You lucky-arse, BB! I live in Connecticut, and the only GameStop that has it is in New Jersey. I'm not sure if they'd be able to transfer, would they?

The best thing you can do is ASK! I've had some tell me that they don't do transfers, and others that were perfectly ok with doing it if the store recieving it would be ok with it.

And by the way, I would call them ASAP to be sure they still have it. You know how quickly Disney DVD's can sell in Gamestop!

And again, GOOD LUCK!!

WDT: Rarites- Buy Now??

Post by brotherbear »

Hey guys-

I've been thinking for a while about the end of the Walt Disney Treasures line, and I think I should try to pick up the Treasures that I need ASAP.

Thankfully, I only need four more to make myself very happy:

Silly Symphonies Vol. 1
On the Front Lines
Behind the Scenes at the Walt Disney Studio
Disney Rarities

But, as many of you know, two out of the four are almost impossible to find, so I'm going to wait a little bit long to get SS 1 and Behind the Scenes. That is, until I get more money to purchase authentic copies online (or, if it were ever possible, where I live but I highly doubt it). So, that leaves Rarities and On the Front Lines. (I actually have Escapay to thank for my new obsession in a search for On the Front Lines...I didn't even know that set existed until he mentioned it! ). If a copy of On the Front Lines were present at ANY store nearby, I would pick it up, without even looking at the price. (Or, I would pay up to $35 for it new). But, alas, there are absolutely NO copies of OTFL anywhere near me. :(

Anyway, the FYE store at our mall has one copy of Rarities. Our Best Buy (and all BB stores around us) have not had a copy of Rarities for months. I have also checked other stores around me, but apparently the only places that sell Treasures (OTHER than the new releases) is Best Buy and FYE. I actually saw the copy of Rarites at FYE has the last time I went to the mall, and the tin is flawless. One problem: its price is the SRP, or $32.99. So, my question to you is, is the Rarities set worth $33+ (with tax)?? I have read many complaints on the set as far as restoration and such. What is your opinion on the Rarites set? AND, does anyone know anywhere that might have a copy of On the Front Lines?? Will a collector's convention have one? (I remember dvdjunkie refering to those as a place to get rare disney DVD's, but I'm not sure if they would have Treasures...)
If I do decide to pick up Rarities, I'm thinking I should pick it up this weekend...Please help!

Unfortunately, the picture quality/restoration work on a few of the later Treasures, including Rarities, was not quite up to the high level we'd come to expect. All of them are still very worthwhile, though, in my opinion. As for prices, I cannot see that you've mentioned any numbers yet that I'd for one moment consider too high a price - I think these sets are very reasonable considering what you get.

It depends where you're located, I guess... but last I checked there were still a 1 or 2 Behind the Scenes tins floating around in a couple stores in my city (though that was during the summer, so they may be gone by now).

Oh, yes, definitely get it, regardless of video quality. I don't look at video quality as what makes the entertainment, though it is a nice perk.

Amazon.ca still has a couple of On the Front Lines, and at very good price, too! I just got an email telling me it was shipped, so they do have it. I am not sure they ship to USA, but I don't see why not, and it's worth checking anyway.

Good luck! And remember, no business with that nmt514 fellow! ;)

All four of the Treasures you mentioned are well worth buying.

Both of the later tins are available from the Disney Movie Club. They even had the other two available two months ago. I know Goofy and Mickey Mouse in Color vol 1 are sold out but I don't know about the other two. You'd have to call after becoming a member to find out.

I know that I was able to find quite a few of the Treasures I needed on Ebay and I wasn't ever taken or disappointed. Check feedback and make sure it's someone in the US. If you use paypal you can file a claim if something goes wrong and they will almost always pay you back. Also, don't forget to check out the trade section. Someone may have what you are looking for. You can also post your wants and someone may respond. That's how I got my Goofy Treasure.

I wish you well in your search.

Have any of you bought the treasures at the online Disney Store? Do the tins get to you in damage free condition?

Ok so far I managed to acquire Mickey Mouse in B & W vol.1 from ebay. It's sealed and dent free. Sent in payment just waiting for person to recieve it and send me my set. Now I need Mickey Mouse in B & W vol. 2 and the Living color ones. And ofcourse two of the hardest to get at a decent price Silly Symphonies and Complete Goofy. Hey if I managed to get the Mickey Mouse one it shouldn't be too hard to get the rest. Plus I'm extremely patient, I don't mind waiting aslong as I save money and recieve quality dvd's with no flaws. I have a lot of catching up to do. I managed to catch up in my Platinum Collection, I think I can manage here aswell. It's so much money! The Treasures, Disney Legacy :o , it's quite a fortune for me. I can't buy myself two copies of the Platinums anymore, it's just too much $.

I'd say the absolute hardest to find (assuming you want the tin version, sealed and dent-free) is Mickey Mouse in Living Colour vol. 1. I only started buying Treasures after Wave 3 came out, and this was the one I paid the most for. I got mine around April '05... it was sealed/dent-free and I paid $81.29 USD for it, after shipping... which wasn't even that high a price for it, at that time.

Looking on eBay as I'm typing this response, I can only see a total of one sealed tin, with the bids starting at $69.99... and the tin isn't *quite* perfect (though it's only a minor ding or two). Unfortunately, the auction isn't "Buy It Now", so there's no guarantee you'd get it for the base $70 price. The auction I got mine from was Buy It Now (at $74.95), although I don't suppose anyone would list MMiLC v1 with a Buy It Now option thesedays. I can't speak for the reliability of the seller; never dealt with him... 99.9% positive feedback, though. There are 2 or 3 sealed non-tin editions from other sellers for slightly cheaper.

Before I bid I ask the seller if the tin is dent free, then I ask for insurance (just in case). Then I politely ask if they would be nice enough to package it well to prevent the set from getting damaged on it's way to me. You know like put in a box wrapped with bubble paper, so far the person I bought Mickey Mouse in B & W has been nice enough to go through all the trouble. You never know sometimes you get lucky and win for low prices. I once won a Snow White dvd sealed for $9.99.

Hey guys, here's an update on my Treasure situation!

I'm planning on getting the Rarities set tommorow or Sunday. I went and looked at it last weekend (hesitated gettting it because I was with a friend, and he's the kind of person that would never let me live down the fact that I would pay $33 for "Disney cartoons"). But, despite that, I did look at it, and the tin is perfect (no dents) and it's the one and only in the store. (And in my town, for that matter). And being that this is at a FYE store located in our mall, and our mall happens to have a gamestop, I'm going to be stopping off there. Last time they had a DVD of Anastasia (the animated version, "Family Fun Ed."/ 2-Disk SE) for only $5-$7. So I'll pick that up if it's still there.

AND, (the BIG news). I found out that Gamestop.com has a listing online for On the Front Lines!!! (Listed as "Walt Disney on the Front Lines"). There's only 1 store that has a copy within 200 miles of where I live, but it's out of my state, and also out of our district (as the managers put it). But, there is a manager of another store that is willing to do it. I'm just waiting on the approval from the manager SENDING the WDT:On the Front Lines DVD. AND, what's even more exciting is that it seems to be in pristine condition (some light surface scratches on disks, but otherwise it is complete with the tin (no dents! only a "small pinhole-sized" dent/mark) and all inserts and the case is in good shape). The only problem is that this store I'm having the DVD transfered to is about a 30 minute drive from my house (maybe even a 35 minute drive). You might ask, what's the problem with that? Well, the problem is that this store is kind of located in the boonies compared to the area I live in. So, my parents and I never really go to this town, and I will have to find some excuse to go out there. And if we do, I doubt my parents will want to go to Gamestop. But, who knows. I may find some way...

Well, so far I'm having a good day! :D :D :D

My friends still tease me about the $65 I spent on Supergirl, but that's another story. Still, you shouldn't care what your friend says. You could always say, "Why didn't you stop me, then? You secretly want them for yourself, you know you do!" in a teasing sort of way. Give him a taste of his own medicine. :D

Plus, once OTFL comes in, show him "Der Fuehrer's Face". I used to be the butt of Disney jokes among my circle of friends, but when I showed them the propoganda shorts from OTFL, they found a new respect for Disney and have laid off of the jokes. Apparently they now believe Disney has balls since he did war cartoons that included a highly effeminate version of Hitler. :P

Next time I catch him at FYE and I'm planning on buying a Disney DVD, I just might do that! :D Actually, a lot of my friends don't make fun of my love for everything Disney. A few of my friends actually think it's really cool to have several soundtracks to various Disney movies on my iPod (Like the whole CD's for The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Fantasia, and Aladdin). As far as Disney goes, my high school is pretty accepting, which is sort of unusual. Heck, this year our themes for each of the classes were Disney movies! (Seniors = Aladdin! Oh yeah!) I also know people who aren't Disney collectors or anything (as far as I know) and bought The Little Mermaid PE, or asked for it for xmas. Oh, there are so many examples of my apparently "Disney Loving" high school...(one of my favorites: Singing Disney songs on my bus (when I rode it a year or 2 ago) and our buses theme song being "We Are One" - The Lion King II)  So, I guess I'm lucky as far as the high school that I'm in. :D

Ok, I promise that my off-topic rant is over. :) But (despite how my friend is generally accepting of my love of Disney), I think showing him some of the shorts from On the Front Lines might intrigue his interest as well as give him a greater respect for Disney shorts...who knows. I might even create a fellow Disney Collector!

Oh, I forgot to mention the most amazing fact about getting (hopefully!) On the Front Lines at Gamestop: the price. It's listed (and the price of the one I'm getting) is only $12.99!!!!! :o I wish they would get Silly Symphonies Vol. 1 in for that price! I would just about fall over!

One of the GameStop stores I was in today had four WDT's for $15.99 each. None were sealed, but they all had all of the inserts and certificates of authenticity of the number and such. They were "Davy Crockett", "The Complete Pluto Vol. 1", "The Complete Pluto Vol. 2", and "Silly Symphonies Vol. 2". And they were all in their pristine tins. So they are now in my possession.

So, I thought I'd update you guys.

Well, going on a month after I started this topic, I FINALLY picked up WDT: Rarities. And, for some reason, the price was lower than the advertised $32.99. It turned out to be $29.99. Which was fine for me. I'm actually watching it now, as I type. I must admit, the Alice comidies are really unique. (Those are the only one's I've watched so far, although I've watched Lambert: The Sheepish Lion before). But I do agree with most of you; the restoration could have been a lot better, even when I compare it to Silly Symphonies Vol. II. Overall, my only major complaint is that the DVD was sitting on the shelf so long that the security stickers around the sides were SOOO sticky that it was like super glue. It took a lot of man power to get those suckers off! And there's still sticky residue on the tin! But that's ok. That's what Goo-Be-Gone is for, right?

So, next Treasure on the list for me is going to be On the Front Lines. It arrived in the store on thursday, it's just a matter of getting there. Hopefully I can get it next weekend, (I am SO excited about it!) but of course there are no absolutions. Not with my family, anyway. :P

It's not because of that, i got mine the day it came out and way just like that.
Anyway hope you enjoy the rest of the set :)
