Best 2 to buy

Post by deadstone »

impossible to choose 2...

you'll only end up hating yourself and setting yourself up for brutal self-recrimination in later years...not to mention the deprived family members crying why why why...

I say buy the best three:

Micky Mouse in Living Color 2
On The Front Lines
The Chronological Donald...

I'd like to emphasize: these are NOT in order !!!

enjoy

Apart from that, I think this must be close to the best value-for-money ever from Disney.
If you look at some of the DVD collections from the "kids" on this board, I would think that they have an easier time getting ahold of a hundred bucks to buy these sets at once, that I do a 25 year old soon to be parent with a house payment, car payment, and all the other bills that there are.
Speaking as one of these "kids" (well, 18, call it want you want :P)... Sometimes we have $$ in abundance... but then it disappears by the next day, and you're like, "Huh?? WTF?" My DVD collection is around the 200-ish mark, and I know people both younger and older than me, some who envy mine, and other's who boast collections that dwarf mine. Go figure.

Is an 18-year-old a kid? Maybe, maybe not. Then there's this thing about money being gone by the next day for no apparent reason...

There are lots of reasons why money disappears. No need to point that out, neither to "kids" nor to those struggling with the responsibilities of just having bought a house and a car...

But I guess my ultimate point is that anyone who knew about the WDT sets six months ago and wanted them could easily have been able to come up with the money necessary to buy them by now. Those who really couldn't probably shouldn't own a DVD player in the first place.

Lars, I agree. I've been sort of noncommital over the Treasures sets (tins or no tins, etc) so never saved up. And there's my problem. :)

I'm not being "irresponsible" in my Treasures buying, LOL.
The reason I'm contemplating which of this batch of Treasures to buy is that I'm in Ireland and I've been waiting for the Region 2 releases. MM in Living Color and Silly Symphonies just came out. Content (as far as I know) is identical, but the R2 tins are really crappy, very lightweight. Also they are extremely oversized, so much so that they literally wouldn't fit on my DVD shelving!!

Also, by way of introduction, I'm no kid either. In fact I'm a 31 year old father of 2 small boys (one just a newborn) and coincidentally am also just about to move house, hence money being just a little tight this month!

I have no problem with the price and I think for what you get they are INCREDIBLE value for money. Basically I want to ensure that I don't miss out on any of the 4 new releases so I was really asking people's ideas on the best buying strategy, ie which 2 are likely to sell out quickest.

I think history has shown that the animation discs are the most popular, and Mickey is the most popular character.

Since the numbers are different now, we pretty much know the order of popularity.

1) On the Front Lines
2) Mickey
3) Donald
4) Future

I think that's the order you'll see them disappear in the months ahead. So, you really want to get the most popular two first, as the other two will still be around when you want to get them.

On the contrary, I'd think that the Mickey and Donald sets are the most popular. From the orders placed through this site, I'd say the first three are all about equally popular, and Tomorrowland is slightly less. So, if there's 75,000 more printed of On the Front Lines, that one may stick around the longest. But then, from the popularity of these sets overall, I tend to think none of them may stick around too long.

And then there's a really low number of Tomorrowland sets, so even if it's the least popular, proportionally speaking, it could sell out the faster.

actually you should get a loan from the bank and get all four, you will regret if you don't once you see them on e-bay for triple the price. I am regretting now.
True it is best to get them all at once, but if you can only get 2 at the moment, I would recomend Mickey Mouse in Living Color vol. 2 and On the Frontlines as I think those will be the 2 hottest sellers, you may still be able to find Donald a week after the intial release but wait any longer than that, and I fear you'll bbe playing with fire...

A week?!?!?!? Really?

Surely with the relatively small print run for Donald and huge run for Frontlines, Donald is likely to go quicker?

Well, back in 2002, when wave 2 came out, I made Mickey Mouse in Black in White my number 1 priority, and got it the day it came out, which was a good thing, because then it disappeared, but I noticed Goofy remained on the shelf for a couple weeks before disappearing all together as well, and finally Behind the Scenes.

I can almost garruntee you that Mickey will probably be the first to go, yet again, so that is a definate one, and it seems to me that it has always been your intention to pick this one up, so the real question is, out of the other 2, Donald and Wartime, which do you want the most, because I can speculate based on apparent popularity (Wartime now has the largest number of tins being produced, based on pre-sales this past summer) that Wartime will be gone before Donald, but the truth is that there are so many factors to consider, such as the point you brought up: Donald has fewer tins.

I guess you have to ask yourself, if you only get 2 and the other 2 dissapear before you can get them, which are the 2 that you would be LEAST dissappointed at NOT getting. If your answer is Wartime and Tomarrowland, then buy Mickey and Donald, because in the end, you may not be able to get all 4 if you do not but them all at once, so whiuch are the 2 you really care to have? :)

No, I don't think so. It has a smaller print run, because there's less demand, less pre-orders, etc. Less pre-orders is probably a good indication of less walk up purchasing, etc.

Is Donald really that popular? How many folks do you see with Donald shirts?

Heh, we'll see. But they lowered the numbers of Donald, and raised the number of Front Lines. I think that's a pretty clear indication that Front Lines is going to be way more popular than Donald.

Theoretically, they've adjusted the numbers based on the orders, so they should all disappear on exactly the same day. :)

Probably the best advice to the original poster, is to keep a close watch on it. Keep going to your video store, and see check the quantities remaining. Ask them if they're ordering more. If they disappear, then immediately buy the remaining ones online, etc. Don't go out for that dinner that week, so you can afford it.

What I want to get more than anything right now is Mickey Mouse in Living Color Volume 1  It's so hard to find that right now, cept of course for eBay which loves to rip us off. Anyone have an extra copy in a tin they would want to sell?

Thanks

RE: MMLC v1 in Tin on Ebay

Post by deadstone »

your best bet is to look on Ebay for one still factory-sealed in a tin (from a seller based in the US, with Feedback rating of at least 97% - 99% and more than 50 transactions) with a 'Buy it Now' option for around $30.

they do come up, you just have to keep checking back regularly till you see one.

Good luck

Judging from my experience today and the past few weeks with these Treasures...Seems Donald and Tomorrowland have been the most difficult to locate. You may want to pick those up first, IMO, if you can't do all 4 to have and be done with.

Surprisingly, my Best Buy here had a TON of both MMILC2 and OTFL. There were only 3 copies of Donald left though, and maybe 15 of Tomorrowland. Quite the opposite of what I expected.

Donald is now gone at Best Buy, I snatched the last two. Our Wal-Mart here is completely sold out, and Target had only 3 copies of Mickey. I knew they went fast- but wow!
