I saw it too...so sad. It almost made me feel guilty for watching and purchasing movies like Rapunzel/Tangled and Wreck-it-Ralph. But the short Paperman which won an oscar recently, might give a new start to an old art form.

I got it on Itunes. It's very interesting, but sad. The first time I saw this, my obsession for Disney making another hand drawn starts to struck me like lightning.

I found this on iTunes for the ridiculous price of £1.50 back in November after watching Waking Sleeping Beauty.
It is indeed very good and worth watching for any Disney Fan. I just wish it had been longer. As mentioned by someone else earlier - it was too quick and seemed to gloss over some bits. The end was quite upsetting. How devastating listening to these very talented artists discuss the end of the Animation studio and seeing those empty desks.
I would love for someone to make an in-depth documentary about 1999 to 2005ish where the 2D films were under performing, disney decided to go with CGI and the end of the Eisner era. Maybe it's too soon.
Whilst I appreciate that covering the 'renissance' period was important as part of the context of the documentary, the bit about the end of the studio was the stuff I really wanted to discover and it felt a bit rushed. The renaissance has been covered in so much media that a post-documentary would be something I would jump at.
I keep meaning to burn this to DVD.

I live in Brazil. I too looked for it for ages. The dvd is just ridiculously too expensive at amazon.com, and that's not even considering shipping costs, and iTunes wouldn't let me download it since I live outside USA. I had to ask a friend to download it, take the DRM out and send me the file. Why they make it so difficult is beyond my comprehension. Since there's no alternative for people outside US, I feel free to upload the video and share it until they fix this problem.
I've also sent an email to Dan Lund and to Itunes support.

I do not own any copyrights. If you have access to the dvd or iTunes version, buy it! Even more to support the people behind this project. Once it becomes available to people outside USA, I intend to take the video out.

HOWEVER, there is at least 2 hours of bonus material which could have extended the documentary by a lot.

That was great. It's so heartbreaking how they are tossing 2D in the trash can because "little boys" and "the public" think 2D is overrated and 3D is cool and hip. Forget the type of animation. Do what's in your heart, not in the $$$. The management really let the Renaissance's success go into their heads

I personally feel that in today's world of entertainment, what the public wants is partially what the studios tell them to want. If kids today feel CG films are better than hand drawn, I'd wager a good part of it is because they have been trained to feel that way and because they don't really know anything else.

Totally agree with it. Anyone who has seen 'Waking Sleeping Beauty' and 'The Sweatbox' besides 'Silly Dreamer' knows for a fact that great part of it is to be blamed on Disney. They started making poor quality direct-to-video sequences. Poor story lines, poor character development, poor drawing quality. In time, traditional animation became stereotyped as being for kids, who wouldn't mind the poor quality stuff. The box office income plummeted. That's only natural; with Pixar and Dreamworks making good movies and Disney making bad movies. But it's easier for the executives to blame the medium than themselves.

They also ruined their last traditional animated movies. I liked Emperor's New Groove. I didn't love it like with Aladdin or Lion King, but I liked it just fine. I thought it was funny, but only the first time. The second time, it was boring. Whereas I still watch those classics today and have a great deal of fun. I liked the Emperor's New Groove, but after watching 'The Sweatbox', I plain hated it, and Disney's executives. Instead of going for something epic, they decided to stick with a risk-free plot line. To know how high the director and writers and animators were aiming and how epic the movie could have been and to know that Disney cut their wings is so frustrating...

That's so true that Disney's first CG movies sucked hard (with the exception of Dinosaur, maybe). Can anyone say "Chicken Little"? There was an issue with the creative department. And now that they murdered hand-drawn animation themselves, they blame the medium saying it's outdated, bah!

I think 'Princess and the Frog' didn't do so well because people don't believe in traditional animation anymore. But if Disney insisted on it with Tangled and Frozen instead of adopting CG, I think they could've revived it. Instead, they've become just another CG studio.
