This was a cutdown of the 2-hour documentary on the R2/R4 editions (Sanders supervised its editing), so it'd be pretty superfluous.T-SoD wrote:-On Location With The Directors - 20-minute featurette found on the previous DVD
Gaaahhh! Not the incomplete version! Make it the complete 3-minute 19-second version! It's such a travesty that the DVDs all present a shortened version...T-SoD wrote:-"I Can't Help Falling In Love With You" Music Video - Performed by the A*Teens (1 minute)

Good luck getting Sanders back for any additional features beyond the existing 2-Disc release, being as Disney dumped him from American Dog.
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

Thanks, Panfan!
Also, I forgot to mention (mainly because the post was long enough as is) that I love disneyfella's idea for a Captain EO Blu-Ray release! It would be great if this was the first in a series of releases dedicated to extinct attractions (sort of like the videos at Extinct Attractions Club, but with Disney's support/cooperation)!
It'll probably be a long time before I ever post another fictional DVD in this thread, though I hope to one day tackle the POTC trilogy, as well as redo Peter Pan again, and maybe update my Beauty and the Beast set.

This is probably proof that I have gone INSANE.
IN. SANE.
Here's what I would LOVE to see. If The Matrix can do it, so can TLM, Tarzan, Lion King, Mary Poppins, and Beauty and the Beast.
I would LOVE to see, and pay any price for, this DVD set.
Disc 1: Main Feature and Technical Crap
-Original 1989 film WITHOUT restoration. I cringe every time I watch Ariel run down those stairs in Eric's castle. Ugh. >.< I know it was 1989, but the movie looks fine on my VHS. Or at least the file my friend sent me, which was probably from the LI.* It makes me want to hurt something. Or fast forward the movie.
-Restored version. Some people might like it. I guess it's okay. But Ariel's hair also happens to look orange on my TV.
-Commentary with crew.
-Commentary with cast. Please dig C.D. Barnes out of whatever hole he crawled into. (Why didn't he show up for TLM2?)
-Sneak peeks.
-OAR.
-EUROPEAN FRENCH, people! Canadian French is nowhere NEAR as beautiful. Putting Canadian French on a DVD instead of European French is like having a Whopper with McDonald's fries.
-Spanish...dub...I have no idea if they use Eu. Spanish on the DVD or not, since I don't speak Spanish all that well.
-Captions for Deaf/Hearing Impaired and French/Spanish subtitles.
Disc 2: I Wanna See, See 'Em Actin'
-Table Reads. Do they do those for Disney movies? I thought they did.
-I think there was something on the PE that had Sherri Stoner (was that her name?) modeling for Ariel during POTW. What about the whole movie? Surely there was more than just THAT scene being choreographed.
-Rehearsals for the songs. Particularly, 'Poor Unfortunate Souls'. I'm sure Jodi and Pat had to get together and work on it. Just a thought.
-How TLM Launched Careers. I have no doubt that TLM, one of the Fab Five, helped move along/launch careers.
-Animatic version of TLM, and perhaps have them for all variations of the script. Well, not ad-libs, but you know, the story changes and such.
-Someone should take the idea for 'The Little Sea-Maid' short (was it ever actually MADE or just planned?) and animate it. While I enjoyed 'Matchgirl', I think they should have done 'Sea-Maid' instead.
-Adding onto the 'animatic' idea, I'd like to see TLM re-animated with the concept art versions.
-Deleted songs could be placed elsewhere. Perhaps 'Silence is Golden' could be somewhat of a 'plotting' song with Flotsam and Jetsam. But I do want to see them fully animated and placed in the film.
Disc 3: Art of Their World.
-A documentary on the art, called 'Art of Their World'. I REALLY want more info on the whole 'outsourcing info' thing. Especially since the bubble effect was almost delayed because of the standoff in China. I want to know how to mix the color 'Ariel'.
-Another documentary. This would explain to some viewers why concept art wasn't used, why certain colors were chosen, etc.
-A FULLY ANIMATED version of the movie using selected concept art (voted on at a site such as 'fantasydisneydvd' or something like that. I dunno. Some Disney domain name though.) True, expensive, but I did say I was quite insane.
Disc 4: Part of The Broadway World
-A FULL version of the Broadway musical, in live action.
-A version of the movie, perhaps re-animating Ursula to look like her Broadway counterpart and, of course, changing the climax ever so slightly, featuring the OBC. Most character animation would stay the same EXCEPT for Ursula. Her new design kicks booty. (Actually, I just love Sherie Rene Scott. How do you NOT love her?)
-A commentary of the ORIGINAL movie by the Broadway cast.
-A commentary of the Broadway-ized movie by the Broadway cast, crew, and ORIGINAL cast. None of these would be translated into another language.
-EXCEPT for a multi-language reel. Not sure what song, though. Maybe 'If Only' or 'Her Voice'.
Disc 5: Ask 'em Some Questions and Get Some Answers!
-'Silence is Not Golden'. Why is it so important that everyone has a voice? Of course we know, but it would be nice to get some other opinions.
Also, how would Sherie Rene Scott and Jodi Benson like to help those who cannot speak up?
-'Wish I Could Be'. What is such-and-such-crew-member-or-actor's ultimate wish? Have they got it? Will they get it? Are they working on it?
-'Life is the Bubbles!' What was the BEST part working on TLM/TLMOB? Perhaps video diaries, cast bloopers in the studio and on stage, etc.
-'Childhood Memories'. TLM/Disney memories. Been to Disney World? Met your walkaround counterpart? Tell us about it!
-For the actors: 'Director's Chair'. How would you have made TLM different? Why?
-For the directors: 'Playing Around'. Who would you have wanted to play? Why?
-Disney Today. How is it different now than 20 years ago?
Disc 6: DVD-ROM!
-Your own fandub. Select character, strip their lines, then rerecord them. You can then save the movie onto your computer, and possibly upload to YouTube, like, a special Disney section of YT or something. Perhaps you could dub the entire movie. I dunno.
-1989. Voyager 2, for one thing. I want to know what else happened in 1989. Oh, I was born, too, but Disney doesn't care about that (I think).
Disc 7-12: Deluxe Special Edition Soundtrack - 5-Disc.
-Original.
-Special Edition - with a few new covers. I'd REALLY like to see Aly & AJ do a cover of Poor Unfortunate Souls. Miley did a pretty decent job of POYW. Maybe an extended edition with the reprise. Also, if Idina Menzel did this, I would die. I would so LOVE that. Of course all other covers would be there too.
-Broadway Recording. Also, I'd like to hear Pat Carroll try a hand at singing 'I Want the Good Times Back/Reprise'. And Jodi with 'That World Above' and 'If Only' and 'Wildest Dreamas'.
-...Karaoke.
-And here's the best part! Can't find your movie and can't get on YouTube? Watch the scenes on your DVD player!
-Another language, of your choice, included.
Disc 13: (This is where it gets Yucky/Confusing) Under the Sea Video Game Virtual Tour for Wii, Xbox 360, or PS3. Basically like 'Endless Ocean' for Wii, I guess, where you just sort of dive and swim around and see all the creatures. But maybe you could be in it, like, mid-movie or something and stop such-and-such from happening, which would lead to either a BETTER or WORSE something. Sorta like Choose Your Own Adventure, but better. 'Cause everyone likes video games. All ya gotta do is go to the counter and say 'I have such-and-such system' and they would put it in for you.
Cover: I'd REALLY like to see the TLMOB poster as the coverart. Maybe have Ursula in the same place Narissa is on the Enchanted coverart, and same poster. Y'know. Back cover would have Eric and Triton and Sebastian and Flounder. For the love of God, Sebastian must have white eyes again.
Slipcover: Want a slipcover? Like other countries' covers better than ours? Go to the counter and request such-and-such a cover. All the logos, though, would of course be in English.
Books: This is the part where I go TRULY insane. I want an 'Art of TLM book. I want a songbook with art from the movie. I want a deluxe songbook with Broadway stills/photos. I want the script, complete with notes/inside joke references. Also, a commentary script would be pretty cool. Maybe retrospective books by the main actors/crew.
Carrying Case for Discs: 'Cause let's face it, you won't wanna watch just ONE DISC of this baby. You'll want 'em all. Except maybe the videogame one. Disc would look like the shell. It wasn't a conch, was it? Ursula's shell, I mean. And you could have the discs overlap ever so slightly, like they do on most DVD sets. And perhaps, as a design, the sheet music for POYW+Reprise.
Carrying Case/Bag for Other Extras: Why not Ariel's bag from the first 10 minutes of the movie? I like that bag. Put the books in the main section of the bag, and the lithographs in the protective lining. You know, like they have on wallets for ID, but bigger. Two on the outside and one on the inside. When you take the one that's on the outside, which is on a flap, off, it'll show the Broadway logo (of her on the rock with the moon in the background).
Disc Art:
1: Ariel reaching up from 'POTW'.
2: Sebastian. Doing....something.
3: Flounder
4: Ursula. Both versions on either side of disc.
5: Eric.
6: Triton.
7-12: Ariel's sisters, I guess. Two would share a disc.
13: Flotsam and Jetsam. Or music notes.
-
Legal note: I do own the TLM:PE, and owned the LI (I think) VHS, and original. Both VHS' were stolen. DVD is floating around somewhere.
Uh, heh. Apparently a few of my ideas have been posted already, but this was still fun.

Man has a dream
And that's the start
He follows his dream
With mind and heart
And when it becomes a reality
It's a dream come true
For you and me!
And that's the start
He follows his dream
With mind and heart
And when it becomes a reality
It's a dream come true
For you and me!

Wow, that's actually a fairly impressive MTR set, Mickeyfan1990, I tip my hat at you, sir. I totally forgot about the "silence your cell phone" frog ad, glad to see it's included (and would be rather cool if it played before the film too, lol). The featurette with Stephen Anderson reading the original story is a very good idea, and one I hope Disney does in a future MTR re-release (hint hint, Disney).
However, I'm confused as to why "Red's Dream" would be included as it's a Pixar short and wasn't even attached to MTR in theatres (AFAIK).
Anyway, I was having a bit of fun and came up with this for The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy...
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: "A New DVD For Those Who Want It" Edition
Disc One: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - Feature Film (1:48:46) & Special Features (7:44:34 - audio: 5:26:18, video: 28:50, text: 1:48:46)
Technical Specifications:
2.35:1 Anamorphic Widescreen - Original Theatrical Aspect Ratio (Feature Film)
1.33:1 Standard Fullscreen - Original Aspect Ratio (Vintage Materials)
1.78:1 Anamorphic Widescreen - Original Aspect Ratio (New Materials)

Subtitles: All Features (English, French, Spanish)
Closed-Captioned for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (English)
Full-Motion Interactive and Animated 16:9 Menus with Background Music and nice frilly edges
42 Chapters (The Movie)
The Movie:
-The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - for those who wish to watch the 2005 sci-fi comedy, it is presented here on this Digital Video Disc in a nice and shiny transfer that was taken from high-definition sources and given a nice clean-up and disc-compression job, ensuring that what you're watching looks really good on your expensive televisions (and your inexpensive ones as well). Plus, it's The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. You'll watch it any way we want you to and not complain. (1:48:46)
Ways To Enhance or Ruin Your Movie-Viewing Experience:
-An Audio Commentary - for all you film nurds out there, we've got a chat track of mostly harmless information, direct from the mouths of director Garth Jennings, producer Nick Goldsmith, and actors Martin Freeman (Arthur Dent, you know, the human guy) and Bill Nighy (Slartibartfast, try saying that three times fast). (1:48:46)
-Another Audio Commentary - as if one wasn't enough, there's one more for you to listen to, although the budget allocated for this one could only get us two people instead of four. So, you're not getting Sam Rockwell (Zaphod Beeblebrox, man!) or Mos Def (Ford Prefect...do they still make those?). Instead, it's just Robbie Stamp (an executive producer) and Sean Solle (a regular Joe...no wait, he was a friend of Douglas Adams...hang on, who's Douglas Adams again?). (1:48:46)
-The Vogon Poetry Track - listen if you dare, to an hour and forty-eight minutes of Vogon poetry that was inspired by the various scenes in the movie. If you can make it through the entire film, congratulations, you've just won the "Wasted an Hour and Forty-Eight Minutes of His/Her/It Life Just To Get This Award!" Award! It will arrive in your letterbox in six years, make sure you don't move house. (1:48:46)
-The Hitchhiker's Guide to the <strike>Galaxy</strike> Movie: A Pop-Up Trivial Track - instead of subtitles that say what the people on the screen are saying, these subtitles feature useful, useless, and not-so-useful-or-useless information that may or may not be about how they made the movie. For example, did you know that the world record for fastest hat-trick in a game of marbles is three goals in 90 seconds? (1:48:46)
Fun Stuff You Don't Have To Do: (2:35)
-Let's All Sing So Long: "So Long, and Thanks For All The Fish!" - that memorable tune that appears in the beginning of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is now immortalized in a special sing-along version! Sing along, we dare you! (2:35)
-Marvin's Hangman - as if our ignorant lack of intellect wasn't enough to pain Marvin, this all new game allows you to disassemble him if you guess a wrong letter in the classic game "Hangman". Choose from three levels: Easy (5 disassemblings), Medium (13 disassemblings), and Hard (248 disassemblings).
-Yo, What's Deep Thought Watching? - click and see... (1:00)
-Hey Look, It's An Additional Guide Entry!: The Babelfish versus God - logic can even confuse even God. (0:45)
-The Improbability Drive - Do Not Touch.
Those Deleted Scenes: (2:15)
-Earth: Mostly Harmless (0:49)
-We're Going To Win (0:27)
-Impossible Forces (0:59)
The Really Deleted Scenes: (2:46)
-Do Panic! (1:50)
-Arthur Escapes (0:56)
How We Convinced Everyone - Okay, Some People - To See The Movie: (21:14)
-What A Wonderful Wo- Don't Panic, It's just the teaser for The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy! - and I think to myself...I'll watch the movie... (1:15)
-The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Guide Entry On Movie Trailers - perhaps the greatest example of how to sell a movie while poking fun at selling a movie. (2:24)
-Thirty Seconds of Your Time...Ten Times - 10 Television spots, each running a half-a-minute. (5:00)
-Selling It Through Soundbytes: The Making of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - yeah, we included that cheesy featurette from the old DVD as it was fairly promotional. (8:56)
-Vote Beeblebrox! The Music Video - a vote for Beeblebrox is a vote for 42. (3:39)
Little Surprises For Your DVD-ROM:
-Desktop Marvin - watch him walk back and forth, pick him up and drop him like a cat, see what he says!
-The Annotated Script - for your reading pleasure. However, be forewarned that any annotations made may not be entirely accurate and in some cases may simply be a random scribble of words meant for another project.
Disc Two: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - Special Features (3:26:37)

You'll laugh, you'll cry, and you'll fall asleep if it's 3 a.m.! (1:08:28 )
-Inside The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - wanna compress the footage some more? This twenty-five minute version aired on the telly, I think. Either that or it's just another promotional piece. (25:00, originally aired May 7, 2005?)
The Penultimate History of the Hitchhiker's Guide...Okay, Maybe Not So Penultimate...More Like A Work In Eternal Progress...And Eternity Really Doesn't Last As Long As You Think: (1:52:09)
-From One Man's Drunken Mind to One Man's Chicken-Scratch Page to That Man's Mind Again to A New Typewritten Page to Everywhere Else Before, After, and In Between: The Long and Arduous Journey of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy to the Silver Screen - a documentary about Douglas Adams and how his most famous work finally was made into a movie. (Bet you thought we'd write something long and funny like everything else!) (45:03)
-The Everyday Guide to Animating a Hitchhiker's Guide Entry: Featuring an Inside Look At Flash Animation And A Cheeky Babelfish - yeah...'nuff said. (17:21)
-In Space, No One Can Hear You Scream, But If They Can, It Must Be A Comfort To Know You're Not Alone After All - space is big, but the Earth is small, so how does something big in space appear on Earth? Through the magic of models and visual effects, as well as computers of course! And here, we learn all about the various designs for the spacecrafts, planets, and technology featured in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy! (13:24)
-What Do Vogons, Mice, and More Look Like When Designed By Silly Little Humans? - ever wonder what goes on in the minds of some men? These disturbing images apparently, and they were inspired by none other than The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. (12:25)
-It's Just Marvin: The Incredibly Depressing Story of a Robot Actor - Marvin was given a camera and told to record his thoughts and feelings about making the movie. He said, "What's the use? Nobody cares about me, anyway" and promptly dropped the camera in a rubbish bin somewhere in Houndslow. So instead, we followed him around with our own camera crew and would occasionally get him to talk to us about the movie, as well as get testimonials from other people who worked with him. When we finished and showed this to him, all Marvin said was, "You can rattle on about Doug Adams for 45 minutes but the limitless expanse of my intellect and the reactions of those around is only worth 23. I'd weep for the future, but that would imply that I care for the future. Go away, you depress me." Sorry, Marvin. (23:56)

However, I'm confused as to why "Red's Dream" would be included as it's a Pixar short and wasn't even attached to MTR in theatres (AFAIK).
Anyway, I was having a bit of fun and came up with this for The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy...

Videos Of People Talking About The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: (1:33:28 )
-Don't Crash: The Documentary of the Making of the Movie of the Book of the Radio Series of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - at long last, folks in North American who don't have multi-region DVD players can now enjoy this documentary that looks at the making of the movie of the book of the radio series of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Watch as we squeeze months of production time, footage, and interviews, into a compact and fun-sized discussion made especially for DVD!
