Ooh, very nice cover art for both editions. The picture on the front of the 4-Discer could stand to be a little bigger, though.

I have to say...with the history behind it all...you'd think they'd pay a little more respect to the actual disaster and perhaps keep solely the ship on the cover rather than allowing two FICTIONAL lovestruck teenagers take up 2/3 of the cover. It is after all called "TITANIC", not "JACK AND ROSE: A LOVE STORY (whilst on a Boat that will Sink and Kill People)".
But yeah, the cover art is nice for what it is. And they did capture Kate Winslet's red hair very well in the picture. Wodnering though...where's Paramount's logo? Or is this just the coverart for the 20th Century Fox international release?

I think I read that this was being distributed domestically by Fox too (in this thread, actually). I don't know the situation with the movie... do the two studios share domestic distribution rights?Escapay wrote:Wodnering though...where's Paramount's logo? The forum on the site ZOOMBOOM0688 linked to are saying this is the Region 2 artwork. Paramount is responsible for the release in Region 1, Fox in Europe, so it may be.awallaceunc wrote:I think I read that this was being distributed domestically by Fox too (in this thread, actually). Well I went back and looked at the beginning of this thread, and it was Jack who said that the Digital Bits was the one indicating that Fox would be releasing this domestically too... then if you look at DVDAnswers for the cover art, you'll see that it's the Digital Bits (not Fox or Paramount) that sent it to them... so yes, it may very well be the R2 art, and the Digital Bits is once again confusing everyone with assumptions.

One of the sites is confused, Digital Bits say on their website
Maybe their retail source in Europe confirmed that Paramount are doing the USA release and DigitalBits' earlier news on Fox doing both was just rumour. From retail sources in Europe, we bring you a sneak peek at the cover artwork for both the 2-disc and 4-disc versions of Paramount's Titanic: Special Collector's Edition, tentatively due on 10/18. Keep in mind, this is early international art (note the Fox logo). The U.S. domestic release will be from Paramount, and the final cover art could (and probably will) differ.

Hmm... very nice.
It's kinda tainted by the fact that this is the international art, and the U.S. box will probably be inferior to some degree, but at least it's purty to look at.
I actually rather like the leatherette look of the whole slipcase - it reminds me of the Lord of the Rings Extended Editions. It is annoying that the art itself has the "floating heads syndrome," but otherwise it's fairly nice. The only qualm I have is with the "4 Disc Set" icon on the bottom... it looks kinda tacky. O_o
Ah, well. I'm starting to get out of my "DVD xenophobia" anyways - I'm not limiting myself to Region 1 discs anymore. I'll probably get this edition because of the superiority of the PAL playback - as well as the purty cover art!

Life often leaves us standing bare, naked and dejected with a lost opportunity. Over the bleached bones and jumbled residues of numerous civilizations are written the pathetic words: "Too late."

Fox, which has the distribution rights for the film everywhere in the world except the USA (and possibly Canada), handled the PRODUCTION of the disc. However, Paramount will be releasing it stateside as they retain domestic distribution rights; they just didn't have a hand in creating the extras for it and whatnot.

Well, even though I can't stand this movie, I do think that it's about time it did come out in a special edition. But why 4 discs? The movie's less than 4 hours long, right? People would love it if they didn't have to switch discs to watch the whole movie.

Movies as long as Titanic are split into two discs so there's more space on the DVD-ROM for better picture and audio quality. If you cram a whole 3+ hour movie into one disc, it's going to suffer. Take the Beauty and the Beast DVD for example, they included 3 versions of the film in Disc 1, and the image suffered with lots of problems. So Titanic will benefit from this, just the like Lord of the Rings: Extended Editions.anger is pointless wrote:why is the movies gonna be on two dvds
