Still Missing
Since I did not get all the Limited Editions, I still need Jungle Book, 101 Dalmations, and Pinocchio. Otherwise, I have all the animated classics I need and all DVDs I pick up are going to right priced or for the family.
But, I will never consider my Disney collection finished until I get some Oswald The Lucky Rabbit even if Disney does not release.

I'm excited to say that "Cinderella" has completed my collection. When I placed it on the shelf in between "Ichabod and Mr. Toad" and "Alice in Wonderland" (my set is in chronological order), suddenly the room was filled with beams of light and a choir started singing!... Just kidding. I actually thought they would all look better next to eachother. I really wish Disney had just stuck with one scheme for the spines of the DVD's so they all lined up. I really like the way the spines of the gold collection looks with the boarder and the character on the bottom. Very much like the old Masterpiece Collection on VHS. Or if they could have kept them all like the spines of the Platinum's. That would look nice, too. But having them all mixed up and all the different collections (gold, special edition, masterpiece editon, platinum edition, and collector's edition) looks kind of weird to me. I like how Pixar's spines (if you have the re-release of "A Bug's Life") all look uniform. But oh well. I HAVE ALL THE DISNEY ANIMATED CLASSICS!!!!!

Wow! You got a lot of Disney movies in your collection. I have the entire Disney films on both DVD and VHS formats. "Cinderella" is the best place to have in my DVD collection along with the following classics like "Snow White", "Bambi", "Alice in Wonderland", "Beauty and the Beast", "The Lion King" and "Aladdin". The VHS format includes other classics like "The Three Caballeros", "The Fox and the Hound", "The Spirit of Mickey", "Fun & Fancy Free", "Melody Time" and the rest, except the same movies above are collectables. And last but not least the soundtrack album from Disney animated classics like "Cinderella", "Snow White", "Alice in Wonderland" and "Pinocchio" on both CD and the original Disneyland vinyl along with the rest. I've been a Disney collectable since forever. I should keep all the Disney stuff in my entire collection. I do not sell Disney VHS and vinyl. I should keep it as part of my historical references.littlefuzzy wrote:I have all of the Pixar (including the Ultimate Toy Box) and Studio Ghibli releases so far, as well as the Dinosaur Collector's Edition, and The Nightmare Before Christmas Special Edition. Musicradio77, you have a lot of Disney movies! And Disney music. You have a treasure trove of Disney in past formats, that in the future might be some historical fascination. Can you imagine some old historian finding your VHS collection and saying, "Look at the primitive way they watched moving pictures!" But I've always thought the original Classics Collection had something special about them. Even when Cinderella was rereleased in the Masterpiece Collection, restored, I wanted to watch my older "Black Diamond" version. And of course, I like the art on its cover better than the art of the later covers. It's cool how you're not going to sell any of your collection. It may be worth a lot of money in the future, but a physical memory of Disney's past is worth more to you than money.musicradio77 wrote:Wow! You got a lot of Disney movies in your collection. I have Cinderella, but as for it completing my Disney movie collection, I only really collect the movies I like, or I respect(for instance, I have Bambi not because I like the rather depressing film, but because I respect it). Sometimes it's also a nostalgic thing, like when I bought Aladdin because of my memories of seeing it in theaters at a young, happy time.

I'm not complete because I don't even know about a lot of those more obscure Disney animated films.
However, I think I have a pretty good collection. I've been on top of the PE's since Beauty and the Beast, and I just got Snow White in the mail last week. I have a few singles discs like The Rescuers, The Rescuers Down Under, and The Great Mouse Detective, and The Little Mermaid.
But like others said, I'm not going to kill myself getting older single discs, when I know some for of "better" editions will come out eventually.

You're missing out on a couple package features (even though they're extremely light on bonus features and the films themselves are quite fluffy). Make Mine Music is a wonderful film, as is Ichabod and Mr. Toad.Alan wrote:I don't plan on ever completing my colllection. I'd rather not buy films like "Fun and Fancy Tree" and just save up for some good old Critereon DVDs.
But then again, you're gonna save up for Criterion. I don't have any yet, but I'd recommend:
Beuaty and the Beast (1940s edition)
Charade (great spy thriller with Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant)
King of Kings (C.B. DeMille epic, silent version)
Lord of the Flies (rather psychological story of British schoolboys who turn wild when they're stranded on a desert island)

Yeah, I know quite about Lord of the Flies and Freud's psychoanalysis because I read that book in english class last year, and also discussed the psychology behind the story. I know that there is an R-rated version of the movie, and I refuse to see it, because I just can't stand the thought of seeing all the violent scenes in the book in full color. However, I can "tolerate" blood in Black and White movies (Schindler's List), so I'll definately check Lord of the Flies out. Lord of the Flies is actually one of my favorite books, and its message is extremely powerful.Escapay wrote:Lord of the Flies (rather psychological story of British schoolboys who turn wild when they're stranded on a desert island)

IIRC, that's the 1990 version from MGM. I don't remember if it was faithful to the book at all or not (I'm guessing or not).Alan wrote:I know that there is an R-rated version of the movie, and I refuse to see it, because I just can't stand the thought of seeing all the violent scenes in the book in full color.
The Criterion LOTF is the 1960 one by Peter Brook and usually SRP's for $39.95, but if you wanna save a few bucks and get it for $25, you can spring for the Great Adaptations boxset (SRP $99.95), which includes Lord of the Flies, Oliver Twist, Great Expectations, and one more (I wanna say Hamlet, but I'm not sure).

I'm going to attempt to rent those "package films" from blockbusters or something, because I only buy admirable Disney films with good extras, etc. I have some DVDs in my collection that I only watch once, mainly Chicago), and I would have saved some money if I had rented/borrowed them than to buy them.Escapay wrote:You're missing out on a couple package features (even though they're extremely light on bonus features and the films themselves are quite fluffy). Complete
With Cinderella it is official i own all the Disney animated movies on DVD now in their many different forms Special Edition Collectors Edition Platnum Limited Issue Etc Etc Etc
I have been lucky enough to be picking them up as they were released from Nov 1999 to present never imagining they would release them all within 6 years to the format. I never was able to complete my laserdisc collection so DVD was a nice surprise for me.
I look forward to the platinum re releases of titles i already have and any other special editions Disney decides to release.
I still want to see 2 disc treatment for Hunchback of Notre Dame and Hercules Black Cauldron among others that deserve it and with their 10 year anniversaries approaching what better time like Pocahontas for Herc and Hunchback. I can only hope.
I am just glad i can now watch any one of the original animated movies whenever i want now.
I also have all the treasures and will keep adding to my collection so my collection will never stop.
