The Muppets (2011)

Well, i was a big fan of the Muppets when I was a kid. The last Muppet movie that I really loved was The Muppet Christmas Carol. I still watch that one often.

I enjoyed Muppets From Space, but it had enough of the innuendo and stuff that annoys me enough about the Muppets for it not to become a favorite.

I wish that they could go back to the comedy and style of storytelling from back in the Muppet Movie/Muppet Caper era, but maybe that style has died away too much along with the extinct variety shows and related humor. Now everything has got to be edgy and sex-implied.

Hopefully this movie will fix what I think is wrong with the muppets, but for now, i clearly separate my muppet fandom back to the early years and most of the stuff from the 90's on I don't really get into.

Just my 2¢. I am hopeful though.

I was never a Muppet fan altho I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE Miss Piggy. She cracks me the heck up. The only Muppet movie I watch is The Muppets Christmas Carol each and every year around Christmas time. Its brilliant!

This one sounds promising actually and I cant wait to hear more about it but I have a feeling we will be waiting for this one for a while.......

I love the Muppets, and can't for this movie. Though one thing that really bugs me is that the voices are really off in some cases. There was one television appearance where Miss Piggy was on The View (yes it's on YouTube

), and she really didn't sound like herself. But aside from the seemingly altered voices - still can't wait.

The Muppets set for a Christmas 2011 releaseIt seems that we'll be seeing a new incarnation of some famous puppets in theaters during the holidays next year. eRc Box Office is reporting that Walt Disney Pictures has slated The Muppets for release on December 25, 2011.

That's an awfully big day to release this. I guess it's good that Disney'll really get behind it. But I wonder if the Muppets' present popularity is befitting of the year's biggest release date. This also means competing against the Chipmunks, opening nine days earlier. In any event, I think I know my most anticipated film of next year. (And please let the 3D fad have cooled off by then.)

I think it's a very good thing that they asked for Pixar's input for the new Muppet movie, considering Pixar's expertise at creating heartfelt, character-driven stories.

They clearly want to make sure that the new Muppet film does as well as possible.

Yes I don't see it a "Taking Advantage" either. Would you rather a movie made to it's full potential with loads of input. Or a very quiet movie where It goes by one persons Idea?

Why the heck not? They should never pass up the chance to get advise from other qualified film makers. Taking advantage in this context isn't like trying to get a drunk girl to kiss you (trying keep this PG here), its using the resources they have access to to make their movies better.

According to EW, negotiations for Muppets appear to be the most solid, but Disney isn’t commenting. We don’t know much about the Muppet movie. We know that Jason Segel co-wrote the script and will star and that the title is rumored to be The Greatest Muppet Movie Ever Made. Co-writer Nicholas Stoller told Steve back in May that there are tons of cameos, it will be similar in tone to The Muppet Movie, and that the movie breaks the fourth wall every five minutes.

Just a day or two ago, I took an online survey at BigSpot that turned out to be about the Muppet movie. It gave a lot of plot info and asked a lot of weird questions, including giving me some celebs to select from, asking whom I would most like to see do a CAMEO in the movie. Amy Adams was among them, and she was one of my choices. I forget the other one or the other options. In general, I can't say if the movie will be good or not, but I can say the plot sounded like another Blues Brothers rehash. Maybe the plot is old news already, I haven't been following closely, but it seems they are encouraged by their biggest fan to "get the gang back together" (which involves world travel to collect them) in order to put on a last performance to save their studio. Didn't they do a save the theater bit already for Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie? Anyway, I hope this comes out better than the Country Bears, in which the Blues Brothers rehash was totally the wrong approach (but a lot about that film was the wrong approach, and it should have been animated). Anyway, throughout the survey I just tried to be very supportive at the idea of bringing the Muppets back, saying that I hope they work hard to do this well...

They also kept asking me how I felt about what's his name from Forgetting Sarah Marshall being in and behind this production. What could I say except anyone new is worth a try right now, ha. What they've been doing hasn't bee going well. I mentioned how they screwed up Muppet Wizard of Oz, though not in detail, ha. That one should have been an easy A.

Ouch, if I was Disney I would have my pride pinched that they need Pixar to review scripts for nonPixar movies.

Not only have the Muppets done a "saving the theater plot", they've already done a "getting the gang back together" plot somewhat in Muppets in Manhatten.

Also...and this may come off a bit controversial but these are my thoughts. I really hate the type of celebrities that they're adding to the Muppets these days. I know that celebrities are staples to the Muppets in both TV and films but it seems theyre just letting anybody the least bit appealling to adults be featured with the Muppets. Back in the late 70s early 80s, they did add celebrities but they played significant or memorable roles that added more to the film. The celebrities they add these days are just market value that's not going to last IMO.

And I dunno what is so significant or appealling about the film being done by the producers of Forgetting Sarah Marshall. In fact I think most of the Muppets stuff I've seen these days have become too much for adults ...not that I have anything against it but people tend to forget that the Muppets is a family thing. Not adult or kid exclusive.
