nominees are allowed this year? Five, right? If that's the case, at least all three have a guarantee of being nominated.

None of us have watched Frozen or The Wind Rises. Maybe they are both shit and it is Turbo that deserves to win the Oscar.

Both would have to be pretty bad for that to happen . . . Turbo was very, very dull. My wife, daughters, sister-in-law, and niece all got up during that movie to use the restroom. And never came back.

We do not say this lightly, but Disney's Frozen is the best Walt Disney Animation Studios movie in a generation.
...Genuiney: it's by a country mile the best family movie of the year, and would sit alongside the Disney movies of the late 80s/90s with ease.

BTW: The singing Anna doll comes out today according to Stitch Kingdom's Twitter!

"In a generation"? Oh boy I'm in for something spectacular.

Oh and as for Frozen vs The Wind Rises, let Walt Disney Animation Studios have the stinkin trophy for once please! :x

And frankly, I think it's very silly to lower one's opinion of a movie just because it beat your favourite for the Oscar. Even though it beat Wreck-It Ralph and ParaNorman last year, I don't think any less of Brave which I still really like.
I agree, although it does mean I can't help seeing the film without thinking a, "What a joke..." Who am I kidding, I probably won't see Brave again for years until one day I'm dead bored and there's nothing but it playing on ABCFamily.

I won't be as disappointed to see Monsters University win this year, because I doubt I'll enjoy Frozen like I did WIR. Seeing Ghibli win over them both would be preferable (although I felt the same way about the non-Disney/Pixar film last year).

Yeah! I want to see Frozen win an Academy Award for Best Pic...uh, I mean, Best Animated Feature. And hopefully if Get A Horse gets nominated and win for Best Animated short.

The Biggest thing that is getting me hyped for this movie is it's music. I love this Let It Go song a lot. I usually don't listen to music that's not in English, but that clip has me changed on that one. I can't wait to hear the English version. I'm definitely going to be getting the deluxe CD.

I'll be posting negative opinions for a change so here we go:
Chance Huskey ‏@chancehuskey 34m
FROZEN is maybe a good film if you have a very narrow perception of what an animated film can be.

Chance Huskey ‏@chancehuskey 31m
FROZEN reeks of corporate Disney bullshittery: it is a pale pale shadow of the films of the Disney Renaissance.

Chance Huskey ‏@chancehuskey 27m
FROZEN's marketing bluster reflects its self-satisfied posturing as legacy to the "classical" Disney film. It is a cynical exercise.

Chance Huskey ‏@chancehuskey 24m
FROZEN skirts the sexual subtext of its material as much as BRAVE boldly confronted that of its own. FROZEN is facile.

He's entitled to his opinion. And presumably, he has watched the film and so knows more about it than we do. There will always be differing opinions and though it may annoy us, that is a good thing.

And why are you even getting angry at somebody giving his honest opinion on a movie you haven't seen?

I'm looking forward to Frozen, too, but everybody is free to give their opinion on the film once they've seen it, be it positive or negative.
