That's so true! I never noticed the kids' races in Recess when I was younger, only recently when I looked at it once with my younger brother. Angelina oughta cop on!

And who's fault is that? Hers? Or Disney marketing? I seem to remember people pointing out Jasmine was getting less and less attention in the Princess franchise recently, and of course Mulan and Pocahontas are "missing in action" in pretty much everything.
Giselle is also gets less attention (Thought I think it's because Disney don't know what to do with her so she gets even less attention then Pocahontas and Mulan).
Well,it's their fault that they basically cares who makes more money so it's baiscally Aurora,Cinderella,Snow White,Ariel and Belle who gets everything because they make the most money (Thought when they"re together I think that Jasmine gets even more attention then Snow White and Belle) thought if she was that upset, she can just go the official Disney Princess website/Disney shopping site/here to see that there's more Princesses in the line then Snow White,Cinderella,Belle and Aurora.

But Angelina's just being Jo(sephine) Doe. I agree that she should do some research before speaking out - not only for the fact she is a celebrity, so her opinions are bound to be reported, but also because she does exceptional work for the UN and developing countries. But, if the perception that she and the public at large has of the Disney Princesses is that they are all white, then its up do Disney to do something about it. Especially as they are marketing the Princess line so aggresively.
Most of my Blu-ray collection some of my UK discs aren't on their database

Well, maybe Tiana will get more merchandise and Jasmine might get more attention but still.

By the way, I think 'cultural diversity' is about culture and not about race. So, for instance, if you watch Hunchback of Notre Dame and Hercules back to back, you already have 'cultural diversity'! Plus the fact that THOND has a dark-skinned gipsy girl and Hercules has black muses!
Why this concentration on princesses by the way? Disney has more to offer than just the princesses. Why doesn't Lilo for instance count as example of cultural diversity?

Those are some good points, BelleGirl! I think that the biggest problem, and I believe that PatrickvD mentioned it in another thread (?), is that the problem is that the Princess films seem to be the most popular. Everyone has seen "Beauty and the Beast", for example, but a lot less people have seen "Atlantis".

Disney has had multicultural characters, but not that many people have seen the films, in comparison to the Princess films.

Also, many little girls want to be princesses, or they at least want to dress up as the princesses, and I think people complain that their little girl must dress up as a white princess. People do overlook Jasmine, Pocahontas, and Mulan. And they don't know about Tiana yet, I guess.

Two girls who lived on my street, years ago, dressed up as Pocahontas and Nakoma. And the girls are white. It doesn't matter what race or nationality the princesses are- they can be loved by everyone!

As a white girl, I guess I can't really understand where some people are coming from. But people can't say that Disney doesn't have multicultural characters, because that's false.

I just had a thought. It could be a stupid thought, I don't know. Every morning I go on different websites to get Disney news, and some are mentioning what Angelina Jolie said. What if, when "The Princess and the Frog" comes out, Angelina says that her comment was the reason Disney made the film?!?!? We all know that that would be false, but people not in the know wouldn't, and they would probably believe her!!! :x

I still think that what Angelina said is very uninformed...if only she knew more about Disney films. :headshake:

I don't know. She's an actress herself, and she's been in animation before (Kung Fu Panda) so she would know it takes more than a year to make an animated film. So, unless she's a Disney Hater, then I doubt she'd say anything.

^You mean Shark Tale? edit: oh cool! She's in Kung Fu Panda as well xD

I find it funny that it "upsets" her  There a lot more upsetting things in the world right now that this, which isn't even true. Compared to other animation companies, Disney is by far the most diverse.

I don't think that she whould say such thing but if she whould that whould be foolish of her.
I just was thinking and maybe it does not making sense of her not knowing about Tiana,I mean, she works on animation and she's an actress (Or actor),she suppose to know stuff like this, doesn't she?.
Why doesn't she just go to the Disney Princess website and find out that there's more Princesses besides Cinderella,Aurora,Belle and Ariel?.
And I agree about everyone loving all the Princess no matter their location or culture,so white American people can't love Jasmine just because her skin is darker and she's Arabian? (Ha,then Americans can't love any Princess because non of them is American).

I really agree, espically with that it doesn't matter what color the heros's skin is,it's the story.
(Thought I didn't liked how he posted her face on Aurora's body).

Have you read of the readers' responses on Blue Wing Disney? Some thought Jolie had a point because Disney just has made movies with '(westernized) Asians'. In otther words, that's not good enough to call yourself 'cuturally diverse'!

Oh, bother... some people are never satisfied. :(

They"re just imbeciles who hates Disney for no sense.
Some people (Other people) just think everything is racist even if it's not,The Princess and the Frog isn't even out yet and last year they made all those changes of calling her Tiana and make her above everyone in her movie.
I think some people just think that if you mention some race/culture you"re racist.
