^By any chance Ariel'sprince. Did you actually read the plot synopsis? jokes.

The Voodoo witch (Mama Oda) is on Tiana's side. She's like Cinderella's fairy godmother. And other Voodoo practitioner (Dr Facilier) is the baddy. At least I believe.

My definition of the 'Disney classic canon' is somewhat limited. To me, only Disney's traditionally animated major feature films released in cinema count.
PixarCGI for me is a separate category, and I don't see Disney's own attempts at CGI as belonging to the classics. And DTV sequels certainly do not belong in this group!

So, Princess and the Frog will be a classic to me, not Meet the Robinsons (which I haven't seen yet, so I don't know if I would like it - just another category: "new", not "classic").

Why is PATF the only traditonal animated feature of Disney announced so far since 2004? Is Disney still uncertain whether people will go and watch this type of movie and are they testing the waters with this one?

Personally I hope another 'traditional' will eventually follow, because to me CGI is no replacement for traditional animation, just an addition of a new technique. And I'd love to see more of stop-motion, puppetry and claymation too!

Same here. For me the canon ended with "Home on the Range" and will continue with "The Princess and the Frog".

Disney are testing the box office waters with The Princess and the Frog. There probably won't be word of a new traditionally animated feature from Disney (or any other studio) unless PATF is a success on the same level as a CG feature. The continuation of traditional animation on a feature-film level is really depending on PATF at the moment - if it dies at the box office, so will traditional animation (or so it would seem).

BelleGirl-Defintly agree with every word you said.
Pixar is separated from Disney, they"re not Disney and saying that DTV sequels are part of the canon is nonsense.
Thouhgt I don't think that there is official canon (And saying that Pixar films and DTV sequels are part of it are nonsense).
Back on topic-yukitora,I didn't knew that Dr. Facilier is a guy (And I know that Tiana has a fairy godmother or something but I meant the villain).

I agree, but I also look at a story and if it's a fairytale or a famous story or something, like Rapunzel, I think I will take that one as a classic, while Bolt will be in the same category as The Wild and Meet the Robinsons (which I also haven't seen yet!), according to me. (Yes, I know I don't make sense!)

Can you really call a new feature a classic? Promoting something as a classic seems a little... comprising of the term. "The Princess and the Frog, Walt Disney's feature animation's latest classic" :?

Anyhow for everyone who hasn't seen Meet the Robinsons - go! It's a surprisingly great movie, and don't let the "predictability" affect your viewing of the film, because it's more or less an adventure film, not a Disney attempt at something intellectual. I've seen a lot of obnoxious people go "ha, I saw that coming. What a dumb movie" when the so-called "twist" wasn't a twist at all, just part of the plot.

Well, at least does UltimateDisney still have a list over what features that belongs in the canon and not:

http://www.ultimatedisney.com/ultimateclassics.htm

I agree that it isn't totally correct to call all of them classics, but I guess that's the title the canon has ended up with.

Here you can hear the song "Down in New Orleans", performed by Randy Newman at Jazz Fest.

Enjoy!

:pink: :pink: :pink: Thank you sooooo much for posting that link, veu!!!!!!! If you read the information that the poster of the video wrote, it says that Dr. John will be singing the song in the movie!!! No offense to Mr. Newman, but I prefer Dr. John's voice. I am more excited now for the soundtrack- I still want Alan Menken to be doing the music, but at least we know that Randy Newman won't be singing everything, if anything! :pink: :pink: :pink:
I don't dislike his voice, but I'm just excited! The song sounds really good, too!

:pink: :pink: :pink: What a great way to start the day!!! :) :) :)

Here is what the video description was:

"Why does the Princess start out with a name like "Maddy" and the job of Chambermaid? Then Disney due to that uproar made her name "Tiana" and in the Disney tradition, had her be the heroine. Heroine of what, hookers and pole dancers? Disney made the AA Princess with big lips a big butt and big boobs. And why does the sistah have to be the "Frog Princess" anyway...we'll wait and see!"

What's that chick's problem??? Yeah so I'm gonna address her concerns. First the chambermaid thing, I could have sworn that Cinderella was a maid. And I as for the original name, I just thought Maddy (which is short for Madison. I do know black women with this name.) was a little blah for the name. Tiana just has a better ring to it than Maddy. Tiana does sound more marketable to me.

Oh then this chick has the nerve to talk about Tiana's design. She says they made her with fuller lips, wider hips, and big breasts. I could thought that most, if not all of the princesses, had curvy figures. Jasmine, Ariel, and Pocahontas does. As for the lips, Disney is giving her ethnic features. How realistic would it have been if Mulan had eyes like Ariel, knowing that Mulan is chinese?

Some people really just need to get life  . I say...Keep up the good work Disney!!!! :pink: :pink::pink:

Must say that I miss the old Howard Ashman/Alan Menken approach, I just can't seem to warm up to Randy's lyrics, or voice for that matter!

Just wait and see I guess! :(

Bring Alan Menken back! :( I never liked Randy Newman's music and especially his voice. Whenever i hear his voice it reminds me of the Family guy parody of Newman. His only good work to me was "Cat's Don't Dance" and "Toy Story 2" (Jessie's song to be exact). And his only Oscar song "If i didn't have you" sucks majorly. :x Members of the Academy that year must have been drunk :P
The "Down in New Orleans" is repetitive and trite. It leaves me cold and indifferent. Damn Lasseter's obsession with this composer! :x :x

I sorta had a similar post in mind but was too cowardly to post it
It's good to see I'm not alone in thinking this.
I fully agree with you on everything you've said.
