No that was made up as they couldn't do the squirrel room in the 70's.
In the book there are 100's of trained squirrels who tap walnuts to see if they are good then perfectly crack it to put the nut into walnut whips. Veruca demands one of them.
So glad they've done it.
well I have read the book many times and I cant remember that geuss at 13 your memory isn’t what it used to be :P

Bumping this thread up to note that the full trailer has been released and can be found on MovieFone here.

Johnny Depp seems very bizarre in this, perhaps even too bizarre. In the book, Willy Wonka had more of a reserved type of nuttiness, much like how Gene Wilder played him in the 1971 film. Still, this should make for interesting viewing. The set design looks amazing, and all of the kids seem perfect in their roles. I'm very much looking forward to this. :D

The set design does look interesting, as does applying Tim Burton's unique modern styles to the source material. And Freddie Highmore seems well cast for the title role. But other than that, this doesn't sell me. If this trailer is indicative of the movie, then Johnny Depp is playing Wonka as an androgynous mental patient. That's...different...for a "family film", but not a really compelling reading of the book. What this trailer did make me want to see was the 1971 film. Boy, that one is simple stylistically, but it has charm rarely matched. Haven't watched it in too long.

Anyone else notice that it's rated PG for "Quirky Situations, Action and Mild Violence"?

Thanks for posting, DK! Johnny does seem to be portraying a very strange Willy Wonka, but it looks like it could fall on the side of eccentricity rather than absurdity, which is what I'm hoping for.

Also, the poster is now out (I haven't seen it before now, so I'm guessing it's new): http://movies.channel.aol.com/movie/main.adp?mid=18648

I'm not sure what to make of the potrayal of Wonka, even though I'm a huge Johnny Depp fan. I love the original film (just watched it again last week) and it might be hard to warm up to a new take on it. I think it'll be good, though. I can't wait.

I remembered a couple years ago when they first started working on this movie and they were looking for the actor to play Willy Wonka. At first, they thought about Willy Wonka being played by Nicolas Cage or Robin Williams (I guess this came from the fact that Robin was in Death to Smoochy and sometimes I could imagine Robin being Wonka). Soon Tim Burton was announced the director and after Johnny's sucess from recent films like Pirates and Secret Window, he was chossen to play Willy Wonka so the movie would attract more people than just little kids. But by the looks of this film, I wouldn't mind seeing it, but only when it comes out to DVD.

You can read the book online. :) (But nothing beats reading it in its original form -- on paper.)

BTW, I can't wait for this movie to come out. I liked the 1971 version, and judging from the recently released trailer, I'm already liking the new version as well.

The 1971 version of Willy Wonka is one of my favorite films.. I just loved everything about it... It is one of those movies u can enjoy 50 yrs from now like some disney flicks (bambi, beauty an the beast)

When I heard the started makin a willy wonk movie i was very excited... this movie was bein talked bout for a while.... Im Not Sure If Im Write But I think Tim Burton decided to direct the movie first... but for wonka he thought that marlon maison or ozzy osbourne would be good... I didnt like that atall.... then they thought of nicholas cage... hes a good actor but hes not that funny... robbin williams would have been very good imho... then round 2003-4 after the sucess of pirates johnny depp was picked

around december 0f 04 I saw the teaser online.... I LOVED it.. i thought that it was a different type of wonka so i liked that.. the song was funny, an everything was colorful... so after me an my friend saw the teaser we were relle excited

But yesterday i saw the new trailer....i didnt relle like it... sure it looks alright but i think its going to be very dissapointing First i think this movie actually look relle creepy... depp sounds like a girl an the movie just looks dark it relle doesnt look funny I kno its stayin tru to the book but the book is one of my favorites.

Overall Ill be there july 15th to see the movie but now im not as excited as i was... here was originally my top films to see in 05

1. Harry potter 4
2. Episode 3 (amazing movie)
3. Willy Wonka
4. Madagascar
5. Batman Begins
6. War Of The Worlds
7. Chronicles Of Narnia
8. Fantastic 4
9. King Kong
10. Cinderella man

Now This is what it looks like
1. Potter 4
2. War Of The Worlds
3, Madagascar
4. Batman Begins
5. Cinderella Man
6. Fantastic 4
7. Chronicles Of Narnia
8. King Kong
9. [/b]Willy Wonka

So relle It used to be 3 But It Moved I thinkj I Will Like It But idk
