Good job on the Valiant review!

I wanted to see this movie when it originally came out (the trailer was somewhat entertaining to me), but based on the summary and the disc content, it may probably just be a rental (or a buy used a year later for $7.99). Who knows, maybe I'll actually stop talking about importing from R2 and R4 and import this movie later on...

Great job on the Valiant review, Luke. :)

I saw Valiant in the theaters and I think I might pick the DVD up after Christmas.

Whoo, it's been a while since I read a review. I need to catch up on my feedback.

First of all, great job on the Chronological Donald review, Aaron; well worth the wait. I guess picture quality could've been better, but that isn't as big a deal with me as it would be with a modern film or short. Most of the reason I'm getting this set is due to the bonus features (especially the interview with Tony), but I'm looking forward to the shorts as well, and if I can, I'm going to try to find some of the past Treasures of Mickey, Donald, and Goofy.

I enjoyed the Valiant review, Luke, but I think I'll pass on it. The film never appealed to me, but I guess I'll rent it and give it a chance. The Kronk's New Groove review, however, got me quite excited. I.....guess I'll get this as a blind buy, but only because I loved the original so much and the returning cast members and making-of interest me.

Keep up the good work, you guys!

Thanks for all the kind, thoughtful feedback on the recent reviews.

In case you missed it, there are NINE (9) new reviews today. But don't worry, you don't need a whole day to read them, as they're the slightly shorter (but no less informative and entertaining, right?) CD reviews.

Check out our Holidays 2005 CD Roundup:
http://www.ultimatedisney.com/cdroundup ... y2005.html

Writing these offers a nice change of pace from writing DVD reviews and I hope the same is true for reading them. As this site doesn't cover release dates and have schedules for CDs, in some ways the roundups are even more informative than DVD reviews. Hope you enjoy them! Most of the albums should be of interest to many and Aaron and Renata did a great job of critiquing them.

I realise all the reviewers have been busy with so many reviews (and I'm sure holiday activities), but I was just wondering when we can expect to read about the final WDT: The Adventures of Spin & Marty ?

I haven't been able to decide if I should get this one or not.. I am really looking forward to reading the reviewers comments..

Can we expect in the next few days ???

Not sure about the status of that particular review, but I can say that I have watched a few episodes from this serial and a number of factors will determine how much you will enjoy it.

The show was originally screened as part of the Mickey Mouse Club, so we wind up with a series of 10-15 minute installments of the show. The show is a 'serial' and each part generally follows on from the previous installment. If we all remember, MMC was a daily show in its original broadcast.

By today's standards, the show is a little hokey. There is some overacting, and some very simplistic plotlines. Once again, we must keep in mind that this was designed for a young television audience in the 1950s. As such, it was never designed to push the boundaries of story development or characterisation. Indeed, if you are expecting wild adventure in the vein of Davy Crockett or Elfego Baco, you will almost certainly be disappointed. The stories are very whimsical, very much in the vein of the Tom Sawyer/Huck Finn stories. The pairing of a stuck up city kid and a wild rebel boy makes for a good combination, and provides the catalyst for much of the first half of the series.

In the end, how much you enjoy this will depend on your tolerance and general enjoyment of vintage television. More to the point, vintage children's television. The show isn't designed to shock or excite, but rather give children some pure, escapist fun. I enjoy it at any rate...

Thanks for your comments Loomis....

I didn't realise the episodes were so short, but of course it makes sense.

I am leaning towards not getting this now, but will save my final decision for the UD review as I would like to read the blurb on each episode.

I do however appreciate your input.

They are shortish, but there is still about 4 hours worth of them all up. I also look forward to reading the 'official' UD review, but I know just how snowed under the UD people are at the moment, trying to get all the end of year things done.

Such as this little beauty (shamless self-promotion):

I've been given full credit for it, but I can really only take half of it. I wrote about 5 of those 10 reviews, so kudos should go to our beloved Site Admin as well.

That Richard Gray guy seems to be the busiest writer around UltimateDisney.com these days!

Here's his wonderfully on-the-money take on a DVD called <b>Disneyland Resort: Happiest Homecoming on Earth (Official Celebration Edition - Commemorative DVD)</b> (what a long-winded title for 28 minutes of [insert bad thing here]):
http://www.ultimatedisney.com/disneylan ... oming.html

I'm trying to overcome this overwhelmed feeling experienced by my growing To Do list's imposing list of things I have to write about. The good news is (if anyone cares) the first installment of my five-months-in-progress Disneyland 50th Anniversary Report is looking good for being posted today. That only leaves me with two more installments, a Year-in-Review, three December DVD reviews, formatting over a dozen, and now 7 DVDs coming out in 4 days. Oh and an end-of-the-year reader survey. Most of this is merely theoretical at this point too. Even if I personally deserve some of the blame for trying to have a life in addition to a website, I do hope Disney's New Year's Resolution is to send review copies out a few weeks (not days) before release date.

Great review Loomis!

I'm quite mad they didn't mention Mr. Toad's Wild Ride! :x

I learned something new today: Richard Gray is Loomis! Loomis is Richard Gray!

The review of the Disneyland Promo DVD was very informative. If I visit the park again soon, I will be sure to avoid that junk. It's saddening to think that they put work into something that turned out to be worse than their free travel agent DVDs. More saddening is the fact that people will pay $30 for this when they could easily have two Gold Collection DVDs for the same price.

At this point, it's more of a Disneyland Park review than anything else, but I'm somewhat desperate to have anyone interested reading something I poured so much time into over the past several months:

<b>Disneyland 50th Anniversary Report</b>;
http://www.ultimatedisney.com/disneylan ... story.html

(And the third part will be a review of the <i>Musical History of Disneyland</i> CD set.)

Luke, it sounds like you had a fun time at Disneyland and I really enjoyed your both amusing and interesting review.

However being a huge Disneyland buff, I embarrassingly admit, I had NO idea there was a Home on the Range-themed petting zoo there!

The cat is out of the bag! No stuffing it back in now!

Thanks for all the kind words Brandon, Timon/Pumba fan and Robin Hood. While it is certainly not my first online review (my 181st DVD review by my rough count of DVDBits stuff), it was my first UD.com DVD review. As a result, I will never be completely happy with it :) At least Luke managed to tidy it up and make it LOOK good :P

The DVD is certainly a disappointment, and we can only hope that the Secrets, Stories et al DVD is the bee's knees.

Luke - thanks for letting me rant incoherently for a bit (although some would argue that my forum postings are pretty much the same). Really enjoying your Disneyland report, and look forward to hearing your take on California Adventure (a place that I will defend from most detractors, despite its obvious lack of adult rides or attractions).
