Unfortunate for you. I see the 2D in it, mainly in the scene where Valentino gets his wish and in that scene he looks hand-drawn.

While I don't think it looks worse than C&D, it DOES look somewhat cheap. People in the media compared it with Disney Junior Animation (and I agree) because for me it just looks like a cheap attempt to promote it as a "homage of classic hand-drawn Disney" but I really can't see the 2D in it. It just seems like a general 3D movie with a cheap layout that has NOTHING to do with hand-drawn animation, it's just the fanservice for people wanting Disney to do a 2D movie again. There is nothing groundbreaking or new with this animation, it's just Disney's response to all the hype and trendsetting the Spider-Verse movies sent out.
I'm not fond of the animation style either. It doesn't look 2D at all. It looks more like previs. The non-photorealistic rendering they opted for makes the footage look like it's unpolished and lacking in detail, while the lines they put on top makes it look busy and unclean. The animation itself looks jerky and unrefined in places too. As for the character design, Asha and the villain look good, but Asha's mother and her human friends do not. I don't like at all the idea of Asha's friends being inspired by the seven dwarfs; I find it tacky and too on the nose. The song heard in the trailer sounds generic and unmemorable while the movie's premise seems boring and repetitive. In general, I'm not hyped up for the film despite it having some elements I usually gravitate towards. I totally understand why some people are more excited for the short accompanying it than the film itself.

Thanks for posting, D82! :) It was a nice cover! I like how Asha looks! :) But it`s still a pity that it doesn`t include more of the other characters.

Man, aren`t you a flamebaiter. You know, it`s forbidden to have personal attacks here on this board! And besides, I apologized to you for my previous comment, but I guess you didn`t see that!

I meant to respond to you earlier but was unable to when I saw the other user’s comment. But, I accept your apology and I thank you, at least, for being able to tell when you went a bit too harsh with your criticism.

So, Prince Kido, if you’re still at the Annecy Festival, if you’re going to the panel for Disney’s Wish tomorrow, since Jennifer Lee is there and because she is the head of Walt Disney Animation Studios, can you ask her if the Disney+ Tiana series will be hand-drawn animated and if the series being hand-drawn animated is why the series has been delayed til 2024 or later?

The song explains how Disney creatures have the ability to talk, something Lee jokes she's "always wondered", and presents the idea that everyone deserves the chance to make their wish a reality.

Yeah, that part made me nervous again about the film. I wonder who sings that song. Perhaps Valentino? It could also be Asha (or both), but not Star itself, since it doesn't talk.

We also got confirmation Asha's seven friends are inspired by the seven dwarfs and that the old man who was in that shot with them and her mother is Asha's grandfather. The fact that her father isn't mentioned probably means he's dead. And we now know why King Magnifico was showing her the bubbles that contain people's wishes and all that in the trailer; she was there for an interview to become his apprentice.

This entire movie seems to be a bad fanfic catering to fans with silly "everything is connected" theories. It's sad that WDAS has stooped to this. :headshake:

Since Asha's father is white and her mother is black, that would make Asha the first biracial lead in a WDAS feature, right? Well, not including the Frozen sisters after the retcon in the sequel. And since the Kingdom of Rosas seems to be a mutli-ethnic kingdom, Asha's parentage won't be something out of the ordinary, so the theory about her possibly being an immigrant or a child of immigrants is most likely untrue.
D82 wrote: Thu Jun 15, 2023 11:30 pmAsha is keen to find out everything there is to know about wishes by becoming the apprentice of King Magnifico (Chris Pine), the "self-named" royal who harnesses the magic to make wishes become a reality.
Does the self-named part refers to "Magnifico" or to "King"? Was he a king who changed his name to Magnifico or a commoner named Magnifico who by harnessing the power of wishes managed to usurp the throne and proclaim himself a king?

Yeah I was wrong with my immigrants theory (though interestingly it plays a major role in Elemental). Wish's world seems to be similar to Strange World's where different ethnicities live together without prejudice, but this time it's more inspired by Renaissance times Southern Europe/Mediterranean countries. Can't wait for the articles about how Wish disregards slavery during those times.

Well, yeah, duh, that’s the point, it’s going back to the traditional Disney storytelling people want where they don’t have third act-twist-reveal villains and it’s a fairytale in the traditional Disney way.

This article have more details about the movie:

Some of it sounds promising and some sounds annoying (I'm going to hate the group of friends knowing that I never liked the extended cast in their recent films like Raya and Encanto).

Thanks for posting that article, D82! :) It was definitively more revealing and interesting than the previous articles of Wish. But it`s interesting how there will be nods to Bambi and The Jungle Book (since they were my childhood favorites from Walt), since most of the Revival features starring Princesses have mostly referenced their Princess predecessors (at least in the public eye).

Wasn`t Hiro in Big Hero 6 technically biracial, too?
