Re: Merida to Join the Disney Princess Line
If Disney is trying to appeal to the feminist crowd with the princess line they already had characters they could use. Pocahontas doesn't end up with her man in the film and it's her decision not to. And Mulan is the warrior "princess" who saves her whole country. They didn't need Merida.

Yeah this would make sense and agree with you and everything, you're right. But Disney Feminists are .... not that smart as proven by the video.Jay wrote:If Disney is trying to appeal to the feminist crowd with the princess line they already had characters they could use. I think people do forget sometimes that these stories are based on fairy tales; all stepmothers are monsters, fathers are weak and stupid, women need to be rescued.
Any life that has been injected into these girls is Disney's doing alone, the template they had to work on was barebones to say the least.

Most of that video is just flat out wrong anyway, especially their "evidence" from Mulan. Acting like "Honor to Us All" is giving a bad message to girls when the whole point of the movie was that Mulan became a hero by defying those ridiculous societal norms

I have never used Tumblr...is this what it is like ?
Re: Merida to Join the Disney Princess Line
Tumblr or not, there is something really wrong with their thought process. Something that stood out to me, beside all the gender normative nonsense they babbled about, was one of the girls' comment about how she has never identified with any of the Disney heroines because none of them were black and overweight. Um, shouldn't people's preference for fictional characters be based on something other than looks alone? I'm not a lanky Asian girl from 400 AD, but I identify with Mulan just fine, for I too am socially awkward and have issues with conforming to societal roles which contrast with my strong sense of familial obligations. Similarly, I'm not a scaly humanoid turtle living in the sewers of New York, but Donatello was always my favorite because I could relate to his role within his group of friends: quiet, introspective, nerdy. I somewhat look like Harry Potter, but Hermione was my literary doppelganger. If your only way of identifying with anyone, let alone fictional characters, is for that character/person to be an [animated] carbon copy/clone of your physical self, you have bigger issues to worry about. I guess it's one of the reasons why we often have to suffer through those endless "when will Disney make an Italian/Eskimo/Neptunian princess" topics.

You post pictures ! From your favorite shows, movies or clothes, shoes, video games, anime, Disney and such !atlanticaunderthesea wrote:I have never used Tumblr...is this what it is like ?
I found this one for a example
http://thedisneyprincess.tumblr.com/
It's a fun place but it's filled with porn and hentai which is anime/ Japanese porn. You'll need to download a blacklist to stop all the dirty pictures from showing up. And yes if you're thinking of a character right now and wondering if there is porn of him/ her the answer is yes.
It's not safe for work or around family/ friends just in case.

Re: Merida to Join the Disney Princess Line
Tumblr feminism has this real aggresive answer to everything. They care more about the princess' looks than their personalities...That, and they just love the fucking princesses too much. I'm not a big fan of the princess aspect of Disney (much more of a fan of the Fab Six), and once I confessed that Disney feminists called me a mysoginist for desiring "female erasure" on Disney.
After that I came to loath the Disney part of Tumblr for only sticking up the princesses' asses.

Disney has redesigned Merida again because of the controversy. She now has a CG face but 2D hair. She looks awful.

Awww Sotiris.
I actually think she's kinda cute. Rapunzel has a few hybrid incarnations like that as well, doesn't she? Plus no sparkles and eyeliner. At least she looks like Merida unlike most of the newly redesigned princesses.

Re: Merida to Join the Disney Princess Line
What's the point of giving her 2D hair when they're basically using a CG clip-art? It's off-putting and unappealing.disneyprincess11 wrote:I think she looks great.
