Matthew Reinhart did a beautiful pop-up book about all the princesses that I own. It is a work of art. The TLM pop up book is on my list, but I haven’t bought it because I’ve heard there aren’t as many pop-ups as his older books.

It's true, The Little Mermaid book only has 5 pop-ups. I expect the same for Cinderella. :(

Interesting. Is this the book you mentioned?

I wish it had Moana instead of Merida.

You’ll love it! Not sure if you’ll buy from US Amazon, but if you do keep an eye on the price. It seems to fluctuate a lot. 3.5 years ago I bought it for $35, and I think I’ve since seen it hit $25.

I just got a message from Amazon that the book has been shipped.

You know, I'm shocked there isn't some kind of "art of glen keane" book out there by now. He's basically an honorary addition to the 9 old men but he doesn't have a book just about him and his art?

I agree, Kyle.

So, I got both the Disney Cinderella Once Upon a Time Treasury and Disney Cinderella A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes little golden books. I was disappointed to realize I already had the art inside two of the Treasury books, the 1950 and 1998 film retelling illustrations, in previous books I own. I was hoping the last book would have illustrations in the sams style, or even be exactly the same illustrations as those in the 2012/2016 books such as the "Story of" princess collection books. Oh well. At least now I have the Cinderella's Friends book, even though I really do not care about that story. But the Dream is a Wish book has beautiful new illustrations! And interestingly there are some references in it to the 1950 book, like Cinderella's vanity, the pumpkin transformation, and the outfits of the guests at the ball. It is a book I was very glad to get. It even has some motifs from the film's opening titles! It is a lovely book, so I did get something great for the 75th anniversary so far...Funko Pops and perhaps a doll to come!

Thank you for bringing the Treasury book to my attention. I used to have a lot of little golden books but not anymore so I'm glad I can pick up just one book to get 3 Cinderella ones. I didn't grow up with the Cinderella's Friends book but I did with the first two included in the Treasury so this will be a nice way to not only get my hands on those again but also be introduced to the Friends book. I love the mice from Cinderella! They are the most loyal and loving Disney sidekicks in the movies so I'm always happy with more content for them.

Tbh I looked up the book cover for the second book you mentioned and maybe the interior pages are nicer than the cover because I was shocked at how ugly the cover was. Cinderella looked frumpy and like a middle-aged woman! Is it the same art style in the actual pages? I hope not but you praised it so much and said they featured easter egg references to the earlier little golden books so maybe they do look nice but the cover was devastatingly ugly. I'm tired of Disney's agenda against beautiful people and normalizing ugliness. We can't have any exquisitely beautiful fairy tale princesses anymore, I guess because that's offensive now, and it's one thing to not make more pretty princesses but it's another to take the actual pretty ones and make them look homely like Cinderella on this cover. I hope Disney leaves her alone because she already looked horrible in Ralph 2 but this is almost as bad as that. Very large proportions to her body too, I guess because her original petite frame is now considered offensive. Woke Disney strikes again!

I wouldn't mind a Claire Keane book either.

I'm glad you can get the books you lost, Lavendergolden!

The second book's inside does have the same art style and same-looking Cinderella. She doesn't look as pretty as the movie but I still like it. If you don't like the cover art I do not recommend you get the book. But I love it.

Thanks, you're a dear.

Oh okay, then I think I will definitely not pick up that second book if the art style is the same. Thanks for confirming that I probably won't like it. I think I'll still look and see if I can find pics of the artwork inside to make sure because I'm curious about those easter eggs you mentioned. But I'll probably be harsher on them because they don't look as good as the original little golden books. I'm glad you love it though!

Hey Lavendergolden, I thought I'd make two pictures showing the artwork in both books with the vanity and pumpkin transforming easter eggs! Enjoy!

I like the artwork on the bottom left. I don't think I've ever seen that book.

This was so kind of you! Thank you so much for taking the time to do this! It confirms what you and I both felt that I probably won't like the artwork inside the new book. I do like the easter egg references and parallels to the original book. I like that they took the time out to do that and remember the legacy of Cinderella's little golden books so that's a very nice touch and thank you especially for posting the old pics next to the new ones.

But looking at the new art, I just find it unappealing. It lacks the storybook charm and whimsy of the old ones. I don't think the non-human art is bad but anything with the characters looks really bad to me especially Cinderella. I still think she looks middle-aged. I feel Disney doesn't like to portray beautiful characters anymore because it's offensive in this day and age for some reason. Like how they don't like to portray royalty anymore (good royalty anyway) unless they're adopted. Except for princesses of course because princesses are too lucrative for Disney to give up on so they instead make the princes and kings to be adopted so they aren't privileged (Eric and Mufasa in the remakes).

Also thank you so much for posting about the Little Golden Book treasury because I would not have known it existed unless you said it here. I received my copy today and will browse it in more detail later when I get the chance. It looks perfect right now and I love how thick the book is compared to the usual golden books. I know you wanted more than just the three included but I'm glad they didn't include any of the new books because I feel the new ones are not classics and would have tainted the value and prestige of this current edition. I probably would not have bought this treasury edition if there was a new Cinderella book included with it which has not earned its classic status yet.

My only complaint is that they didn't include this Cinderella golden book as well. I grew up with this one too so it would have been nice to have a new copy with this too but I guess I shouldn't ask for more since the three we got are already so wonderful and vintage. I really hope Disney does more treasury editions like this for other classic Disney movies.

Divinity, that art on the left is from the original 1950s Cinderella Big Golden Book by Disney animator and visual artist Retta Scott Worcester. It got put in Little Golden Books later.

Lavendergolden, you're welcome, and I'm glad I helped you not waste your money on a book you don't want. I don't think Disney is trying to make its previous princesses stop looking as beautiful, I think the artist just intended to make a "cuter" Cinderella and the rest of that film's characters. I am glad you bought the treasury, I really hope you enjoy! I agree, instead of "Cinderella's Friends", they should have used that other Cinderella Golden Book art. That art was also in a Disney Read-Along book I had as a kid. I guess all three books being vintage art of the main story is ideal...but it would have been nice to have those and fourth book with the 2012 art.

Tbh, I feel personally offended by the fact that a character like Cinderella is designed to be more cute than beautiful now. Do you feel offended as well? I ask because my thoughts are that Rapunzel is cute. Anna is cute. Moana is cute. Cinderella is beautiful though. Same with Aurora, Pocahontas, Esmeralda, Belle, etc. It feels at odds with these characters to make them cute instead of drop dead gorgeous. I feel Disney should not try to change their characters. Like Jessica Rabbit is sexy but now they're covering her up with a trenchcoat. Did you see how Cinderella looked in RBTI? I felt she had the worst design, almost looking like a grandma. Her hair was so light blonde it was almost white and they had those goofy ears sticking out and her facial features were too narrow. I feel sometimes that Disney attacks Cinderella the most because they feel she's the face of their princess problems so she has to get the worst punishment. Basically being punished for her popularity. Her redesign also had the worst bangs. If Flynn called Rapunzel cute, we would find it cute. But imagine the prince at the ball calling Cinderella cute. It would be so patronizing! That would not happen in 1950s culture or the Victorian Era.

This is the 2012 Golden Book you're referring to? I've seen the cover but don't know what the art inside looks like so not sure if it was worth including or not.
