Cinderella: Diamond Edition - ETA 2012
In the Disney film, Cinderella losing her slipper was an occasional thing. It fell off three times in the film at different points, even on her wedding day, so her losing it at the ball was just part of her quirks.
As for the fur vs. glass debate: This has been going on for many years. Even in the movie Ever After, one of the Brothers Grimm said "Some claim the shoe was made of fur, others insist it was glass. I guess we'll never know." I think it was always meant to be glass because it's much more "special" than fur. I mean, why would a fairy godmother give ordinary ermine slippers when she could bestow to Cinderella something as unique as glass shoes? Plus, every story needs a memorable detail.
Slipper and the Rose is such a good movie! And, we get to see the story from the prince's point of view. What's interesting in that movie is Cinderella doesn't even try on the slipper to prove her identity. He just sees her dancing in the meadows and he just knew she was the one, despite she looking like a scullery maid.

Like the new promo, it's simple but good
about the whole fur/glass debate, I believe it was meant to be squirrel fur (red-ish) in the oldest versions of the story, due to the fact it was a very pricefull material back in those days. Later they used the glass slippers, or golden shoes(it will always remain a clue whether it was translated wrong or not)
....but every version(material the slipper is made of) simply marks the stuff that was expensive in the time they told the story...

You know, I know this doesn't matter to like, any of you, but I realized in the new Cinderella illustrations, they actually did make Cinderella's dress part silver. Like the darker parts are blue and the lighter parts are silver. The exact silver in the 2005 restored film actually. So they did try to get that right. Like the lower half of her dress in this picture (though I don't know if it'll show up from a scan online, you can barely tell):

Hey everyone,
GIven that this thread will be read by people who like Cinderella.... I have a recommendation: for those who didn't get the collector's gift set of the Platinum Edition back in 2005, you can now buy the book that came with it on amazon (starting at 0.15 plus shipping).
I just got my copy in the mail. Its the size of the dvd case (so not too big), but its an AWESOME book!! Lots of development art and production pics... guys, seriously, its totally worth it!!

Good lord Duster, you have changed your icon and banner! I love it FYI as well

Just a quick question really; I am serious debate about what version of Cinderella to buy later this month. . . . do I get the original Blu & DVD combination pack (shiny slipcover and all ) OR do I get the boxset with all three Cindy films ? I do not care for the second for obvious reasons, but I do like the third.
) OR do I get the boxset with all three Cindy films ? I do not care for the second for obvious reasons, but I do like the third.
What would be the time delay between the boxset release and the sequels being released by themselves ? I can't remember how much after the original Lady and the Trap the sequel was released by itself .... ?

In advertising, Disney does tend to alter and change various characters and their clothing. Even under Walt himself this happened; Wendy from Peter Pan even changes hair colour in some posters.DC Fan wrote:I know this has been discussed before but...
who, when and how was decided in Disney that Cinderella's dress was blue when is in fact is silver?
I think Cinderella altered when the Princesses became huge, and it was to distinguish her from Aurora ? Or they just find that palette more pleasing.
Duster will probably know the full story ....

Thanks Atlantica!
I would get the original combo pack unless you really want the jewery box that has the three other movies. Even I'm not sure if I'll buy that. It's just a jewery box and a book with nice pictures that holds all the DVDs in it, and I've already seen some of those pictures in the last book that was released in a gift set for this movie.
As for the silver and blue thing DC Fan, I think that little children are less attracted to the silver of Cinderella's gown, and blue attracts them more. I have to admit it pops out more. Since Cinderella's dress looks blue during some parts of the film, whenever she's in shadow or darkness, they feel they can make her dress blue. But it's the same with her hair. They make it a very light yellow blonde because they think it pops out and attracts children more than her darker reddish brownish hair that usually is how it looks in the film. The 2005 restoration has made her hair look brighter and her dress bluer in the film though.

WOW, great scans Duster !!!! Could you send me those on email? their quality isn't that good here. I love them!Disney Duster wrote:Hey everyone! I have something that's really exciting for me, I'm not sure if you'll care, but here I go anyway!
A while back I posted how Disney was doing new Cinderella books with new artwork, some even by former animator in Walt's day, Floyd Norman. Well I have picture comparisons to show how they really did do a re-fresh of the books, updating the artwork and making it more beautiful almost like they're "restoring" the old books and putting them in HD just like they're doing with the film!
You see, to my slight dissapointment actually, they took illustrations that they have re-used over and over again in many Cinderella books and re-did them to be better, more like the film, and, in my opinion, more amazing! Some of the pictures are astounding in their beauty and closeness to the film, for me, even so much as to remind me of why I love the film so much! I can't believe no other Disney film has gotten such...royal treatment, hehe, in the merchandise department, signifying to me that Cinderella is special and may indeed be the most popular Disney film, or maybe just at least among little girls, hehe.
The first one I have here is when the stepsisters rip Cinderella's dress. Here's the comparison of the old illustration with the new one (sorry my pictures are a little crappy, I didn't know how to size my scans right):
As you can see, they fixed it so that the correct stepsister is doing the respective action she did in the film, Drizella is taking the beads and Anastasia is taking her sash. They were incorrectly switched in the previous illustration. They also added to the new illustration the red color that, if some of you remember from the Cinderella Platinum bonus feature the Art of Mary Blair, slowly built into the background in the film to add to the drama and emotion! And I really love how evil and in the shadows Lady Tremaine looks now!
This next one is of the pumpkin turning into the coach:
They made it more beautiful and detailed but actually somewhat less close to the film in terms of the character's positions. But they did change the coach to the correct design it is in the film as opposed to the previous illustration. The screencap shows it's closer to the film.
This next one is Cinderella running down the stairs and losing her slipper at midnight:
According to the current restoration of the film, her gown color there is more correct. Speaking of, in all of these, Cinderella's hair is a more correct orangey brown color as opposed to the light blonde they so often make it!
This one is the wedding. The new illustration is just gorgeously beautiful to me:
Finally, I want to show you the amazing, gorgeous, glorious illustration they did for my favorite part, Cinderella's transformation. The first picture I have is a mix of the coach transforming and Cinderella transforming but it shows what the old illustration of her transforming looked like. The second one is...omg omg omg I love it so much:
It's almost perfect, except of course they made her gown much too blue and hardly silver at all! So that part's still not accurate or close to the film!!! It's like Disney did studies to find little girls have an extreme aversion to gray or white or something! EDIT: Actually, it looks like they did try to make parts of her dress the same silver it is in the 2005 restored film. So they must be commended for that.
Anyway, that's all the comparisons I have showing the beautiful, beautiful new illustrations they're doing for Cinderella's Diamond Edition debut! What do you think?

Wow, thank you, but I have to log in to see that. And I don't really want to join. Could you E-mail me the picture if I E-mail you my scans? lol I just have one question, and that is, can I send you the scans as they are, where they need to be flipped to view them properly, or do you want me to flip them myself for you?Sicoe6256 wrote:Here is a textless artwork for the film's Diamond Edition release

I do, and it's okayDisney Duster wrote:Yes they will be a higher quality. The scans however do not look like how I have presented them here. They are actually verticle so for instance in that last picture, Cinderella would be like above the Fairy Godmother instead of next to her lol if you get what I mean.

Hey,
Yeah, I dont get why they keep marketing this movie to girls. This is a movie that girls will want without any advertising. Meaning: they should gear the advertising to the collectors and families... girls are sure buyers.
Meanwhile, what do we know about the new special features? No commentary?
