Dave Bossert (the guy largely responsible for putting these sets together) said that as far as he knows Roy's signature will be on this new wave of Treasures. Of course that is very subject to change.

And why should they include Roy's signiture? He doesn't work for Disney anymore, and I doubt he will have had much input into Wave 4 of the Treasures, not even as a consultant.

There could be a legal reason for his name being dropped (if indeed it is) - he would after all be "endorsing" a product without any basis.

Well I wouldn't go so far as to say it'd be without basis as the Treasures were his project. To be fair, both Leonard Maltin and himself were most responsible for bringing these to fruition and I can't see how his severed ties with Disney or contentions with Eisner would effect relationships with folks like Maltin and company. I'm not sure what his involvement with these, if any, would be - but I'm sure legalities are the least in question. I don't think it would be much of a publicity push for his promotional agenda either. Roy's endorsement does still pose signifigance, as is evident by the devotion and following he's recieved in the months past with his anti-Eisner campaign and Save Disney movement. He's still very much a voice for Disney, in a somewhat ironic sense. I don't really know or care much whether or not his signature will be present on the upcomign wave, but I would bet that if it held merit, arrangements would not be above either parties.

I think I will get all three sets. Anyone know why we didn't get a fourth set this time? Maybe they will start doing them twice a year, once in December, once in May?

It also seems strange to do a treasures set on only the first week's worth of MMC episodes. I grew up watching the show, in reruns of course, and I really enjoyed it. Until they took it off and replaced it with that 1970's version, which wasn't as good. Maybe Walt was on all the first week's episodes?

I never saw the show. Can anyone sort of explain it to me. Is it just a bunch of complete geeks with Mickey ears and crappy sweaters singing "Mickey I love you" or is it alot more? (thats the impression I got from the stills)

It's very much like a Disney-themed All That or RoundHouse. I can assure you Disney did not produce a lengthy series of useless, boring material that wound up being successful anyways. As Christian said, it is a variety show. It is also a very important piece of Disney history. Isn't that what the Treasures are all about? Owning rare-until-now, vital pieces to Walt-era Disney history?

I didn't even know about it until the 1970's version started and somebody said, "Oh, they used to do that back in the 1950's."

I've never seen anything from the '70s. I've seen little snippets of the '50s version here and there. Of course, I grew up on the '90s version. I'd love a "Best Of" release of the 90s MMC and Emerald Cove.

Ok, well all of these shows are variety shows. Have you seen Saturday Night Live? It's sort of like that, for kids. Another good example is Howdy Doody, if you've seen that, or The Amanda Show. There are skits, songs, mini-plot series, games, comedy routines, cartoon shorts, etc. I don't know about the particular episodes on this set, but there are also often appearances by special guests and/or performers.

TVTome has an excellent description and some stills from the series. Also, you can click on episode guide and see the name of each themed-day (which repeated each week) in the order they appeared in the first week.

Come on everyone....

Who's the leader of the.....

They were still showing reruns in the early 70s when I was a kid on an independant channel when suddenly it was replaced by the nowhere near as good 70s version. All I remember from that is the kids running towards the hot air balloon in the opening.

And dont forget.....Annette. Although in 1955 she is still too young. Give us something from around 57 or 58. Annette. (sigh) Just kept getting bigger and bigger....Oh sorry, there are kids in the audience arent there.

So, what happen to the original Mouseketeers?
Tommy Kirk is the most popular from the series I guess.

MMP - I would say in no uncertain terms that Annette was far and away the most popular. Jimmy whats his name was probably the second most popular from my recollection. Disney managed to spin Annette off into singing careers and movies. My recollection is Tommy Kirk wasnt one of the more popular ones at all. However, he certainly was far and away the best actor of the lot. In fact he only lasted one season because he had more value as an actor in such vehicles as Swiss Family Robinson and the like.

No, they released approximately half of the Black and White Mickey shorts on Vol 1.

See http://www.bcdb.com/cartoons/Walt_Disne ... index.html for a list of all Mickey Mouse title-card cartoons, to see what's missing.

Maybe i wasn't clear what i meant was i thought there were only 3 shorts released in the year 1928 'steamboat willie' gallopin gaucho' and 'plane crazy'. all of which are on mickey mouse in black and white volume 1. so why does volume 2 say 1928-1935 if all of the shorts from 1928 were on the other volume?
