Sounds cool, but im so curious to how it'd be tackled without seeming cheesy, i.e water, no talking. I have images of blue crepe paper!

Oh no! Another Disney musical. :o In New York City, we got three Disney Broadway shows like "Beauty and the Beast", "The Lion King" and "Aida". Is "The Little Mermaid" considered to be a musical?

Hey, Mermaid Kelly. I was about to contact you to let you know that I've been in KB Toys and I've seen something I'm sure you'll be interested on: a Little Mermaid Motion Lamp.

Take a look:

Yes, it is. Disney is asking Alan Menken to contribute more songs to complete the book. If just the original songs were to remain, the music and lyrics would be pretty sparse.

Personally, I'm really worried about how Tarzan and The Little Mermaid will turn out. Not that I don't like the movies, but I think both are too ambitious to bring to the stage. I mean, they goofed up with Beauty and the Beast, and that story took place in a castle! Honestly, stage productions are heavily dependent on the director. Disney will need a true visionary such as Julie Taymor who anchored the phenomonal stage version of The Lion King, a very hard endeavor if I may say so myself. I wouldn't have minded if they came up with an original musical, because I think it's about time.

Yeah, I was just reading something about the development of Tarzan for the stage. Duing the developmental stages, nobody was terribly happy with the ending - because it was too neat, too predictable. She stays with Tarzan in the jungle.

A few people (including Eisner when he was still around, if I'm not mistaken) wanted to take more of an Edgar Rice Burroughs approach. Maybe have Tarzan return to civilization and have a few musical numbers there, something like that. However, I've not heard much since then, so it will be interesting to see how it turns out.

I foolishly chose not to see Lion King when it toured here, and now I regret it. (I did see the Aladdin 40 minute live action thing in DCA, and that was a huge spectacle!).

Post by Fidget1234 »

So I guess the musical is now a-go (not sure if for Broadway or theme-parks) & there is already a soundtrack out & someone on myspace has posted a song from the soundtrack.

I dont know where u can get the soundtrack-i think its not on the shelves yet-maybe at the theme-parks...- but im gonna try to work my magic & get one asap.

Here is the link to the page & listen to the song "If Only"- it's wicked pretty...

First, the link works, just get rid of the "[/url]" at the end.

and secondly, this is probably the Broadway version, that may be preforming in small theaters. I'm pretty sure that with TLK on Broadway, they did productions in Florida (I think it was either Miami or Tampa), and other large cities before becoming a full-blown Broadway play...I think that this is at it's early stages, but hey, you never know.

I also heard that Aladdin is going to become a Broadway play as well. I don't really remember, but one is slated for 2007 and the other 2008 openings...

To be honest, I can't WAIT to see TLM or Aladdin on Broadway. I have seen TLK, and it was AMAZING!

Listen to demo songs from The Little Mermaid musical!

Post by Disney Duster »

Don't worry, Fidget1234! You don't have to search for the soundtrack! I know for sure that The Little Mermaid will be a musical on Broadway, with new songs by Alan Menken. Very recently, a costume/movement lab for the musical occured in London. I don't know what a costume or movement lab is, but it sounds like a workshop where they see what costumes and choreography works best.

I do not know who will be cast for what part, but some singers have created demo recordings of the songs from the musical.

To listen to the new songs, go to the Web site I posted below, and click on a song you want to listen to. Then, scroll all the way down and click on "play" or "download", whichever you want to do. Then enjoy the song, and remember that the person singing the song you listen to will probably not be the person who sings it in the musical on Broadway. This is a demo recording, and it will sound different in the final recording.

Here is the Web site for The Little Mermaid musical demo recordings:

Yeah i heard about them making it into a show in the art of walt disney book but i didnt know that the would make it so soon.Wow thats pretty amazing how many shows theyll eventually have on broadway, and TLM will probably be one of the best. Neat the gril that sings ariels part sounds alot like jodie benson.

If I were marketing this show I'd plug it as:

"All redheads! All live! All wet!"

Did I say that or think that?
