To bring this a little back around to Tangled... I wonder if this might also be a situation similar to Moana's remake, whereas at least the music being better than the original would make it worth it alone (just like a Broadway version, which would probably happen finally if the remake is very successful), just as far as I'm not too fond of Cravalho's or Moore's voices compared to the rest of the princess characters. Well, I guess I should also include Beatriz, who also has a pretty weak voice, thankfully others do most of the singing in that film. Only song from the original I know they *couldn't* match is "Mother Knows Best"--although I hope they use the extended version of her pretending to be a corpse. If they have new songs like most other songs, one would of course be for Eugene, hopefully a "Mother Knows Best (Reprise)" where Rapunzel sings to Gothel at the "Did I stutter, mother--or should I even call you that?" line, maybe a song for Rapunzel after she believes Eugene abandoned her perhaps (maybe a dark version if "I See the Light"?). And, yes, I wish we could get an ending choral of something, but even TLM didn't have that in the remake despite it being a part of the original, so....

Oh, I love the R&H songs full-stop. "Ten Minutes Ago" is my favorite, but I love them all. But mostly the '90s version. The others are good, too, but the music was the best there to me except maybe Brandy's songs were probably performed better elsewhere (the music in the LAW version isn't too great except for LAW herself), not just because they gave the Stepmother a good song, too. As a side note, I wish I had something to actually add to the Jodi Benson topic, but I don't, aside from I wish I could see the shows, too, and that I'm happy for her. It's a shame things like that don't get uploaded to YouTube after a person's run in a role is over at least.

Hm. Well as a kid I preferred Disney’s Cinderella movie and songs to those of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s, even though neither were, to me, amazing, but with that being my first impression, I stick by it. “A Dream is a Wish” is about believing in your dreams and has a prettier melody with a more dramatic climax than “In My Own Little Corner”. “Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo” is more of a bop than “Impossible”. Only “Do I Love You Because Your Beautiful?” beats the Disney ones for me. I actually think the Julie Andrews cast is the best sung versions of the songs, except anything sung by Whitney is waaaaay better.
I completely agree with you on Jodi and the lack of video of her in those Orlando shows. If the shows are done just post the whole the whole thing online. Don’t let those treasures fade with the memories of only the people that got to see them live.
I would love some more Tangled songs. Maybe they could replace the whole soundtrack with 90s era Menken quality and call it Rapunzel. I’m only half joking. I want that. And I never saw the part with Mother Gothel as a corpse…

Some more behind-the-scenes looks including our first look at Kathryn Hahn as Mother Gothel

I have to say I'd forgotten that looking forward to these things can actually be so fun. The acid pool bubbling around the "Snow White" remake kind of poisoned me against this for a while. But until such a time that this remake's ugly side shows itself, this is turning out to be a fun ride, and I hope the movie comes together in execution.

Thank you Bluey! The castle looked absolutely breathtaking if that’s what I was looking at in the video and it’s not just pre-existing Spanish architecture! Looking at the costumes and at least two cast members I already think are great (Milo and Kathryn, I have never seen anything of Teagan), this really is something to look forward to!

I expected to like the JA version, but wasn't really a fan. It's really only Brandy's solos that I'm not fond of, most of the duets are okay. It's not because it came out when I was a child that's the reason--I've been critical of it over the years along with a lot of films I grew up with for that matter--I just honestly prefer its music to the others. Bernadette Peters, Whitney, Jason Alexander, the prince and stepsisters' actors are all great for me, personally. Listening to LAW on "IMOLC" earlier, I think I actually do prefer Brandy's version to that one, too, I suppose.Disney Duster wrote: ↑Mon Aug 03, 2026 11:10 pm Hm. I wouldn't want it to change necessarily, but I definitely would prefer the intended version of "I See the Light" and a better singer in the role, yes. The part I'm referring to is from the deleted scene for the extended version. She's guilt-tripping Rapunzel by trying to make her think about how bad she'd feel for leaving if Gothel were to die ("Let me die alone here, be my guest. ... You'll see, just wait..."), she holds her hands together like someone lying in a casket before rising up and making some crazy face. Been a long time since I watched it though.
I enjoyed Snow White and looked forward to it despite the attempts by Zegler fans (and Zegler herself really) to disrupt all discussion by somehow making the film about Israel. But they didn't ruin the film for me at all, I enjoyed it as much as I ever hoped to enjoy a SW film really in spite of all that trolling the fandom and flaming the other actors involved for not being despised like Zegler was. I doubt I'll enjoy this as much as that, but more than the original Tangled at least. The actors seem...fine, satisfactory, nothing special, but no flat-out terrible or 100% off-the-mark casting like with TLM or PP&W (nearly all the characters in those films aside from Vanessa and Wendy really....)
