Plus they will more likely make this film a loose adaptation of the comics, which I am sure, will piss some people off. Just like how I saw in the YouTube comments, how people were upset that "Frozen" was not a faithful adaptation of "The Snow Queen".

Bottom line... I just have to hope it is an entertaining movie. And that Disney will adjust their expectations accordingly.

But other than that, yeah, original tales in modern settings are always welcome. I'd dare say that a fairy-tale done in one could be very successful, as long as they don't get obnoxious with the pop culture.
If they handle pop culture references like they did in Wreck It Ralph all will be good.

The difference between Disney's source material for their past films and this film is this film's rights were already owned by a different company, by a different brand, not just by authors. Disney is it's own brand and must stay that way, not using other brands.

I also thought Disney using other company's characters, candy, and brands in Wreck-it-Ralph wasn't Disney. Of course I felt the whole video game thing wasn't Disney either, but...

So what? It didn't detract from the movie. You could use the same arguement against Toy Story, but product placement doesn't make that any less of a good movie.

Besides, this isn't a fair comparison. BH6 isn't being made to feature cameos from beloved Mattel toys or Nintendo characters, it's simply based off of a comic. Most people don't know that it originally came from a Marvel comic, much like many people don't know that Winnie the Pooh, The Jungle Book or Tarzan were all based on books. None of that was Disney's material either, but they took the liberity to change things so that it would work in a movie.

Presumably it has something to do with Disney Essence.

Based on all your responses here, I take it that no-one is expecting Big Hero 6 to open with the WDAS logo AND the Marvel logo. :|

One thing I wonder if this film will use the typical "Japan" stereotypes or not- we'll see the characters eating sushi, or watching an anime/reading manga, lots of "otaku" references, paper doors and sakura flowers...

I had the weirdest dream about Big Hero 6 last night.

Basically there's this desert shot of some dry plains close to San Franstokyo. Then an explosion happens, making the sight smoky. When that clears, we see a mecha bot stealing and being mechanical. Enter the Big Hero 6, looking visually like a mix between Sofia the First and Teen Titans Go.

Needless to say that nightmare woke me up.

Oh gods please no.

Disney the Weeaboo movie 2014

Sorry but there's more to the country than just rice, sakura flowers and anime ! That would be like Japan making a animated movie about America, and having people eat only Mc Donalds, while wearing cowboy hats. Just wouldn't be right.

I know it's wrong, that's why I posted that. The reactions to the movie would be hilarious then. :D

TJ Miller confirms in this interview with Bostinno that he is voicing a character in the film.
What kind of voice acting roles do you usually get?

Weird people. I play a dopey, teenage boyfriend in "Gravity Falls." I'm in Disney's "Big Hero 6," which will be their big release this Thanksgiving.

Edit: Miller himself tweeted that he'll be voicing Fred.
