Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Discussion
Re: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Discussion
That is incredibly beautiful. So, it will come in a wide release directly?

Not bad, the day after my birthday. I'm still not sold on 4K, but if Snow's restoration is on the level of Cinderella's, I'll have to get it as long as there's a Blu copy with it.

The idea of a background in her skirt make me to remember about a Jim shore figurine or a Hallmark's ornament.

Re: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Discussion
I hate seeing Snow White crossing her arms like she's tough like that, and the witch with a walking stick she never had in the movie, but the rest of the regular 4K cover really is beautiful.
Sotiris, thanks for that beautiful moment of Adrianna with Julie. And Adrianna can still reach those high notes so beautifully!

I actually do like that pose of hers, it doesn't come off as that to me. It feels more motherly and gentle than tough. (Remember when she scolds the dwarfs for lying that they washed their hands but they didn't before eating the soup?) It helps that she isn't doing the "Dreamworks Face" while doing that pose.Disney Duster wrote: ↑Wed Aug 30, 2023 10:16 pm I hate seeing Snow White crossing her arms like she's tough like that,

Re: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Discussion
There is another artwork of Snow with her hands crossed where she looks more cute but the one that you are talking about is cute too. At least is not so awful as Cinderella's one where She’s holding her shoe with one finger

You’re right, Duster.
The Queen as the old peddler woman does not use a cane or walking stick.
In fact, when she’s trying to escape the Dwarfs after poisoning the Princess she’s really MOVIN’!
Faster than I could do running though dark woods during a rainstorm and climbing up a cliff!
Dumb choice for artwork.

I'm personally not a fan of this "let my dress show you what's in the movie" theme they did with both Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Cinderella.

The problem that I see is that it looks very amateur. They could have degraded the end of the skirt to make it look more harmonious.
Another think that I don't like is that Cinderella's artwork style look totally different from Snow's art. I would love that the covers have the same style of artwork…

Eh, not crazy about the cover, it's okay. The restoration comparison is beautiful though.
It'll be interesting to see comparisons to the Diamond and Signature versions once it's out. I don't think the difference will be quite as dramatic as for Cinderella, but I think they did try to make her dress a bit brighter yellow.

I think the Cinderella cover worked better (for me) because her dress is “magic.” I don’t know, this cover feels very “copied your homework.”

Re: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Discussion
Snow White’s dress is iconic and certainly universally recognizable (at least in most of the Western world). But I’ve often wondered why those colors, especially the yellow bottom, were chosen. As much as I know and have read about the film, I don’t think I’ve ever seen that discussed.
Maybe, like the ruby slippers in The Wizard of Oz, those colors were chosen for Snow White’s costume because they would really pop in Technicolor. And the yellow skirt certainly does!

Here's a high-res version of the cover: https://twitter.com/daveleedwnundr/stat ... 2782402726
I also think the idea doesn't work as well this time. In Cinderella's cover the dress was blue like the sky, so the two things blended together quite well. However, here it looks as if the castle and the other elements were over the dress instead of it being like a window to the rest. But what bothers me the most is that they made the dwarfs as small as possible both as characters and in the title. I think this is not a coincidence and it's a direct effect of the controversy Disney itself has created around them. Maybe there were some criticisms before, but I never heard of the seven dwarfs being considered controversial until now. I hate Disney is magnifying small controversies and even creating some just to justify the live-action remakes. I don't think it's a very wise thing to do either because they're damaging the image of their classics as a result.
Anyway, I'm very glad we're getting a better restoration and that they seem to be doing them with a lot of care this time. I'm looking forward to seeing more restored images like the one they shared, which does indeed look better than the old one.

And, yes, thanks for posting that video, Sotiris! I hadn't seen it either. It was really nice seeing them sing together.
I didn't mind it in the case of Cinderella because it was something new and original for a Disney Blu-ray cover, but I don't know how I feel about them using the same concept for more than one movie. I wonder if they'll do more after Snow White. Though, unless they also use other things apart from dresses as backdrops, I guess they can only do this for Disney princess films.

I hadn't noticed that about the witch. Good catch!Disney Duster wrote: ↑Wed Aug 30, 2023 10:16 pm I hate seeing Snow White crossing her arms like she's tough like that, and the witch with a walking stick she never had in the movie, but the rest of the regular 4K cover really is beautiful.

I think that's why they released Cinderella's restoration first; because the difference won't be as dramatic for Snow White.Disney's Divinity wrote: ↑Thu Aug 31, 2023 11:14 am Eh, not crazy about the cover, it's okay. The restoration comparison is beautiful though.
