Well, they can't take any chances after Tarzan and The Little Mermaid flopped.
Tarzan was just a plain bad idea for a musical and TLM (while full of potential) was poorly executed. Newsies will be much easier to adapt since there's less special effects and simpler costume designs. It should be able to work it's way up to being a Broadway hit.

Ugh! I wanna see this, but I can't because I'm gonna be going to New York to visit my sister in less than two weeks and this show won't be starting till a few weeks after I fly home. Good gravy, I sure as hell hope it ends up getting an open run... :(

Disney's running a sweepstakes right now to win a trip to see Newsies! It's on the Newsies home page. I just watched some clips online of a few numbers, and it looks pretty fantastic. I'd love to see it. :D

My wife and I will be catching this while we're in NYC in April!

Even though I wasn't a huge fan of the film, I'm very intrigued with what they're going to do with this show and from what I've seen so far.

I just pre-ordered the Original Cast Recording CD!!! You can, too, at newsiesthemusical.com/music! With shipping (in the U.S.), it comes to $25. It will ship on April 30 (it's not released to stores until May 15). There also is a digital download (on iTunes) pre-order on the site.

So do I! I'm so happy that it receives rave reviews. It's got to win a Tony for Best Musical.

^ I am so happy that people are taking to Newsies! I mean, the movie's big fan base obviously is helping! And I do love the new songs, so it'd be amazing if it won a Tony! Or more than one!

Oh, and btw- the CD comes with 3 bonus tracks. I don't know if the Digital Download pre-order has those, too, or if the store-bought CD will. That's the main reason why I ponied up the extra money for the pre-ordered CD.

I haven't seen the show yet, I'm from California not New York. But if Disney makes Newsies into an open run, I'll ask my parents if we can take a trip to Broadway. In the meantime, I'm waiting for my cd to come. Does it come to my house on April 3oth or somewhere in May?

^ They'll ship it April 30th, so it'll probably get to you a few days after that! And I haven't seen the Broadway show yet, either, and I doubt I will unless they extend the run for at least a year, but I've loved everything I've seen and heard! I mean, I'm a die-hard fan of the movie, so obvs I <3 the show!

You can (legally) listen to the entire cast recording here.

The whole cast recording is amazing! My least favourite song is the new "That's Rich". It sounds like a watered-down version of "When You're Good to Mama" both score and lyric-wise. The rest of the songs are really good though. My favourite one is still "Santa Fe". Jeremy Jordan's performance is chilling and the altered lyrics are an improvement.
