Disney Princess Criticism - What's Your Opinion?
Re: Disney Princess Criticism - What's Your Opinion?
Honestly, had the worlds biggest eye roll whilst reading that.
I truly don't believe the Princesses and their stories damaged my view on men and marriage at all. I really and honestly don't. It's shame for the films to be picked apart in this way at the moment, they can't be just enjoyed for what they are.

I think I've learned over the past two years to just ignore that. Those "experts" really have shallow readings of the films.

I agree with everyone's sentiments. I would not merely call it superficial; I'm convinced it's an intentional misreading of the films. There's no way that intelligent, highly-educated people lack fundamental analytical skills and are unable to tell the difference between a text that promotes domestic abuse and one that doesn't. They're either biased beforehand and are simply picking and choosing elements which confirm that bias or they're doing it out of personal interest since any criticism of the Disney films, and particularly of the princess ones, garners attention and publicity.

Sansa is a typical princess that dreams about marrying a handsome prince, move to a castle somewhere far away and live happily ever after, having lemon cake and tea with other nobilities. Martin breaks all of her illusions.farerb wrote:I don't think Martin is cynical
In Frozen the kind prince prove to be a villain, but Elsa and Anna didn't really have that big dreams. If anything, they would probably have preferred getting their parents back.
But that's just my opinion.
These are the kind of people that have already made up their mind and decided to hate every single Disney movie just out of principle, and find something wrong with every Disney princess movie ever made. More can play that game, but why wasting your time complaining about films that are loved by millions, either from Disney or another studio?Mooky wrote:NO HAPPY ENDING: Disney’s Beauty and the Beast promotes domestic abuse and Aladdin damages the self-esteem of those with darker skin, experts claim

I don't even bother reading articles like this anymore. Honestly, they all just regurgitate the mindless blather that other people have already said. Most of these people haven't seen the movies since they were kids, if even that.

"I don't like cartoons." One simple sentence. That's all that needs to be said. No other B.S.

I echo all your sentiments exactly.

Re: Disney Princess Criticism - What's Your Opinion?
I came across this blog called "Walt Disney Confessions Rage". Its creator claims that she finds confessions on the tumblr Disney Confessions blog, and comments on them on this one. I was very surprised to see a lot (and I really mean A LOT) of posts on the Disney Princesses and their negative influence on little girls' self esteem. Some users said they were so obsessed with the Princesses that they wanted to be like them physically (I'm talking about teenagers, like 12-13 years). Am I crazy to think that they are stupid? Here are a few examples
And here we have a grown woman who feel self conscious, because her boyfriend said he likes the Princesses for their small waists and big doe eyes.
I'm sorry if I'm being insensitive or too harsh, but I really do think this is stupid. You can't blame a company for drawing pretty Princesses, because you don't feel good about yourself, especially if you're an adult.
I can't help thinking that these people are stupid, especially if they want to look like them. They're adults, they should know by now that they can't possibly look like the Princesses, because they are animated characters (and unrealistic). Am I really supposed to feel sympathy for a person like this? I mean it's common sense...it's like that super ridiculous article on BuzzFeed where real-life girls are Photoshopped (quite badly, imo) to look like the Disney Princesses.

I really can't believe people are this stupid sometimes....

*Sigh* Guys you are aware that these are just cartoon characters right? They're not trying to deliberately send out a bad message or anything in their designs. If you're going to get on their case, why don't you criticize Disney and other studios for creating cartoon animals that walk upright and have non-realistic eyes?
Honestly.
Honestly.

I don't think those confessions are stupid. The first one is the only one that's a little strange, but they were 11-12 at the time.

Listening to most often lately:

LOl don't listen to that Aurora "expert" on fanpop. She's a terrible Disney fan and I'd hate to see her "representing" the fandom. She only likes Snow White, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty and goes on crazy "essays" about how Cinderella x Prince is a more developed romance than Aladdin and Jasmine, how Cinderella is better than Belle, how Snow White's Prince is more developed than Aladdin, and how Snow, Cinderella, Aurora and Vixey are better characters than those selfish sluts like Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, Mulan, Esmeralda, Meg and Kida. She hates the Renaissance and claims to be proudly pro-Walt but she also disregards any Walt film that isn't Sleeping Cindersnow. Not to mention she just disregards all the films of the Dark and Experimental ages. Coco apparently is "pandering" and Mexican culture is "overrated" (
) compared to Norwegian culture.
Like, screw her. We don't want her trash here.

You didn't have to call a person trash, but I said people were being dumb which is almost as bad. I'd love to read why Cinderella and Charming are a great couple, and also why Cinderella is better than Belle. Do you have links to those articles?
But your post was funny. Hey, also, am I Cher?!

True, we're all horrible trash. Except JeanGrey, she's legit. Well, according to that Cinderella is better because she's more patient than Belle, she doesn't have a temper, and Belle should've been obedient and stay outside of the West Wing and not shown the mirror to Gaston, stupid Belle. And Cinderella and Charming are better than Aladdin and Jasmine cause the Prince doesn't lie and they genuinely like unlike Aladdin who lies and Jasmine who urges him to kill himself and "blah blah blah"

Similar discussion with superheroes. People complaining unrealistic body types for them. Mostly women. Yet they're meant to be unrealistic. They're superheroes. Besides, this is nothing new. Superheroes/comics are modern takes on mythology. And then the body was idealized. Just go out to a museum or watch sculptures. Not to mention that these bodies can be obtained. Not only the actors already do but even regular people non the streets that do excercise. However, it is easier to complain instead of putting yourself to the gym and obtain that body.
In the case of the Princesses... please, girls have always liked them for a reason. They like nice and beautiful things. And there's nothing wrong with that. As some others have said it depends on the parents to let them know what reality is.

Has the Aurora "expert" tried to join this forum recently?thedisneyspirit wrote: Like, screw her. We don't want her trash here.
Aww thanks. But maybe I want to be trash like a certain spork. After all, "it's warm. It's cozy. And safe."thedisneyspirit wrote:True, we're all horrible trash. Except JeanGrey, she's legit.
I don't think the body types get criticized nearly as much as skimpy and impractical outfits for the female superheroes. That and weird, anatomically incorrect poses when they're drawn in the comics. And even when body types do get criticized, there's a lot of flack given to male characters for being portrayed so unrealistically as well.DC Fan wrote:Similar discussion with superheroes. I'll be Cher! Thanks for the explaining, but what did you mean Cinderella and Charming genuinely like? I think you made a spelling mistake there. It's ok, I am just wondering. I also don't get how Jasmine ever urged Aladdin to kill himself!!!thedisneyspirit wrote:True, we're all horrible trash. Except JeanGrey, she's legit. When Aladdin is by princess Jasmine's room I think it is the line:Disney Duster wrote:I'll be Cher! Thanks for the explaining, but what did you mean Cinderella and Charming genuinely like? Yes, Jasmine haters never seem to forget this line lol. It comes up a lot as ammunition against her on Fanpop.DisneyBluLife wrote: When Aladdin is by princess Jasmine's room I think it is the line:
