I'd rather they kept this all in, and got rid of Madame Trelawny for example.

I think PoA was the worst Harry Potter film. CoS was be far the best.

I know this is an old post, but I just had to comment on it (dunno why I hadn't noticed it before). To me, Prisoner of Azkaban was the best because it worked as a film. I absolutely love SS (PS for you) and CoS, but that's mainly because of my love of the books. When looked at as literary adaptations, problems arise. SS/PS in particular plays out like a series of live action storyboards. Chris Columbus just kept trucking along from one major event to the other without making them flow, resulting in a somewhat choppy film. Admittedly, the first book is pretty episodic, and one understands that with the enormous pressure laid on Chris, he had no choice but to be safe or else have his head severed. Still, he should've taken more risks. Of all three Harry Potter films, the first would benefit the most from an extended version (from what I understand, something like 20 minutes of footage was cut, yet the DVD only gives us about 5 of that). Chris started to come into his own with CoS, though. He started embellishing, condensing, and outright omitting various things, which resulted in a much better flow and film experience. Then Alfonso Cuaron came in and took that to a whole other level. I feel that Alfonso understood the concept of storytelling better than Chris Columbus did. Alfonso pretty much tossed out all of the fat that didn't push the plot forward, yet still added his own touches, and cleverly combined various scenes into single ones to compress time. As a result, I think PoA ends up being the most cinematic of the three. The first two, as previously said, are more like moving storyboards/reader's digest outlines whereas PoA is really an adaptation not afraid of change. When I saw the first two in theaters, I always immediately noticed when something was left out or when the film took a rare deviance from the novel. I didn't notice that with the third at all until I thought about the film some time afterwards. Also, Cuaron grasps magic better than Columbus did. Magic in SS/PS and CoS was always put into the spotlight, but was practically non-existant when not the focus of the camera. PoA, on the other hand, has magic everywhere, but it's not highlighted with exclamation marks; it's all embedded into the background, thus making multiple viewings a treat. Yes, leaving out the Mauraders explanation (which would only have taken a grand total of 2-3 minutes to explain) was wrong, but from what I understand, it'll be addressed in the next film. Besides, the previous films left out little plot points that caused unanswered questions such as who gave Harry the invisibility cloak, why does Harry's scar keep acting as red flag, how did Tom Riddle use the diary to possess Ginny, why did the sword of Gryffindor randomly appear out of the sorting hat, etc. People just tend to notice the Maurader's thing more because that's what comes to most fan's minds when PoA the book is brought up. All right, I just typed A LOT more than I originally intended, but I just had to defend PoA.

As for the actual topic: The stills have me greatly excited for this. :D What I most want to see is Ralph Fiennes in Voldemort make-up, but I know WB won't show that before the film comes out (they didn't with movie 1's Voldie).
YEAH!!.... ...Ditto on what he said!!!

I LOVED PoA!!! CoS shoulda had the Deathday Scene, and PoA shoulda had Marauder's Explaination, But ill live..........

I hope that when they promote movie 4 they dont give away the ending. A lot of fans rely solely on the movies and not on the books, and having that would give away the best part of the book. I have faith in WB though, b/c they didnt ruin Movie 3 with Sirius' "goodness"

It would be cool to see some Special Featurs in the Promo Pics though! And some cool Task I and II scenes!

personally, i am so excited for this film not only because i think the films keep getting better and better (PoA is my fav) but Goblet of fire is my favorite book. But I can also understand that they will need to cut out a lot for this film, but as long as they keep the main point i will be happy...but yeah if they did put everything into the movie, i wouldnt mind sitting there for 4 1/2 to 5 hours :)

I think Rupert should cut his hair. I don't think it's meant for Ron's character :P. I'm so excited for this movie. It will be interesting to see how they pull it off considering the book is huge. I think they will do a good job, though.
I am REALLY excited for the Half-Blood Prince to come out in book stores too. :D So much Harry Potter anticipation.

I actually thought POA was the worst Harry Potter film. Alot of things that didn't make sense or needed to be changed.

1. In the beginning of the movie Harry uses magic out of Hogwarts even though that's strictly prohibited.

2. They wear Muggle clothes most of the time which doesn't make sense either!

3. They swithed Hogwarts too much. It looks messed up when you compare it to the other movies.

4. They made Sirus Black look like a moron! I liked the actor that played him, but he didn't play his part correctly.

5. They didn't explain the twist that well, so at the end when my Dad(who never read the book) saw it, he was compleatly confused. I had to explain everything to him.

6. The ending was rubish. He just flew on a broom and it was over!

7. Not enough Quittich!

8. The animation was pretty horid!

Overall after this one is filmed I hope they stop making the future films because the kids are getting to old for their parts each year and they have trouble finding new directors!

1. If you mean the Lumos Maxima scene, then you're right, but it's unfair to target PoA when SS and CoS also had canon discrepancies. If you mean the Aunt Marge incident...it's in the book...

2. They wear Muggle clothing in the books, too. Rowling is constantly making references to jeans and t-shirts. The aspect was downplayed in the first two films, though if you look closely in them, the kids wear muggle clothing in them quite a bit, too. It's more noticeable in the third because the clothing is more modern.

3. Okay, I'll admit that that bugged me a lot, too. The cheap way to excuse this is simply to say that as a magical school, Hogwarts constantly re-arranges itself.

4. Can't answer this since this depends on each person's vision of Sirius.

5. They explained the twist perfectly fine (minus the Marauders, of course). Remember that when you read this stuff in a novel, you take it in easier because you're reading at your own pace, plus you can choose to re-read a section if you can't believe what you just read. On film it all comes across much more rapidly.

6. I actually totally agree with you on this. The last shot of the film gets on my nerves, though I do like the idea of ending it with Harry flying (just not with a crappy freeze frame of motion blur).

7. Every movie will have the one match that serves the plot the most. This one had the one match that served the plot the most (Harry passing out and getting his broom destroyed).

8. Did we see the same film? Buckbeak, Werewolf Lupin, and the Dementors completely blew away the Mountain Troll and Fluffy (I only target SS because CoS had excellent effects). The CG humans (like Harry on Buckbeak) were much better than the previous CG humans (Neville on his broom from hell).

And the kids are NOT getting too old for their parts. The trio grows in each novel. The real life trio is growing in each film. Right now their ages are only off by 2 years, I believe. Observe (the last half is what I'm predicting based on the pattern thus far):

2001- Philosopher/Sorcerer's Stone
2002- Chamber of Secrets
2003- Break
2004- Prisoner of Azkaban
2005- Goblet of Fire
2006- Break
2007- Order of the Phoenix
2008- Half-Blood Prince
2009- Break
2010- Film Seven

By the end of it all, Emma Watson should be 19, Daniel Radcliffe 20, and Rupert Grint 21. Considering they'd be playing 17-year olds at this stage, the gap isn't so bad at all considering late 20 somethings and even 30 somethings play teens in films and shows all the time.

Awesome! Thanks for the update, Aaron! I'll surely check it out. As far as the conversation on GoF being two parts...they need to make a movie based on the book and not a movie of the book. The movie should only be two parts if each half is signifcantly different and should be two separate movies anyway. Having a Part I and II with a cliff hanger in the middle and probably a month's separation of theatrical release is torturous for people who have and have not read the book.

The picture of Rita and her photographer looks so odd. I thought the photographer was a crewman because he was dressed so modern but Rita and the camera looked so old-fashioned!

NO!!!!!!!!!!!! I was just about top post these. But I guess you beat me to them. The trailer which premiers at 7:00 Saturday on ABC is gonna be awesome!!!! It's actually gonna show more towards 10:00 becuase things like these always show at the end of the program. The trailer is going to be awesome. http://the-leaky-cauldron.org/ confirms that the trailer is going to last a total of 1 minute and 20 seconds. It is also going to premier on the big screen May 13, attatched to Universal's "Kicking and Screaming"!!!!!

And that is an amzing HP site. It is my favorite. They are always so up-to-date and I like the design of it.
