The Tangled world known as Rapunzel part 4
It's still yet to be determined if this marketing strategy will ultimately pay off.skyler888 wrote:Kraken Guard just... don't even start. We have all heard the complaints, we all know that it's just the marketing that makes it look "Shrek-ish" and that the movie is a tried and true Disney fairy tale musical and that it is getting amazing feed back.
Which I hope it will, because Disney has been known to succeed when the odds were against them. But what if the film doesn't succeed? Or "underperforms"? Are the artists who worked so hard on this film going to be scapegoated for boneheaded marketing?
I don't want Disney doing a poor imitation of another studio that some may not be interested in, just to condescend to a particular demographic. They need to learn to lead, not follow.

Why would Mother Gothel give Rapunzel a book on Geography...when she's locked in a tower? And wouldn't a book like that make her want to leave? Or is it a way of satisfying Rapunzel of what the outside world is like, so she doesn't need to leave? Because I still think it would show Rapunzel all the places in the world and make her want to leave anymore. I don't think the book makes sense for Gothel to give her.
And actually, a lot of this reminds me of The Truman Show!

WHAT? How does that make sense?janesjubilee wrote:Mother Gothel would want Rapunzel to feel like she needs to leave, so she treats Rapunzel like a little girl.

I don't think she is "childish" but rather "child-like". There is a big difference. Childish implies a lot of negative behavior while child-like would refer to her lack of knowledge and her excitement about the world. She might not know what is going on, she might be a little clueless, but that doesn't make her "childish".Tangled wrote:New at the boards and somehow grabbed the name "Tangled" Anyways, is it just me, or does Rapunzel seem like the most childish Disney princess?
As for the things Gothel gets her. I assumed maybe she would tie them in Rapunzel's hair and it would get lifted up? At least the smaller items.
One complaint about the way Rapunzel's hair is being held by Flynn. There is no way real hair would bunch in all those perfect tight and smooth coils. It would end up more fluffy or at least less obviously perfect. Yes, I know this is a fantasy. I'm just being picky.
I love how her hair "floofs" when it hits Flynn at the bottom of the tower.
I, sadly, agree that Rapunzel does not look good in the princess line up. She looks great added in when they draw 2D art of her, but not if they add real stills from the movie.

OK. Now that clip really raised my hopes for this a lot more than even the Mother Gothel clip. It seems like the comedy they're going for is more Princess Bride-style comedy which is a pretty good thing as the contemporary humor in that movie helped the story rather than distracted from it.
BTW, anyone else find it cute when she's talking through her top teeth? Liked the vocal performance Mandy did on that one.

Here is a video clip that some of us saw before, from Disney's, "Rapunzel (Tangled)," by DisneyAnimation on Youtube.

Telling her how the lanterns are just stars is kind of an example of treating Rapunzel like a child. Basically, lying to her because Gothel thinks Rapunzel is kind of stupid like some kids >_>Disney Duster wrote:Why would Mother Gothel give Rapunzel a book on Geography...when she's locked in a tower? The main reason Gothel tells Rapunzel not to leave is because she tells Rapunzel that people want to cut her hair and take away the magic from her hair, which scares Rapunzel into staying.
Well no wonder she doesn't look good in that line-up, they picked one of the worst pictures of her possible....
Anyway, I saw Megamind today---it was cute! I don't believe that people have to choose between Disney & Dreamworks...apples and oranges, y'all. Tangled has nothing to fear from this movie. The humor, animation quality, everything is completely different: Tangled is by FAR the superior film, in case anyone was in doubt (was anyone? Don't think so
)
And to prove it--the kids in the audience laughed harder at the Tangled trailer (P!nk version) than they did during most of Megamind (which I feel was geared more towards adults than children).
