The Prince is not very important? I disagree, waking Snow White from her sleep was probably one of the most important parts in the film, without it there would be no happy ending and the only person who could do this was the Prince. He's important just not well developed or explored imo.

Yes, that's true, but it's his only task. He's only there to wake her up at the end. In 99% of the film, he's not important, as he's not even present. The core of the film is the relation between Snow White and the Dwarfs. That's much more important than her relation to some vague prince-figure.

This is what I mean when I say he's underdeveloped as a character, we don't see enough of him to get an idea of who he is or why he's motivated to do the things he does. Just because the core relation might be about Snow White and the dwarfs doesnt' mean the other characters can't be expanded upon The scene with the Prince and Queen would have been a nice addition to the final product since it would have expanded on both characters most likely. Walt may not have put it in because it slowed down the film? But the films already rather slow and it would have been a nice change of pace to see someone elses POV.

Plus, more in-depth with the other decades would be good (they never mentioned the package films in the 1940s section, or the live action/animation combo films). What do you want to see?

Honestly, more than what they put on the previous DVD, at best. At worst, the same stuff.

Thought I've never played the Dopey's Wild Mine Ride (proper title?) I wouldn't mind if that was converted to some sort of virtual roller coaster type ride. Or even a ride through of Snow White's Scary Adventure (proper title) like they did with Sleeping Beauty and Little Mermaid platinums. While they may not have been informative like Commentary tracks or a Documentary they are rather fun for those of us who can't make it to to the theme parks to actually ride them ourselves and experience it in that way.

Also, it would be neat to see still pictures of the characters in the theme parks. Not with random guests or anything but with the helpers they have? Or even of them during different parades and shows etc. Not just for Snow White but for any dvd release would be good.

Also I'd like to see a more in depth look at the voice talent. Maybe more footage of Adriana Caselotti (if it exists) from her various appearances on TV and at Disneyland.

There's one in Paris, that's the only SW ride I've been on actually, HKDL doesn't have one sadly.

If they ever decide to do that, then I'm pretty sure that they'd use the ride from Magic Kingdom as referance, not only is it the longest one, but it's closing down in the near future in favor of a BATB dark ride.

I don't want to see another "Disney Channel Star" singing a classic Disney Song. They can keep the Barbara Streisand version from the 2001 DVD or they can have Celine Dion or Bette Midler sing it. But please, I don't want to see a Disney Channel Star singing it!


They should keep all the features from the previous one. I am NOT double dipping on it cause I was lucky enough to get a new copy of the PE of SW when it was still in print.

I would love to see this as well! Although I hope instead of just talking about the current versions, they would go in depth about the old incarnations of Snow White's Scary Adventures. I would love to see a recreation of the original 71-94 version of Disney World's, which had the demon shadow in the dwarfs cottage, and the climax in the mines where the witch pushed timbers down towards you and finally crushed you at the end with a huge diamond.

The first Platinum Edition was perfect...I can't think of anymore to add to be honest. Perhaps a look at how Snow White relates to today's audiences? The Blu Ray restoration documentary as well as the 7.1 surround sound look.

...really it was jammed pack, and I don't even like the movie too much.

Sounds perfect to me. I don't even want a new making-of, though they'll probably do a new one. The old one just needs chapter stops and it's perfect.

I'd like to see a more indepth retrospective on the voice talents as well.

I'd also like to see one of those features where they edit a scene with pieces of dialog from all the many languages the film was dubbed into.

Another cool bonus would be to include the complete original 1938 broadcast of the Lux Radio Theatre's live radio adaptation of "Snow White" which includes Walt as a guest and features most of the original film cast.

I didn't actually see Snow White the film until its VHS release in 1994, and until then, this was the version I grew up with.

Oooo ooo ooooo this gets my vote too! I would love to see a feature of how to fit the film to go on stage here and when it did at Disneyland. I got the chance to see it at Disneyland when I went for the 50th Anniversary. I loved it on stage, and was really sad to hear it went away.

I get your point. It's true he's underdeveloped. But my point was, he doesn't need to be more developed. In the story Walt Disney is telling, what's important is Snow White's relationship with the Dwarfs. The prince is just there to wake her up at the end. He isn't needed for the essence of the story. Developing him more would only damage the story Disney was trying to tell. That's why I think he was such a good storyteller: he always knew what to cut out in order to make an engaging picture.

Also, I can see what he means by a gimmicky movie. Back then this was a huge thing it drew audiences in. It was known as Walts Folly, and was probably seen as a gimmick at first just a way to get peoples attention on his companies shorts (which weren't bringing in enough money if I recall) but then they genuinely liked it and saw it as more than that.

But it’s not like Disney made the film to be a gimmick. They made the film because they wanted to try something new in animation. It was an artistic expression much more than a gimmick. (And I started reading from where I left off last time, and Goliath pretty much summed up how I feel…)

But this is true for all of Disney's Prince/Princess-relationships (save for Belle and the Beast). Why did Cinderella and Prince Charming fall for each other? Why did Aurora and Prince Philip fall in love? What made Ariel like Prince Erik the first time she laid eyes on him? It's all very superficial, if you think about it. But it's not the most important aspect of the film. The Prince is not very important.

Part of me feels this way, but also, we don’t see every second of the characters’ lives, and we don’t always know exactly how they’re feeling. And, it’s human nature to sometimes initially be interested in a person based on their looks- it sometimes is what makes you want to get to know a person more.

So I'd back off on the idea that Snow White is some quaint curio nostalgia piece. There is much for modern audiences to enjoy, just as audiences of all ages have enjoyed the film, every decade over the last 70 years.

I completely agree. Not everyone will like every film ever made, but those of us who like Snow White like the story (and the animation and the music…).

Here are the two covers, the old and the new one:

Sorry I'm so late with this news, I've been off the boards for several months, and when I came back last week, I could not find the cover art! I checked both the main site, and throughout the forum, ugh. I went crazy. lol But when I saw it, I was completely amazed- this looks beautiful! SO much better than the first cover. Comparing it to the initial release's cover:

1) It's weighted down much nicer- the initial had SW and the dwarfs all leaning, if you will, on the right side, while the Queen and her box were on the left. In this one, Snow and the Queen are centered, and the dwarfs are evened out by Prince Charming and his horse

2) Prince Charming and the magic mirror- while minor characters, are included in it (I don't count the circular thing that the title is in in the initial the mirror, it looks more like a design than a mirror)

3) The Queen hangs above the title and now even the mirror, as I always adored on the VHS cover

4) That bright glow shining off of the mirror looks amazing, and IMO, really emphasizes the idea that this really was "the one that started it all"

5) There's actually scenery/a background in this one- the original was just an almost solid purple-blue color. This one has the castle and the forest

6) I really like how Dopey and Grumpy are placed at the top and bottom of the dwarfs, since I feel like they are the most memorable and recognizable of the seven, and should stand out more

7) Snow White looks gorgeous. Glamorous, glowing and the fairest of them all. I love how it's almost a full body shot, rather than just a face (facial? )- plus, there's nothing on her chin. I learned a long time ago that you're never supposed to place things or cut off chins, which is what they did on the initial's cover

But as beautiful as this cover is, there's still a few things I don't really like:

1) Snow White's face seems just a little off-model, and the fingers on her left hand (the one holding her dress) look melted together

2) The text looks really awkward and out of place, especially the "Platinum Edition". Usually there's something to hold the text in (as evident in the initial release's cover), but this one looks empty and... naked. lol I also don't like that "Snow White" is in lower case letters, I think it looks much nicer with all-caps, like in the initial's cover.

3) The Queen looks a little weird. I think it's mainly her pose. I think someone said earlier she looks a little like a zombie catwoman or something, and she totally does. lol I think it's her nails which seem far too long, and her eyebrows, which make her look weird and like a cat... lol

4) A lot of things look really badly blended together. I originally thought that the mirror was cut out and above everything else, but after several other looks, I see now that the mirror is flattened onto the wall, and the background and other elements (such as Prince Charming and the Queen) are just blended in, which IMO looks really bad. Mainly on the horse's leg.

5) I also recall reading that someone thought it looked like Snow White was stepping out of a time machine... lol it does.

However, those are mostly just personal preferences, and as a whole, I still think this cover looks absolutely amazing. Beautiful. I love it!

Any release on additional special features?

"Floating Head" is the term used for the consistent designs of current PE's in which the main protagonists' heads are larger than life and above the title box. Even with Pinocchio, When the full body is shown, His head is massive and placed accordingly.
