According to Blu-ray.com, Tangled was the #1 selling Blu-ray during it's first week of release (no surprise there)! Not only that, but it sold over 5 times the amount of copies as the title in the #2 spot, Black Swan.
Meanwhile, Bambi is still holding on strong after 5 weeks at #3!
I'm glad to inform you that Dutch magazine HP/De Tijd this week published a top 10 of best selling dvd's with Rapunzel (as it's called over here) coming from nowhere straight to no. 1! They use GfK Dutch Charts as a source, which compiles all kinds of hit lists weekly (like best selling records, games etc.). So this is amazing news: from nowhere to the top spot!
Here's the Dutch cover, by the way, of what is erroneously called 'Classic no. 54' over here:

Hhm, does it start with the special "Disney's 50th Animated Feature" logo at the beginning? If it does, that sure is one contradicting cover.

Yes, it does show that logo. Also, most Disney Classic dvd's now come with a leaflet on which you can keep score of how many titles in the canon you're missing; and stickers with numbers which you can stick on previous dvd's that didn't have those numbers yet. I've heard it has made some people cynical about the 'collect them all'-mentality it seems to push. It does include Mary Poppins, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Pete's Dragon and The Wild.

I do like the idea of the numbers because then it's easy to see which movie came first etc (I have them on my Disney DVD's too), but it's kinda stupid that the Dutch list of classics is different from other countries.
Yeah, it pisses me off too. And wile I could live with Mary Poppins, Bedknobs and Dragon counted as classics (they are to me anyway) The Wild really does not belong on that list. It is as much a classic as Valiant, Gnomeo & Juliet or The Nightmare Before Christmas. Disney did not make it and no one from WDAS was involved in it.

I agree. I just saw The Wild for the first time about a week ago (borrowed it from the library) and thought it was horrible. I didn't really find anything redeeming about any part of the movie; it was honestly a pain to get through.
It's already a shame that this title would get lumped in with the real classics, but the fact that WDAS didn't even create it is just a slap in the face.

I agree on everything except The Nightmare Before Christmas - most of that movie was made by Disney animators and artists, especially story-wise. But execs were scared to release it under the "Disney" name, because it was much scarier, and just plain different, than anything they'd made before.
It was an awesome week for new releases on the sales chart, or should that be "new release". While there were five new releases to chart, one of them, Tangled, dominated selling 3.46 million units while generating $51.92 million in sales. It is already the biggest selling DVD of 2011.
Tangled was just as dominate on the Blu-ray chart, selling close to 1.7 million units.
Yeah, that is terrific news! Disney has been doing great with their recent home video releases. I think that over the next few years we'll see more and more classic titles getting released.
With The Incredibles now out, there are no "firm" dates on the calender for Disney releases (meaning an exact date, not just Fall 2011), so I hope they announce a few more summer releases.
