I'm one of them. Especially since I'm getting a lot of slack for it. (Gets told I'm wasting money, etc..)Maerj wrote:Yes but I think there's a lot of people who are really, really sick of double dipping.

This, this, this. For a company that loves Blu-ray so much, they sure are fickle.Maerj wrote:Disney wanted everyone to go out and get Bluray players. There are many who have. Now they release things on DVD and not on Bluray, great way to support/push the new format. There are other titles that I've double dipped on DVD but I'm not really interested in doing that anymore. I'd buy a title like Black Cauldron on Bluray in a heartbeat but I'm not really into getting this movie on DVD again. Especially since it sounds like its not even uncut.
I would be there first thing in the morning to buy TBC on Blu-ray. But I already bought it once on DVD. Would I like to see the new transfer? You bet I would. But I sure as hell am not going to buy this and then buy the Blu-ray in a few years. And we all know there will be a Blu-ray release- no company is better at milking repeated purchases than Disney.
And if I'm proven wrong and there never is a Blu-ray release, then I'll just buy this release on the cheap at that point. No skin off my nose.

B-B-BUT BLU-RAY PLAYERS UPSCALE YOUR OLD DVDS!!!!! SO BUY THE DVD WITH A NEW TRANSFER AND IT'S THE SAME THING!
Just kidding, you are right. Disney wants us to adopt a new format but doesn't support enough with new releases. Why should Blu-ray be considered this 'pedestal format' where only the most beloved classics are given the Blu treatment? Disney should be working on getting more of their animated films out in the format.

Disney should really be working on releasing their entire catalogue. They hardly release anything except new films.The_Iceflash wrote:I think it's time for a new shorts line don't you?Neal wrote:B-B-BUT BLU-RAY PLAYERS UPSCALE YOUR OLD DVDS!!!!! I doubt it. Disney's only been advertising TBC for Disney DVD and it's close to its release. Doesn't sound like Disney to suddenly announce one of their underrated DACs release on Blu; I'd expect them more to delay the actual DVD.
Amazon usually puts up stuff like this, like Titanic on Blu-Ray. Idk why. Or maybe users are able to do this.

Ooh, I can't wait to finally see this one.
So getting the dvd, Region 1 ofcourse, since here in Holland it will have the Dutch title on the cover and a stupid number on the spine, to see which classic number it is, but since in Holland there are 53 classics (Princess and the Frog is number 53), that whole list is just screwed up.

Yeah... that's definitly worth the money and effort to ship it in from another country...Khonnor wrote:Ooh, I can't wait to finally see this one.

I'm hoping for The Black Cauldron on Blu-ray too, but I'm not too optimistic. Plus, the fact that Amazon lists it on there site isn't a good indicator in the release of the title on that format in-and-of-itself. I've seen numerous titles come up on there that never see the light of day. I don't know who creates those product listings, but sometimes it just seems like a way to petition the studios into a release. You'll often see listings for seasons of shows that aren't anywhere near coming out, with people's reviews stating "please release this!"

Re: the black cauldron dvd
It's just a placeholder. Amazon puts those up when it seems like common sense for companies to release certain titles. Off the top of my head, there's also "Gargoyles: Season Two, Vol. Two", "Gargoyles: The Complete Third Season", and "Victor/Victoria" Blu-Ray but none of those probably won't see the light of day for quite some time.fatcake wrote:guess whatblack cauldron might even be on blu-ray after all!

Uhmm, it's actually cheaper to get it from the US.Goliath wrote:Yeah... that's definitly worth the money and effort to ship it in from another country...
Last week I bought Oliver And Company and The Sword In The Stone, both still sealed and with slipcover for 25 euro, including shipping. You won't get those in Holland for that price, they are 16, 17 euro each.
Some movies I do buy the Dutch version, when I really want the Dutch dub, like The Little Mermaid and Beauty And The Beast.

You're thinking of "Bedknobs and Broomsticks," lovely Mary Poppins-esque film with Angela Lansbury.Khonnor wrote:Brooms and bedknobs? Not really sure about that last one.

I still think the reason (names, numbers) is a little silly.
