Been following this thread since the beginning but never commented.

The only thing I can think of when looking at the film's title is the cheesy stink of dingy, filthy sneakers worn by a not insignificant percentage of adolescent boys and grown men. :P

Sorry, Disney.

The part where the camera turns upside down and right side up again was cool. That's it.

This was a lot better than I expected. Of course, my expectations were in the sewer, so... I thought it was about as good as a Disney Channel Movie would be. The worst part was the ending where they resolved everything with a rap. The best parts were the actress who played the love interest, and the stepbrothers' song. The music was sort of meh overall, the only other one I liked much besides the stepbrothers song that made me laugh was the one where El was singing about how NY is the "best ever." I was sort of surprised when "A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes" started because I didn't think they were drawing on the animated Cinderella at all. I also felt like this film drew on TP&TF and Aladdin a little, too, tbh. The scenes where El remembers his mother midway through the film made me tear up a little, but his desire to keep her dream going via a shoe shop reminded me of Tiana keeping her father alive through their dream of the restaurant. That and the whole "You lied to me" plot that came from a mile away was similar to Aladdin--Aladdin's story being a bit of a male Cinderella anyway.

While on the one hand I was glad the stepfather was barely in this because the actor was bad (and I mean, how much of an evil Stepfather could he be if he's paying for El to have a cellphone... ), on the other hand, I hate seeing Disney trying to erase villains from fairy tales at this point just because they're too incompetent to be able to pull them off in their new movies.

I agree with a lot of what you said. It was really about on the level of most Disney Channel movies. Some ok drama, but nothing to keep re-watching much unless it has something you really like (like how I love witches, magic, and Halloween so I love all the Halloweentowns). The music was ok. I really did like that "Better" song, and the one Kira sang about finding her "prince". I liked that it had magic, but it made no sense that El had to leave at midnight because...well, it didn't seem there was a reason! Just so his car didn't get towed? It did anyway! If he had stayed dry couldn't he have gone back to the party?! I also liked the stepbrothers. The dumb one was so cute, he would be fun to date I'm sure. I actually liked that the "smart" one seemed to have to do business, as did the stepfather, and that's why they heaped all the work on this Cinderella. I also like the stepbrothers being the ones to ruin this Cinderella's chance at a happy ending (even though it's not the first Cinderella film where something like that happened). I actually also liked the stepfather, because he seemed to me to be a more realistic evil stepparent than usual. He seemed to have more reason why he was how he was and I didn't mind the redemption. Kira was probably my favorite character. I just liked her. Very interesting princess charming. I loved that she realized she had done wrong as well. Really made her interesing.
