The new shorts on the Disney Princess DVDs are glorified read-alongs and are about 10 minutes long. They couldn't string a legitimate Cinderella III out of them if they tried.
how long did the Cinderella 2 shorts last? i ask as i didn't (and never will) see the sequel.
If there is a preview on the platinum edition, i'm quite sure it will be a cheap product just as Cindy2 and not a new long storY. We'll see in october!

Actually, the direct-to-video sequels are probably the most talked about and least bought Disney DVDs among many or most of the regular forum members.

Looking on the bright side, a Cinderella III means they can redeem the integrity of the first movie by hopefully not addressing the mess of the first sequel, or at least trying to fix it.

Let's look at all three stories that made up the second Cindy:

1. Cinderella wants to throw a party, and instead of being prim and proper, she invites her friends, the rabble. Happy ending.

2. Jacques feels useless as a mouse (despite him having helped Cindy a lot in the original), so Fairy Godmother changes him into a human, and he realizes he's still helpful as a mouse. Happy ending.

3. Anastasia falls in love with the baker, and Cindy helps her nab her man. Happy ending.

So let's take Cindy III, and figure out how to make it a step up from Cindy II, which was half-way decent as far as sequels go.

If we're lucky, maybe they won't follow the "role reversal" pattern of other sequels, and hopefully they won't follow the "three-story" mess they had with Cindy 2. So the best they can do is come up with one cohesive story, with a few "subplots" thrown in for good measure.

I have no idea what kind of story they could do to make a Cindy III, but it damn well be better than Cindy II, and at least keep some important facts from Cindy I. We never did see Anastasia apologize to Cinderella for they way she treated her, yet Cinderella was willing to help her anyway. I guess that's why she's a princess, she's good at heart and all that junk.

Maybe we could have Cinderella III deal with Drizella and her undying hatred for Cinderella and resentment towards Anastasia, who essentially betrayed her and Lady Tremaine by choosing the Baker over them. Perhaps Drizella would plot for some type of revenge, not necessarily killing someone, just humiliation. Cinderella and Anastasia apparently must be on good terms by now, so they could side together against Drizella.

The mice have to fit in here and be as useful as the first movie, so long as we get ride of that stupid "PomPom", but keep Lucifer (and I still scratch my head at how he survived that fall from the tower). They could learn of Drizella's revenge, and try and warn Cinderella, who doesn't believe him because perhaps Drizella is faking being friends with Cinderella.

The Prince, who always had a small role, should stay a small role, as the original movie was about Cinderella, as was the second, to an extent.

Meh, I can't think of anymore...

I would love for DIsney to follow the plot or idea of the book "Just Ella" and base their third installment on that. Sure, they would have to tweek it here and there, but the basic plot is that cindy hates the palace life and her only friend is her teacher because the prince is always too busy to see her. Soon enough, she realizes he's more boring than charming and tries to call it quits. When the prince and palace refuse, she tries to run away, gets thrown in dungeon, digs herself out and then runs away to live with the teacher. All the while, the palace, fearing what the townsmen will say, decide to go back to the source (where they found cindy) and pick one of her sisters to be his new bride. It was a really good book, ironically, its what i thought CIndy 2 would be based on when i bought it... i was in for quite an unpleasant suprise.

But seriously, if disney actually USES their brain, they could come up with a decent plot that is neither rehash nor episodic, heck, the author of the book managed to, why can't they?

Wow Wicked cool I have never heard of that story but I totlay agree with you. You are right if Disney did it right and thought it through I eman isnt that sort of what Pocahantas did in Journey to a new world choose between to men. And Aladdin was in jail and escaped yes yes I could see it. Good thinking :thumb:

Sadly, i feel the above mentioned plot would ruin the magic of cinderella...the point is cinderella and the prince were love at first sight and they are eternal...adding a 3rd dimension of emotion onto them would be out of character...such as a divorce or her even leaving with another man...that is not something i would want my kids seeing...

A plot that would work and would be in Disney's style would be...if Cinderella's daughter is set to be married to another prince, but ends up falling for a peasant boy in the town, and the boy has a cruel father, and cinderella greatly disapproves of the romance at first, but then realizes that that boy is just like her...i think it would be a fun little story, and it would be nice not to have to continue tarnishing Cinderella's actual story...but rather work on her children.

yeah, i see where you're coming from psifreek27, but honestly, disney has been producing pretty mature kid stories for a while, hell, look at hunchback of notre dame! And sure, your plot is a lot more kid friendly, but it's basically like the other users said, a rehash of the first one but with a switch in places, like the little mermaid two or lion king two. I would honestly rather see a different movie. Still, it would be better than an episodic movie...

Ok, I was staying out of the conversation until now. . .

Why not accept Cinderella II for what it is at face value? It's targeted toward the younger set with its bright colors and positive stories.

I mean, it obviously doesn't compare to the original, but it doesn't really try. Personally, I think it would have been better off with a title like "Cinderella's Stories" as opposed to grabbing the original title and sticking a 2 on it.

Look, I'm just trying to use the same mindset as I use for something like Baby Looney Tunes, which is a great show for the young ones with its pacing and problem-solving and wholesome, positive values. And most Looney Tunes fans are outraged by it?

Come one, people! No one's forcing you to watch this stuff, anyway!

I completely agree with you, i choose which to take more seriously than others..for example a cinderella 2 is more just fluff compared to the original as opposed to say return to neverland which is a genuine film that doesnt exactly destory any sort of rule set in the first....in general though i think people take the sequels too seriously, i mostly like them if the animation is nice and i get to see my favorite characters again.

That's the problem. These past years, Disney has settled for only OK stories that should be watched only by children. Why not make a proper sequel, with the whole family in mind?

I actaully like the idea I think its cool I mean look at Sleeping beauty I am pretty sure it was here in this forum that I learned the full story that was changed to fit the Disney style but it dosent end pretty at all. And I eman even in Pocahantas Journey to a new World she leave Joshn Smith. Its just done in a subtle kind of way. I like the idea of the fairytale some what ending becasue lets face it life is not always a Fairy tale and things dont always ends the way we expect them. But I know realsticly your plot idea will be choosen more than likely :) . Just thoguht I would put my thoughts out there.

I know than this will not sound as my post of "Diney would ever be forgotten?" but...

I think than all in excess harm, water,hot,rain,food--you call it--even suga and sweetness.
I´m maybe the only one ho think this but I belive than Disney movies--non pixar,of course-- are sweeter and more tender every year.
I mean, on Cinderela or Sleeping Beauty the main characters yes, have heirs happy times and also their problems(sometimes, more than they could ever deserve)but always they reached their goals.
Today,lt´s say Brother bear, yes the MC have problems and good moments and it have a message than you must always have to see the good part of the adversity(ok,my brother wants to kill me and I have to take care of a ber, but I get a new little brother and my older brother it´s a shame of a hunter, excelent tracker, but a shamely hunter)

I belive than teaching not only to see the light on the dark or always bing positive it would be nice to teach the childrens "hey, sometiomes the situation it´s bad and there´s not a positive way on it.Don´t cry, but grow and overpass your fear and sorrow so you survive"

it woudn´t be a large movie--as I think it just a second ago--If they don it in Bambi in only a few seconds I think they can do it again

I wonder if this will be one story or a compilation of shorter segments like cinderella 2.

I am not a fan of the cheap direct to video sequals. But the tv show adaptations don't really bother me so much. I don't know why, exactly, but if they had taken the three cinderella shorts from cinderella 2, and put them on a disc with an episode from the little mermaid tv show and the alladin tv show, and called it "disney princess stories, volume 1-3" it wouldn't have bothered me at all. I think calling it "Cinderella 2" and then having the lower quality shorts was the problem to me.

Well, sadly, the animation market is a heck of a lot different than it was in 1950.

Do you realize that the average modern-day kid gets bored when watching the original Cinderella? And believe me, I've tried to get them interested, but they'd rather be watching SpongeBob, Yu-Gi-Oh, or Teen Titans. They actually ask me to turn it off! But Cinderella 2? That was something they could handle, probably because the colors were bright and the stories were fun and short.

Let's face it, why would Disney even bother putting a lot of effort into something like this, anyway? I mean, it's obvious that the fans don't take the sequels seriously, and besides, not only are the fans the most finicky, they're also in the minority. If moms are gonna buy this movie for their little girls and be happy consumers, well, then there's a market to be had.

Amen :) ! , I could not agree with you more. Disney has been showing different sides of the story for a while now. I think thats why I am so fond of Lilo and Stitch and not so typical family home life.
