Agreed. It was awkwardly bad. I just rewinded through the movie to see how the animation looked. And was disappointed by how lackluster it was.Sotiris wrote:I hadn't thought of that. I really hope that's not the case. The animation in Godmothered was so bad.

I really hope she returns. She’s one of my favorite actresses ever. Plus her performance was so fun to watch.Disney Duster wrote:This is my favorite of the recent Disney news so far. Please let the animation be as beautiful as the first one had, and all the original cast, except maybe Susan Sarandon.

Re: Disenchanted
It was only a quick announcement. They didn't even bring up the director or Alan Menken's involvement. They will probably reveal other cast members soon.

Re: Disenchanted
Alan Menken retweeted the news about Disenchanted, so that pretty much confirms he's writing the music. Adam Shankman has also confirmed he's still directing it.

^ Good to know. For me, even if this movie turns out awful, at least it'll be another soundtrack to pick up.
(That's kind of how I think of the re-makes, too.)

Re: Disenchanted
I think Patrick Dempsey won't return because of his cheating scandal. The only reason why he got cast in the first place was because he was huge when Enchanted was in production thanks to his role on Grey's Anatomy but his character was killed off and he got fired from that show. When you look at his career now, he's not as as big as he used to be.UmbrellaFish wrote:I wonder why Amy Adams was mentioned and not Patrick Dempsey? Might mean something might not... if he doesn’t return, I would rather they recast him than kill him off (can you imagine Giselle grieving??? God, please no).
A cheating scandal on top of his reputation of being difficult won't help him to be back for this project, especially if he asks for the same salary (if not more) that he was granted on the first film.
Re: Disenchanted
That's exactly how I feel too. The main reason why I'm excited for this sequel is because we'll get new songs by Alan Menken. I love the songs from Enchanted and to me it would be great to get more in the same style. Plus, I'm glad Disney is finally offering Alan an original film and not a remake. I'm very happy too that Amy Adams is back or that there'll probably be traditionally animated segments and I hope the movie's good, but given Disney's track record with live-action sequels, I don't have too high hopes. And the new songs is definitely the only reason I'm glad we are getting remakes like The Little Mermaid. I usually only watch these films once; the music is the only thing about them I continue revisiting after their release.Disney's Divinity wrote:For me, even if this movie turns out awful, at least it'll be another soundtrack to pick up.(That's kind of how I think of the re-makes, too.)

It would be cool if she returned, but only if they did it well. The idea of a villainess that died returning could feel "been there, done that. Why not a new villain?"Sicoe Vlad wrote:I really hope she returns. She’s one of my favorite actresses ever. Plus her performance was so fun to watch.

I mean because we already got that villainess in the original film, so we may feel tired of her in the sequel.

Re: Disenchanted
I would usually agree with that statement but this is SUSAN SARANDON we're talking about.
She could stare at the camera for 120 minutes and I'd still dig it.

Re: Disenchanted
Susan Sarandon was the worst thing about the original to me, which was a surprise back then because she's a good actress overall. Of course, these days, I don't like her anymore, overall, although I'd tolerate her if she was in a movie or TV series I watched.

Susan Sarandon was good enough for me in the original, but I also wouldn't miss her in the sequel.

Re: Disenchanted
I agree. I love Kevin Lima's films and I always prefer it when a director comes back for the sequel. However, I've enjoyed Adam Shankman's work as well (Hairspray, in particular) and he was one of the directors attached to the original Enchanted before Lima came along, so that makes it better in my mind.D82 wrote:It's a shame they didn't ask him to direct the sequel when it seems he would've been willing to do it. If he was the director I would be much more confident it would be a good film.
I don't think that's an issue for Disney. I believe the cheating allegations were never confirmed (he denied it and the tabloid that broke the story ended up deleting the article in question), but even if they are true, it was something that happened a long time ago (2015, I think?) and the scandal didn't generate any outrage on social media or online petitions. That's what Disney cares about. Besides, if they had a problem with him they wouldn't have invited him back to appear in three episodes of the current season of Grey's Anatomy. If he doesn't end up in the sequel, which I hope is not the case, it'll be either because of story or budgetary reasons.Redadoodles wrote:I think Patrick Dempsey won't return because of his cheating scandal.
The logo looks like it was hastily put together. Hopefully, it's not the final one and we'll get something a bit more refined later on.D82 wrote:By the way, I don't think the logo has been posted. Here it is.
I like her too, but I'd hate for them to came up with some convoluted way to resurrect her just to bring back the actress. If how she's revived makes sense, I'm OK with it.Sicoe Vlad wrote:I really hope she returns. She’s one of my favorite actresses ever. Plus her performance was so fun to watch.

Re: Disenchanted
Yeah, I'd seen articles of Ellen Pompeo promoting Dempsey's return to GA. I thought it was surprising because it sounded like Shonda Rimes had a personal tiff with him. Someone mentioned a cheating scandal for Lily James, too, in another thread. I don't think most companies or professions care about what you do in your personal life if that's referring to something related to adultery? Unless it had to do with someone at work or power dynamics, I don't it would have repercussions on someone's career. I remember a lot of to-do over Ewan McGregor cheating on his wife, too, but he still gets roles. Usually what goes down in a personal relationship isn't going to affect anything unless there are claims of abuse.

I didn't know he was considered for the original film. I prefer when the original director comes back for the sequel too, but I agree Adam Shankman is not a bad choice either. I hope he does a good job.Sotiris wrote:I love Kevin Lima's films and I always prefer it when a director comes back for the sequel. That was my impression as well. It's probably not the final logo. I also hope they do a better one.Sotiris wrote:The logo looks like it was hastily put together. Hopefully, it's not the final one and we'll get something a bit more refined later on.
Regarding Susan Sarandon, I don't think it's essential to bring her back. If there's a villain in the sequel, I wouldn't mind if it was a new one. I think someone here mentioned long ago that there could be a twist villain this time to parody the fact that Disney has used that trope so much lately. I think it could be cool if they did that (as long as it fitted the story).
Re: Disenchanted
IMO, cheating is at the very bottom of the problematic behavior totem pole. I wouldn't be happy if my partner cheated on me, but I feel like if we were to punish every celebrity who has had an extramarital affair, that would affect far too many. I do think that domestic abuse and sexual assault are far more damaging, anyway.

I wouldn't mind a new villain either. I have mixed feelings on having a twist villain though. On the one hand, satirizing Disney and Pixar's twist villain trope would be fitting and fun, on the other having a twist villain, even for the purposes of parody, would deprive us of a satisfying and well-rounded character.D82 wrote:Regarding Susan Sarandon, I don't think it's essential to bring her back. I really hope they don't bring her back. I don't want another "climax" where she says awful final boss level one liners.
