Friendly reminder to everyone to avoid political talk unrelated to Disney in this section of the forum. If you wish to talk politics in general or current events, you can use the Election Day 2024 thread or create a new one in the Off-Topic section. Thank you.
Shouldn’t this entire thread move there then? Why even allow it in the first place?
The moment someone mentions woke it’s kinda over for non-political talk lol

I just hope that my feelings about this matter were clear and that I don't have any malicious intent.
It's all good, no worries at all . I don't think there ever was any malice or hostility from you. We're all here to have a constructive conversation and share perspectives.

Saying "I think this movie was bad" vs. "Well, I thought it was amazing," or "The costumes were gorgeous" vs. "Those were the cheapest costumes I've ever seen" are examples of differing opinions. But complaining that movies today are awful simply because studios are giving more visibility to underrepresented groups — which, apparently, impacts the quality and historical accuracy (a laughable claim) of fantasy family films — and suggesting that gutting "wokeism"/DEIA will somehow restore an entertainment utopia, is pure bigotry. This is especially true when the ones doing the gutting are taking the page out of the Nazi playbook.
What makes all this even more discouraging is hearing it from gay men and women, who not even 30 years ago were fighting for non-stereotypical representation in mainstream media themselves.
Oh yeah, who ARE these guys and what the heck are they doing bringing such ghastly topics into these threads? I find their comments disgusting.
It’s the same person repeatedly making new accounts (thedisneyspirit, Lavendergolden, Ameneth) and trolling the boards. You can tell by their posting history and writing style. It's hard to tell how much of what they write they actually believe and how much is just meant to provoke others.
Thank you for existing
I think we are the only two leftists in this forum

Agreed, this topic cant exist without allowing some amount of political discourse. I get stepping in when things go over the line, but this topis is political by default.
The plight of systemically oppressed groups is absolutely a key thread within the Disney culture and those who have participated in it. People who imagine that Disney just walked up to the big kid’s table one day trying to show off how many adult words he knew, they show a supreme lack of curiosity for the place Disney has had in the hearts of people who feel marginalized.
What we see is that outside critics will show a vested interest in Disney trying to be socially savvy so long as there is some kind of attempt at atonement for perceived transgressions–e.g. admitting that older princesses were rather regressive. But couch that in some other social imperative, as Snow White did, and this game just stops being fun. The alt-right probably never would have even gone for Rachel Zegler if they could have anticipated how their liberal cousins would just tune out the Snow White project.
The wider failure of a movie no one was asking for and no one wanted was all attributed to the actions of one girl. But when you look at the fanbase that had historically shown up for the Disney remakes and why they chose not to show up for Snow White, the disaster can more or less be summed up with one major mistake: Disney needlessly put itself and its own history in competition with displays of social progression, believing that if they just said the right things, their detractors would ever show up for them.
The first one talks a lot about Walt Disney and Howard Ashman. The second deals mostly with Disney's 21st century culture wars, especially the Little Mermaid and Snow White remakes.
