One time, one fan and her little sister went to a Paige O'Hara concert, and this girl told her little sister she was the voice of Belle and they would get her autograph, or just meet her after the show. After the show, they went up to Paige, asked for her autograph, or just went to meet her, whichever it was, and Paige rolled her eyes and walked away. She's not necessarily a perfectly good person. The little sister thankfully didn't understand what happened and her big sister said something like Paige was too busy.

What I mean is that these boards are not just meant for fans or to only praise everything that is Disney. It's meant for objective discussions and opinions as well.
Oh ok yea you're right.

Yeah I've heard Paige O'Hara has a bit of an attitude problem. When Susan Egan was playing Belle on Broadway, apparently Paige made a lot of rude remarks about her behind her back.

Neither are any of us. I'm sure MerPrincessJamie's personal interactions with her mean more than some random story on the Internet.

I've never really liked Susan Egan as Belle, although their voices are similar. But in general though, I far prefer Susan Egan to Paige O'Hara.

Wow. But I must say in her defense, if you have a negative opinion of someone, and feel you have to share it to someone, you can. I feel it's better behind their back than to their face, if it's mean. But if she was just mean and said awful things, then yea, I find that being a bad person.

Thank goodness that I'm not the only one who's noticed that Paige doesn't give the best vibes! Though it's unfair to judge her due to her aura, vibes and rumors alone, she doesn't come across as particularly warm, endearing or charismatic (which is the same vibe that I'm getting from Jodi Benson, to be fair). She's not utterly detestable, but she doesn't give the aforementioned vibes. Though it doesn't necessarily confirms that Paige is a bad person.

Susan Egan, on the other hands, seems like a nicer person and some fans have confirmed this, (and Egan is better looking, to be sure). Funny how they are the exact opposites of their animated characters, actually (though of course it's not a contradiction, that's why it's called acting).

I don't know whether or not O'Hara's an asshole and Egan's a saint, because I haven't met either one of them. I imagine if Paige O'Hara was difficult to work with, it would've come out over the years (considering I've read about so many other actors/would-be actors for Disney that were said to be difficult to work with: Eddie Murphy, Elaine Stritch, Nell Carter, etc.). There are plenty of celebrities who do not care to sign autographs at any particular moment. *shrug* That's not an abnormal thing at all and it's definitely not an unforgiveable sin. Either way, I don't get what it has to do with B&tB.

Well, she's the lead actress for Belle and due to her being mentioned, this subject was elaborated on.

It's not an unforgivable sin to refuse to sign autographs, though it's something that could be easily perceived as rude. Of course it depends how you look on it, but of course not every celebrity is obligated to sign to any fan. But it's of course a cordial gesture to a fan and of course doing the opposite can be perceived as rude, especially in this era where every action is filmed on camera (*cough, James Cameron, cough*).

The rumors about Susan Egan being approachable to fans are evident on the Internet, look it up.

I've haven't heard as much about Jodi Benson except that she's a very devout Christian and doesn't approve of homosexuality. But I don't think she's rude to her gay fans, it just hurts them that the voice of their idol doesn't approve of their lifestyle.

To be fair, Belle is a bit stuck up and condescending in her village so O'Hara's portrayal may not be too far off.

I wish Susan Egan was able to represent Disney more besides her brief stint as Belle when they kicked Paige O'Hara from the role for the Disney Princess line.

Apparently a lesbian fan met her and Jodi told her that she didn't approve homosexuality. Though I'm not citing that this claiming is true, the video by this user is still available; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZE4i7DTMHc

Uuuuh... I've never perceived Belle this way. Yes, it's understandable why people perceive her as stuck up, due to her dismissing her village. However, it's not a surprise for her to do so; The villagers are dismissing her and labeling her as odd. Perhaps it's a little stuck-up, but it's not as Belle was being snooty on her village in a malicious way. But that's my opinion, though.

OK people, Jim Cummings is literally a Trump supporter but we're mulling over whether Paige was rude to someone once?

I felt like Belle was not stuck-up or condescending but merely stated in song she wanted a grander life than the type they lead.

Word. Though she does use the word provincial, she still meant the town, not the people themselves.

Thanks for posting. I think it's been blown out of proportion because just because Jodi Benson doesn't believe in it herself, doesn't mean she is putting down that lifestyle for others.

I always imagined Belle with a similar backstory to the original fairytale, where she came from a well-off family that lost all their wealth, forcing her to move to this small village. Even the opening lyrics of "Belle" talk about how "since the morning that they came" to the village so I always assumed that she looked down on the villagers for not reading or judging women for reading, and they in turn judged her because coming from a more rural area they didn't feel it was right for a woman to read as Gaston did. Sort of a case of elitism so Belle judged the villagers, maybe not openly, but deep inside for their own judgments about her and being so backwards. So I really don't view it as a negative trait since the villagers did seem very antiquated in their beliefs, especially with them revering strong men like Gaston but considering independent women like Belle to be odd.

Oh, I didn't remember reading in the original fairy tale that Belle's family lost a lot of money. I did recognize "since the day we came" from the song though which had me think her and her father had moved to the village, but I didn't have any idea of their backstory. I don't feel like Belle "looked down" on the people. Judged, yes, but not looked down. But if you think she looked down at them, I can see that.

As for anyone thinking others are sinning for being gay, I think that's awful and they should not thing such awful things but I must admit it is a mere belief and though I think some beliefs, such as that one, should be changed, at least...at least...well I dunno, I think it's awful.

Now Honest Trailers has finally made their video of the animated Beauty and the Beast; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwu8XNTGX5o

I knew they would do it. But I'm surprised that the video has basically no references to the live action version
