Walt's Personal Opinions of His Films
Re: Walt's Personal Opinions of His Films
I know what it's like, you're all "omg new Disney - must purchase before it goes back to Vault, may not be around again, haven't seen it for years etc etc" then you get it and watch it and feel a vague wave of disappointment . . . . or is that just me ?
Re: Walt's Personal Opinions of His Films
Nah, I think it happens to everyone and not just with Disney. It's only a normal part of (re)discovering what you enjoy the most in entertainment and your tastes growing or being molded further. You either gain a new appreciation for films/music or go 'WTH was I thinking?' -- but the most important things is that there's no right or wrong opinion; in the end, it's your preference and no one can or should tell you you're mistaken.
Also, nostalgia can be blinding. I remember thinking Pet Sematary was the scariest movie ever when I was 9 or 10. Seeing it recently, I found the movie to be laughable beyond any words. Similarly, Disney's Hocus Pocus is quite revered around here, but I first saw it when I was in my early twenties, so any liking and attachment I might have had for it had I seen it as a child did not exist, and I thought the movie was terrible. Opposite happens as well: I was indifferent towards original Star Trek films, but loved them on repeated viewings.

Very, very true.
I do firmly believe that films are made up of moments. Disney is no exception; I love and cherish when the Blue Fairy make Pinnochio a real boy, and 'When you wish upon a star' but I really don't have a desire to watch the entire movie every so often. I love 'Baby Mine' but I won't watch Dumbo anytime soon.
