I know what you mean ... after watching that movie I had a hard time taking a shower because of the scene in the showers. I HATE scary movies! The only one that I like is 13 Ghosts

I am a schlockmeister and a gorehound...

I just got done watching Peter Jackson's Dead Alive, and I found a new movie for my favorites!

I like everything, from the old silents (Nosferatu 1922,) to Night of the Living Dead, to 80's slasher films (Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street,) to Euro horror (Argento, Fulci, etc.)

I just watched Alone In The Dark and Darkness. Neither was any good, IMO. Boring too. And now where near being creepy. My mom fell asleep through both and the only thing that kept me away was the thought that it might get better.

I finally saw Seed of Chucky, though more like a gory comedy. I'm a Chucky fan through and through. It was amusing, but Chucky just didn't seem to have as much fun as he use to. Too many shots of the urinating Glen/Glenda. But somehow I just kept thinking more Muppets on Crack then Chucky

Next up...Cursed....Not nearly enough werewolve movies out there and I have always liked Wes Craven and Christina Ricci, so I am thinking I will at least enjoy that one.

Don't waste your time and money. That was a terrible excuse of a horror movie. I honstly think it was actually a parody, but it was advertised as an actual horror movie. Trust me, in a movie where the werewolf flicks everybody off, it's hard to take anything seriously.

I was watching Plan 9 From Outer Space for the first time the other day. BAD BAD BAD movie, so bad it's hysterical. I think my favorite part was the detective who had his finger on the trigger the whole time he was using the barrel of the gun to rub his shoulder and chin and then he points it at people while he talks, never relizing just how dangerourly fake it looks.

Miss Jo, watching scary movies for some is like the safer version of diving from an airplane. The thing is, as human beings, we are hard wired to want some action. The days of hunting for our own food on a regular basis is gone. And the days of being hunted on a regular basis is gone. So adreneline just sits in our bodies and stews. We want more. That's why some are rollar coaster fanatics, some enjoy bungee jumping or parachutting, and others enjoy a good scare from a movie. It's just the desire to get out pent up energy. Most of us have our ways of liking to be scared. I prefer a movie over a bungee jump. But psychological studies have been done and being scared by a movie gives similar results as jumping from an airplane, we just feel safer with are behind planted in a seat.

Well, not everybody does that. I do know people who watch horror movies just for the jumps and stingers (technical term for a jump), but that's such a bad stereotype of the modern horror fan. It may very well be true.

But horror / scary movies are about so much more than 'being scared' or one of my least favorite descriptions- "a rollercoaster ride". Some horror films are based on fears, while some are crazy distortions of everyday events. Some are psychological and emotional, others are visual and visceral. And let's not forget the ever popular, storylines and plots. As a genre, horror is the single most ELASTIC of all other categories of film. It encompases every other emotion. Oh this is such a bad time for me to try and explain this, but I have more to say...

Unless it's directed by Alfred Hitchcock, horrors are usually just dumb films! Then again I haen't given much horrors a chance but I've seen three horror movies not directed by Alfred Hitchcock and the were all pretty bad! I prefer Sci-Fi, Adventure, Comedies, Westerns, and Animation!

Most mainstream genres, such as adventure, action, drama, romance, and comedy have been watered and dumbed-down for consumption by mass audiences. However, horror, even today, remains the most psychological, esoteric, internally revealing, intelligent, inspired, among other things, of all today's genres.

But look at who's judging these films now...

You know what is a really scarry movie... Night of the Living Dead. That movie totally freaked me out. And I'm talking about the original black and white movie. It really get's me excited. I love it.

Also, watch a horror movie is quite funny.
I mean, depend of which you watch, because there´re some that are more boring that watching the paint get dry.
But watch an original way of die, or making suffer is quite interesting(I never knew you could kill in so many ways until I watched all the Friday the 13th movies).

For me:
More Gore & Blood= more fun

There are only a few movies that had the honor of scaring the crap out of me. Most I am too busy laughing or guessing, it doesn't scare me

But let's see.

Magic scared the crap out of me as a kid. Took me a long time to get over a fear of ventrilquist (sp?) dummies

I have yet to watch this one again, haven't found it yet. See if it still gives me nightmares.
The Gate....the eye in the hand...still gives me chills. And even though that claymation is still outdated, there is still that nostalgic creepiness
IT....no, it wasn't the clown actually....it was that damn winking picture! Moving pictures, things coming out of TVs, etc, bother me, creep me out. Oddly enough the moving pictures on Harry Potter have never bothered me. But to this day, that winking picture gives me chills

The Ring is the only recent movie that scared the crap out of me...again, the tv thing. It wore off though after a few months. But the first night I saw it, I came home and went to bed, and Samara would not leave my mind. My daughter has VERY long hair. As I was trying to fall asleep, my daughter touched me and I opened my eyes. In the darkness, all I saw was a little girl with long hair and I jumped out of bed....and scared her, LOL
