I didn't like the first sequel, hopefully the second sequel will redeem it.

It might just be me, but I thought the original was untouchable.

I don't get why everyone is so caught up with that trailer... nothing... happens.
Were all entitled to our own opinions but....

THIS POST DOESNT MAKE SENSE

Im interested to know why u didnt like TS2?

It was an original idea whith the same characters who stayed true to who they were in the first film. They continued the story in a way that was respectful to the original and it was just a plain good movie. These qualities are what make a amazing sequel. I personally enjoy 2 more than the 1st and feel its probs the best sequel ever made.

Im "caught up with that trailer" because this is the first time Ive seen any new animation of some of my favourite characters in 10 years.

It's a teaser. And a teaser from Pixar. They usually don't tell anything about the story.
And of course, TS2 was one of the rare sequels that was equal to (or better than) the original. Since there are even less Part 3's than Part 2's that are any good, a lot of us are curious if Pixar can pull it off again. I really hope it does.

I only seem to recall ratatouille's teaser trailer, but in those few seconds remi blurted out pretty much all we needed. The trailer was no better than a poster with the release date. Sure, it was nice to watch, but it wasn't fascinating like everyone is making it out to be... imo.

People have got to realize how much someone 'likes' something isn't proportional to it's quality. Leonardo da Vinci might have been the greatest artist of all time, but it doesn't mean he's everyones favourite artist. Some low-budget low quality films might look terrible from the publics eye, but that doesn't stop some individuals from adoring them.

The reason why I didn't like Toy Story 2 was because it was too ambitious. For some, that might've been a good thing. But for me, it just meant more characters, more settings, more background storyline, less emotion. The thrill and fear of Sid's dog Buster (was that his name?), the frustration of Woody when all his friends wouldn't believe him, Lightyear's tragic anagnorisis and the wonderment of planet pizza. That's what I call substance, and thats what I'd like to see in films.

It doesn't mean I thought the film was bad or that they could've done a better job. By the end of the first film, they had reached a level where all they could do is get bigger and that's what they did. In a way, it's like Snow White and Pinocchio. Snow White had emotion, Pinocchio did everything bigger but somehow lost that emotion. Except in that case I preferred Pinocchio

If he didnt like the first sequel, I'd say there's no hope for him likeing Toy Story 3. Toy story 2 is so much better than the first. not to put the first down, but toy delt with much deeper themes. the 3rd can only continue that trend.

i agree, i prefer the second movie over the first too. Toy Story (the first) is good and of course i like the characters a lot, but Toy Story 2 is so much more fun imo, hope Toy Story 3 will be more like the second one.

Well if it deals with the idea of "what happens to toys when their owners grow up", it'll probably be a good mixture both of its predecessors.

wasnt quite sure if I should post this here, another thread, or make a new topic, but I'll go ahead and put it here.

Thinkway's toy Story line, called the "Toy Story Collection" has veen revealed, and holy crap is it awesome.

we have the awesome 12 inch buzz.

15 inch woody.
http://www.disneystore.com/action-figur ... 475/11798/

RC

Rex
http://www.disneystore.com/action-figur ... 481/11798/

All of these are about 65 dollars.

Im confused though: we also have these
http://dcp.smugmug.com/gallery/2730334_ ... 2995_2wMvB
which are listed as being about 35. thats a pretty big price difference.
are these cheaper versions of the same toys I already posted? or are they exactly the same, with an updated price point?

if its the same, where does the Ultimate Buzz come in?
http://pixarplanet.com/blog/ultimate-bu ... -toy-story

Are all these the same buzz's?

all I really want is to know that the Buzz I buy will be in scale with Woody and RC.

Regardless, this toy line is going to be awesome.

Lee unkrich on the look of Toy Story 3.
http://www.hitfix.com/blogs/2008-12-6-m ... table-four

We couldn't make a "3" that looked completely different than the first two; however, as a studio and both technologically and artistically, we've made great strides over the last fifteen years. I mean, you look at "Ratatouille," it's just a gorgeous, gorgeous film. And so you want to take advantage of that, but at the same time, you want the world to feel familiar, so that was one of our big challenges at the beginning, working... luckily I had Bob Pauley who was the original production designer for the first "Toy Story". He designed Buzz Lightyear. He's my production designer on this film. We all worked very hard to have the world... and it's a constant challenge to have the world feel familiar, but to take advantage of what we can do now artistically. So if you look at "Toy Story" and then "Toy Story 2," there was a big leap in the look of the film. You know, just to be geeky, we were able to use depth of fields, which is something we couldn't do on the first film at all. Suddenly we could use focus and depth to augment our visuals. We've made even more exponential leaps doing "3". We had to rebuild everything. It's not like these characters were sitting on a disk somewhere waiting to be used again. We had to rebuild them completely from scratch, and along the way we were able to give them more sophistication in their look and in their controls. But the other thing is that the animators at our studio have gotten... they're just phenomenally talented. They've gotten so much better than they were on the earlier films. But I have to restrain them because Woody needs to behave like Woody. Buzz needs to behave like Buzz. I can't have them suddenly feel like a little human, you know, come alive. So it's a... yeah, it's a constant battle. It's a fun challenge to have it feel like "Toy Story." but have it look really kick-ass.

Theres some other nifty stuff to read, but the the thing that stuck out to me is the remodeled the characters from scratch.

also, lookie what I got.

Wow! I really have to know: Is Woody's hat made of polyvinyl? (As Al states in Toy Story 2.) Or is it plastic again?

Buzz's wings and Woody's hair both finally look like the movie version! Although Buzz's wings are shorter than the movies, I don't think it could ever be THAT long!

well I'm not even really sure what poly vynl is, but It feels like a really soft plastic (much more so than the previous versions of him). Its very bendy. Regardless of what its made of though, its a really nice hat. it even has the spiral stitching which has always been absent from older versions. (they usually just make it part of the plastic mold)

I agree about the wings, I think its physically impossible to make them that long and still fold in. but they are longer than other buzz's and they do fold in propery (downward) so this is probably as good as it gets.

Wow, awesome pics, man! They were kinda funny, actually.

I also enjoyed reading the interview. I think the Pink teddy was from the first TS.

Also, they just updated the official toy story site! check the character section, they have high res renders/wallpapers up.

Ive waited so long for nice high quality pics like these.

Edit: oh, and no the bear is not from the first toy story. they look nothing alike, aside from being a pink bear.

I didn't notice until someone pointed out Bo Peep is nowhere to be seen in the trailer nor the updated website. Annie Potts isn't credited for Toy Story 3 either! Surely they wrote Bo Peep into the plot?

Yeah, even when someone asked about her, returning Lee said he couldn't say. Maybe she'll be part of a twist or something. But yeah it wouldn't be the same without her.
