Mulan 2-Disc announced for October
Dunno if it's still relevant, but I still see the paragraph at DVDFile. I think the reason it kept disappearing was because it was being edited. When I read it last night, DVDFile had wrongly said that this was Mulan's DVD premiere. I'm guessing they realized their mistake because now it mentions the fact that it used to be a barebones disc. I'm really really hoping this is true...

It all makes since again.
I hope it's not a rumor!
Yes, it does make sense since Mulan 2 is coming out on DVD in September. I guess Disney wants to remind people how good the first Mulan was and to make them buy it on DVD 2 Disc. But it's not impossible (and it seems like its the logical time to re-release Mulan).
It all makes since again.
I hope it's not a rumor!

I really hope this is true. Mulan is one of the top movies I have been wanting on a 2-disc DVD. Now all I need to complete some of my top favorites are Hunchback, Hercules, and The Little Mermaid.
Also, animated-news.com has posted the same story about the dvd with a link to the DVDfile website.
Lets hope...

I hope this is true! I really do! I have never seen this movie and have been trying to win it on ebay for the past couple months. This comes at a great time for I was about to raise my usual high bid of 45 to 55 to get one for sure. Thanks for posting Loomis!

I will definitely buy this one.. I actually got the barebones one a few years ago, but would like to see the extras and everything else they may put on...Call me a sucker to see the previews of other movies coming out on Disney DVD too...
Not sure how good Mulan II is supposed to be...But I actually liked LK 1 1/2, so hopefully it will be good! (Yes, I am sure I will buy it too...)

"If it is true, this probably means that Disney, and others, have knowledge that HD DVD is probably arriving sooner than expected. That would be my guess."
I highly doubt this is the reason... people aren't going to run out and get HD-DVD just for the sake of it. The advantages it offers over regular DVD is minimal compared to what DVD offerred over VHS and DVD still took a decade to become the defacto standard. I imagine the primary reason why Disney is re-releasing it is for financial gain. People will buy Mulan 2 much more readily if they will be collecting a set. Another reason why Disney is re-releasing Mulan is because the version they had released was extremely poor and even owners of the original are looking to get a better version. Finally, I imagine that because it is a relatively recent film, there are plenty of special features available for their use and very little cost in restoring the movie.

Well if this is indeed true, then it certainly is wonderful news...
However, I highly doubt that it is, and I am shocked that so many of you are just excepting this as fact!
First off, it makes a lot more sense that there was a mix up somewhere, and that wherever dvdfile got this info, probably meant Mulan 2, hence why the original announcement said dvd debut, or "for the first time on DVD" or whatever...
Second, even if this is straight from the horse's mouth, meaning Disney, why do you all think it is really going to happen? I don't think Disney knows how to release a DVD on time, are we all forgeting about how Lilo and Stitch and Pocahontas were pushed back to god knows when, and they were actually advertised as "Coming in 2004" in the TLK advertisement book!!!!!
So even if this is legit don't believe it till you see it on the store shelves cause as we all know Disney will even change a release date 2 weeks before it's suppose to hit shelves!
It also really annoy's me how flakey some people are on this board, cause a couple months back I made a post (before getting my boxset w/ the Tarzan CE) saying that I thought the Tarzan CE should be rereleased, along with a new 2 disc CE of Mulan and yet sooo many people strongly felt that "it was too soon". I think I even had a poll going and the majority of the people voted that they SHOULD NOT be rereleased for 2004/2005 cause that would be too soon! I could not believe it, I mean I understood that maybe some people already had their copies and maybe it wasn't a priority of theirs to upgrade right away, but to actually say they should not be released for the people who missed out the first time!?! Anyway, and now only a couple months later everyone is getting so damn excited over an unconfirmed rumor about Mulan being rereleased!
Well, anyway, we'll see what happens...
Like I said earlier I would personally love to see a 2 disc set of Mulan by the end of the year, this just doesn't seem real to me and I don't want to get my hopes up only to have them smashed when this release doesn't see the light of day...
and I can't believe Chernobog is looking forward to this more than Aladdin!!!!! What is up with that!?
Edited to say, that the link works for me as well.

Well, I was one of the people who said that in the thread, but I was referring to Tarzan, NOT Mulan. Mulan's SE is overdue, IMO (the DVD came out about 6 years ago!), but I felt a reissue of the Tarzan CE needed to wait at least a year (and we probably will. I suspect the CE will be reissued next year to promote the sequel). And can't you just have SOME sort of ray of hope?Prince Phillip wrote: It also really annoy's me how flakey some people are on this board, cause a couple months back I made a post (before getting my boxset w/ the Tarzan CE) saying that I thought the Tarzan CE should be rereleased, along with a new 2 disc CE of Mulan and yet sooo many people strongly felt that "it was too soon". Gasp! I'm offended there was ever any doubtMickeyMouseboy wrote:cool Loomis wasn't lying! Another thing to add to my list of upgrades! i'm glad i get to replace my limited ed.
Seriously, I AM glad it wasn't a mistake. I have been considering eBaying this title for a while now, but there is a minefield of bootlegs surrounding it, so have avoided.
Will be very pleased to see it, as a 2-disc no less!
Although, this year HAS become replacement year: Alice in Wonderland; Pocahontas; Princess Diaries; Mary Poppins and now Mulan. Next year will see Lilo and Stitch replacement. Part of me is pleased to pick up better copies of those films I DON'T have, but the other half (the obsessive collector with no money) is a little annoyed

If this is true, I absolutely cannot wait!
Like I've said before, I adore the 8 "Broadway-style" musicals of the past decade. I could definately see this rumor as a possibilty. I mean, it makes sense to promote the sequel? As for why they are releasing it? My guess is as good as anyone else's. Anyway, my theory is that those recent movies that I love are also the most lucrative for the company. Besides, Disney is already three years into releasing supposed definative editions of their classics, and they still have only released two of the eight contemporary musicals. One of them was bound to come up sooner or later. Personally, this is a greatly anticipated release, since it ranks in my top-10. To be honest, I want this one more than those other dissapointing "H" movies, financially speaking.

Re: Mulan 2-Disc announced for October
I finally get a chance to return to the forums after a loooonnngg week of school and this lovely little thread appears!
I certainly hope that the rumors are true! I don't care about the extras, I just love the movie by itself!!!!! I've been wanting this DVD ever since I lost the chance to get it for $11.99 at Sam's Club! (We didn't own a DVD player then so I didn't get it...)

Most likely, since really little kids probably have never seen the first one. Yep 1998/1999 was a long time ago!! About 6 years!!toonaspie wrote: WAIT A MINUTE! I think this is to promote the video sequel due out around the same time aint it?!
You think they're maarketing them together to aim at the minority ethnic group consumers?Streeting on October 26th, the studio will heavily market the title along with their upcoming Platinum Edition of Aladdin.
I vaguely remember that thread, and I also remember the main gist of what was thought to be released too soon would be a second Tarzan CE release. I in no way think it's too soon for a Mulan 2-disc to be released. Like Disneykid said, it's been around 6 years since it was first released anyway, unlike Tarzan which has only been around for about 4 years (I think??).Disneykid wrote:Well, I was one of the people who said that in the thread, but I was referring to Tarzan, NOT Mulan. If it's true...great. I'll certainly add it to our collection since I know my daughter loves this one (watched it on G'ma and Pop-Pop's VHS copy).
However I'm becoming increasingly more annoyed with the fact that all these titles keep popping up in the release schedule yet the previously announced Lilo and Stitch and Pocahontas Special Editions just keep getting pushed aside. I'm amazed at the marketing dollars that have been wasted thus far on titles we have yet to see.

Well at least Disney is realizing that cheapsequels won't sell as good as the re-relase of animated classics.
I do feel sad that Pocahontas and Lilo and Stitch was push aside but both are not that good and have better features then Mulan does(LE and CE).
Next I hope Diseny re-relases Tarzan along with Tarzan 2.
That would be so great. Then I only have to get the Platium series line up.

Mostly I disagree. With HD DVD, this give Disney the chance to, now, roll out a new DVD of, say, Mulan, and then the three years, roll out Mulan available for the First Time Ever on HD DVD, at which time it will be rereleased on standard DVD. I think you are significantly under estimating the "colectors" market out there for such items. If Disney sells--I don't know--10 Million Copies of Mulan this fall, then no, they won't sell another 10 Million copies in HD DVD. OK, so 10M X $14, which is about what Disney takes on these sets, is $140 million. Plus significant merchandising income, which may equal or exceed the $140 M. OK, so on a re-release in HD DVD, let's say that out of the 10 Million owners, there are 3 Million who wish to upgrade. OK, that's 3M x $14, or $52 Million, plus another 2 Million who wish to buy newly reissued regular DVD, add on $28M. Ok, that's $70 Million total.slash wrote:"If it is true, this probably means that Disney, and others, have knowledge that HD DVD is probably arriving sooner than expected. That would be my guess."

I would think that this would be part of the larger push, to get all important Disney media released in original DVD, before HD DVD gets on the market. That extra $52 Million for simply a new format is substantial!
