This feels so pointless. Just bring back Whoopie Goldberg and Rowan Atkinson as well then. Because why not...

This will be an animated feature inevitably. There is no live action way to make this film.

I so agree.

I'm going to guess: Neil Patrick Harris will be Timon and Josh Gad will be Pumbaa.

Agree with the previous two. It feels so pointless and redundant to make a "live action" story out of this, if we're just gonna bring back the same voice actors and have shitty-ass "realistic" animation...

The original film is still there and as good as ever, I don't see what "improvements" can this CGI feast bring to the table. They could always amp up the Shakespeare or maybe base it around the Broadway show, but...Man after BATB none of the "live actions" sound promising...

I agree with the previous three. It's the only remake Disney's doing that I'm emphatically against. It feels so redundant, pointless, and uncreative. They could have done something different with it like re-imagining the story with African tribes. There's fan-art of that online and it looks much more interesting than what they're doing now.

Not to mention that remaking a hand-drawn animated film into a fully-CG one is offensive to all those 2D animators who worked on it. There isn't even the pretense that it's "live-action" anymore. Having their characters re-animated in photoreal CG and having the world telling them it's "better" and "modern" this way. :headshake:

I feel like they might be wanting to have a mostly (if not entirely) black cast. It's fair to argue that the original film could have been a little less white given its setting, especially since the stage version tends to have an entirely black cast.

But I could be wrong. Jeremy Irons' turn as Scar is just as iconic as James Earl Jones, IMO. We'll see how that goes.

I agree with all of you, especially now they have the same voice actor for a major character (But, seriously, there's only one Mufasa). But, if the rest of the cast is as good, that would be the only reason I'll see it.

Nathan Lane is still around to do Timon. I just can't imagine that character with another voice. Kind of like substituting than woman for Sterling Holloway's Kaa in The Jungle Book. That sucked, imo.

^oh just that i think they are really cool animals and they dont deserve the awful reputations they have. They were stereotyped as all being evil or mangy/stupid or both. At least they are now showing some good hyenas in Lion Guard. It be cool if maybe they show some good ones in the live action film as well, or maybe have Shenzi come to a truce with the lions at the end for helping them get rid of Scar.

well there were some back in the day who found the hyenas negative stereotypes of PoC, since they spoke in slang, lived in the "ghetto" part of the savanna and 2 of them were voiced by PoC. But I didnt mention it cuz it was such a dumb accusation.

also there was the Scar is a negative gay stereotype thing.

It looks like Elton John won't be writing new songs for the remake but songs from the Broadway musical may be included.
It’s tough to think of ‘The Lion King’ without thinking of Elton John — but apparently the remake won’t feature new music from the legend. We spoke with him exclusively before his annual Oscars party on Feb. 26, and he told us that he had no idea they were even making it.

“We didn’t even know it was being made,” Elton John, 69, told HollywoodLife.com on Feb. 26. “So Disney hasn’t even told us about it — That is how good Disney are!” Elton’s husband David Furnsih added that the answer was “we don’t know,” but Elton also added, “They (Disney) are the worst by the way!”

Favreau, hard at work on The Lion King, won’t just be referencing the original animated film. He’ll also travel to New York to meet with the team behind the Broadway production, and incorporate their ideas into the new film.

One of the things I appreciated about the new "Beauty and the Beast" is as much as Disney seemed to want to stamp out any acknowledgement of the Broadway musical, Condon and Menken were still clearly heavily influenced by it when putting the film together.

So it's good to see Favreau will incorporate elements from the Lion King musical into his remake.

I'm surprised b/c Menken is doing stuff for his movies. But, thank God they're adding songs from the musical. He Lives in You, Shadowland, and Endless Night need to have big screen adaptions.

They just say that now, see how they'll change the tune later on and instead scrap the Broadway songs only adding shitty new forgettable songs.

Yes, Disney is a pretty crap employer. I'm guessing he still remembers how they treated Gnomeo & Juliet.

For some reason I kind of thought this movie would be a non-musical outside "Circle of Life" and "Can't You Feel the Love Tonight." (Which, imo, wouldn't make the film a musical considering they play in the background just like with Tarzan.) If they do go full-out musical, I'd love to see Shadowland, He Lives in You, and Endless Night be included. I love TMoKS, too, but they probably wouldn't want Scar to be too comical here.
