As for James Franco, I thought he was the weak link in the movie, which is bad b/c it rests on his shoulders. I do think this script was tailor-made for RDJ, and thought he would have pulled it off better than Franco.
I'd have to see the script before I were to agree that RDJ would of been better cast as Oz.

I'm guessing that this is fan-made since it's too early for a sequel's poster, but man, this is so beautiful...
It IS an amazing poster, fanmade or not. However, if there are magic shoes in the sequel (presuming the sequel is basically The Wonderful Wizard of Oz), I don't think they'd be ruby, since stupid Warner Bros. might sue Disney because the former owns the rights to The Wizard of Oz (1939) movie.

Oh yeah it's a wonderful poster!

I did think that Franco has the sleazy quality down pat, but he did need to be more for such a protagonist.

I ultimately enjoyed the film as much as i expected to, which was fairly well.

I don't think the sequel will be The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. In a interview somewhere it says that they have no plans to remake the movie and that the next movies will take place from now and the 20 years until Dorothy comes.

The problem is that you can't do much with the Wizard in a sequel seeing as they wrote themselves in a corner with "Oz faked his physical death and is hiding that secret from almost everyone".

My local Marcus theater has Oz 2D on their "discount Wed/Thurs" list already. I could go see it again in 2D for $5 tomorrow or Thursday night. I was surprised to see it on the list this fast. Two of my kids still haven't seen it, I'm weighing whether to go boost the box office numbers again for this movie or not. I've already seen it twice. 8) :P
FYI - I find these coupons only on Facebook. If you haven't "liked" your local theater on Facebook yet, I've totally gotten benefit from it.

I saw the movie the last week and i loved it,i have to admit that they have created a wonderful world of Oz. At the beginning i though that this movie would be like Burton's Alice but i couldn't be more wrong, in my opinion this movie has a lot of things that Alice doesn't has, the characters are sweet and unforgetable and the history is much elaborate than Alice's

I strongly agree with this.

I'm still wondering about the ruby ring the wicked witch had on her finger.
It's just so interesting how she WEARS red all the time...
with both of her outfits, the ring....
I feel like disney is actually thinking to buy the rights for the ruby slippers...

I mean, there has to be some kind of purpose...not just for paying homage....

Go to the 19 minute 10 second mark. I sent in a question about the Ruby VS Silver slippers to a AMC Movie News talk show from on Youtube

This confirms it for me. We will not see the ruby slippers which to me is a relief.

Wonderful visuals, great story and amazing actors. Loved all the witches, the monkey, China doll, and James Franco was really charming.

Why is it a relief? By the way the guy that said there were no flying monkeys in the book was really wrong there.

That guy probably worked at Yahoo before, as Yahoo never gets anything right in their articles, let alone there gramar.

i dont know if anyone noticed, but all the witches seem to rely on the power of jewels. Evanora has Emerald(probably) as her necklace, Theodora has ruby(probably) as her ring, and Glinda has Crystal(probably) on her wand. This really explains the existence of the ruby slippers.

I never noticed that! Their power just might come from gem stones. Though that in itself I thought was a bad plot point, because it doesn't make as much sense (to me) as witches learning magic or having it born in them. Without their stones, they wouldn't be witches. But were they born with the magic stones or they got their magic stones from somewhere, what? And are you saying this explains the ruby slippers just because it apparently means magic comes from precious stones?

If magic is coming from gem stones solely then that wouldn't make them witches then, as witches are either born with or learn, though that can't be said for all witches, just with in The Land of Oz. Are the Ruby Slippers from 1939 really Ruby at all, in real life there not, but in the film are they just called that because there red?

Well,in the 1939 movie, the wicked witch says that she's the only one who knows how to use the ruby slippers, so probably only witches know how to gem stones as magic. I really hope they get the rights for the ruby slippers for the 2nd movie, because it would make so much sense.

I don't think there are many other girls here on UD, but did anybody else pick up the 2 Urban Decay eyeshadow palettes inspired by the movie?
They are really beautiful. I can post pics if anyone wants to see :)

Why is it a relief?.
Because if this is becoming a franchise, I don't want any references such or items from The 1939 classic film because I don't want the two being related at all. I think audiences wouldn't mind the Silver Slippers to be honest and it would be a hot topic that people will be talking about and will get people to read the book

I want this Oz franchise to be different compared to the original classic. This one should be it's own and not have any tie ins from the classic one

I declined this months feature title from Disney Movie Club and got his email
Thank you for responding to your Featured Title offer. This email confirms your decision to decline Mulan/Mulan II Special Edition 2-Movie Collection. You will not be receiving this title.

OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL

Oz The Great and Powerful
When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled to the Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot. That is until he meets three witches, who are not convinced that he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Putting his magical arts to use, Oscar transforms himself not only into the great wizard, but into a better man as well
I think they may be having a preorder on this next month. I bet this movie will come out in June or July possibly to Blu Ray perhaps?
