@Journeys_Film
Doctor says SOUL is literally about the metaphysical questions like "why are we here?" In the movie Souls are "trained" in the You Seminar and given to babies, but what happens when your life doesn't go as planned? #D23Expo

The main character of Pixar’s ‘SOUL’ is a middle school band teacher who plays jazz on his off time. Unfortunately, life has delayed him from getting his big break and playing at club he dreams of getting into. #D23 #D23Expo

SOUL is about Joe, a middle school band teacher who dreams of being a jazz musician. After a literal misstep his soul ends up at You Seminar. (Just go with it.) #disneystudios #D23Expo #ad

I don't get it... He could have called the film "Inside Out 2: Souls", why didn't he just do that?

I don't really see the Inside Out connection from the newly released information.

The cast is very promising and a score by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross is also enticing. I am also glad that the movie seems to be explore jazz and soul music as well. Will Soul be the Inside Out to Onward’s The Good Dinosaur?

I don't know, I'm less interested after learning the protagonist is a middleschool teacher, but who knows. Phylicia Rashad though!

I see the similarity, and differences.

In Inside Out we only meet fragments of the soul, that together creates a whole person. When some of them are not in balance with the rest, the whole person is struggling. To be able to grow as a person there has to be a balance and harmony.

In Soul, it sounds like souls are going through some educational program before they graduate and are transferred to a body, to make sure they are able to fulfill their purpose on earth. But sometimes life on earth gets in the way and prevents the souls from fulfilling their purpose. So you will go through some struggle if you feel you haven't reached your full potential. Which makes you unhappy and holds you back, stopping you from moving on. Maybe even your whole life is put on hold for years.

It makes me think of the villain in the last season of Cloak & Dagger.

More info about how the souls of both the dead and still unborn hang out together:

https://www.polygon.com/2019/8/24/20827 ... escription
The main character is Joe Gardner, a middle school band director with a love of jazz. He dreams of playing at the Half Note, New York’s prestigious jazz club. Then, after 20 years of trying, he gets his wish. In a trailer, we see him emerge from a subway and rehearse on the piano at the club. When he nabs the gig, he’s beaming, and walking back down the city street ... where he falls down a manhole and dies. His soul separates from his body and goes to the great beyond.

The film revolves around You Seminar, a otherworldly location where souls are trained with quirks, abilities, and interests. “All the things that make you, you,” Doctor said at the presentation. Once ready, the souls graduate from You Seminar.

Joe is of the new souls at You Seminar. There, he meets a soul named 22 who thinks Earth sucks, and has remained at You Seminar for a hundred years. His journey with 22 will “make him think about what it means to have a soul.”

a score by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross
this a joke? seriously???
:o
like... I went through a huge NIN phase about 15 years ago, and I would always think Trent would make an awesome soundtrack for an animated film, maybe even a Disney one, if Disney would let themselves go a bit darker again ala Hunchback or Atlantis. Never really seriously though it would ever happen of course.

And here we are.

though to be honest looking at the stills, this really doesn't feel like something him and Ross would do, lol.

About the cast

Am all for Tin Fay in a Pixar movie and Jamie Foc can be good. But a musician i have never heard of in my entire life !, A woman who played the wife a convicted rapist on 70s sitcom and an a guy happand to be in a really famous broadway musical doesn't seem like that inspired casting to me.

Than i rther take the Addams Family from later this year which just added Martin Short ,Catherine O'Hara , one of the Guardians of the Galaxy and the co-star of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt to it’s cast. That’s good supporting ensemble right there !

Also now that we know John Ratzenberger is a Trump supporter must we still have him in EVERY single Pixar movie ? !

I hate trump as much as the next guy, but...Yes we need Ratzenberger in every Pixar movie. Its tradition, short of turning out to something truly awful like literal pedo or murderer I don't see any reason to stop now.

As mentioned before, what about not posting personal political opinions in here? It doesn't do the atmosphere in here any good, especially not when acting intolerant. This forum may have lower activity compared to others around, but it also contains a lot less of yelling, misunderstandings and shouting. The best way to keep it like that is to not judge others for having different opinions than themselves.

A little off topic stuff now and then is probably not a problem, but there are certain things that tends to create an aggressive tone, like politics. At least in some contexts. And often the problem is the attutide. Remember that members have different views on things. The rules says "Members must be courteous and respectful to each other". Telling someone, directly or indirectly, that they are bad persons because they have voted for the president, doesn't add much to a discussion. Nothing personal, just a friendly reminder.

Phylicia Rashad is great actress, beyond The Cosby Show. I am looking forward to Tina Fey, too, I don't think I said that before.

Oi, I did not know that. Thankfully I'm not too much of a PIXAR fan anyway. I guess it suits a company created by Lasseter anyway. Ho-hum. Ratzenberg has done good voice work, for what it's worth.
