What Disney movie did you just watch?

Another movie that I'd add into those "fact of life" experiences would be The Lion King, which I watched last night. I know that it's not a popular opinion to put this among your favorite Disney movies on here, but I just don't care. I love basically every frame of this movie, so there.

I also watched Peter Pan earlier today, in preparation of a particular commentary track.

Regarding The Fox and the Hound....

I´m amazed by how odd and fast they made a 180 on the friendship of these characters.

How is that Big Mama sings about their friendship when she sees them playing together and the moment Copper leaves with Amos she starts telling him that their friendship is over because from now on he´ll hunt him down?

Yeah, I'm kind of surprised TLK is so disliked here and elsewhere. I always enjoyed the film as a child and still now. I think where it's the most well-known Disney film to the current generation, it gets backlash because there are so many people who describe as perfection and untouchable. I think it has flaws like every other movie, but it's still one of their best to me.

Because Copper is dumb. I know that I've only ranted about the Hound before, but I just hate him. Copper assumes that the friendship should end because of what his Master says and ignores the idea that he could just be friends with Todd anyways and screw the system, but no.

Just saw Tangled...

Love it!

To me it was just a nice movie when I first saw it. Now, every time I do find it to be better and better.

The movie has the right amount of comedy, drama and adventure.

And I love the ending when Rapunzel´s parents hug Flynn.

Well, every scene with Rapunzel´s parents was perfect. They felt very human. With just the subtle animation used.

Big Mama was being realistic and trying not to bring down Todd's hopes and try and not crush his dreams of being friends with Copper for a lifetime. However Copper didn't have to cut of the friendship and tried and protect Todd from the Framer and other Hound Dog. But Copper is the one that ends it just because. Which makes me think that he's a bit of a selfish, self-centered jerk.
And when the Master Hound gets injured Copper gets furious at Todd, but when the Farmer and the other Dog wanted to chase and kill Todd he didn't really care as much. Copper is a ass.

Dogs are very loyal creatures by nature and Amos Slade & Chief are his family, so naturally he's going to obey and stick by them. Also, I didn't find his decision to be selfish because he knew seeing Tod was too risky and could jeopardize Tod's safety, therefore it seemed to be the best thing not to see each other. Copper even says "I don't wanna see you get hurt" so he obviously cares for Todd, it's just his loyalties lie elsewhere.

I watched Fantasia last week, for the first time on Blu-ray. Yes, that's right, I got a blu-ray player now. My opinion about the movie is still the same: my favorite segments areThe sourcerer's apprentice, Rite of Spring and Night on Bald mountain, followed by The Nutcrackers's Suite andDance of the hours. My least favorite still is The Pastorale not because of the mythology or the music, which is wonderful, but because of the animation style which is too sugary to my taste. Still I enjoy all segments.

This was a great weekend to watch Disney movies:

Old Yeller - From the Vault Collection, this special edition DVD set has so many extras, that I keep wondering why Disney has issued this on Blu-ray. Starring Dorothy McGuire, Fess Parker, Tommy Kirk, Kevin Corcoran, and Jeff York. A great story about a mangey yellow dog who comes into the life of the pioneer family headed by McGuire and Parker, and is quickly adopted by the youngest son. The ending of this movie still makes me tear up wonderfully. Love this movie and watch it on a regular basis.

Pocohontas - The Blu-ray edition of this fill looks wonderful and is among my favorite later year Disney films. The music never fails to move me, and the story is told beautifully.

The Story of Robin Hood & His Merrie Men - DVD that I received from via DMR. Aside from a terrible transfer of the film, it is still one of the better tellings of the legend of Robin Hood. Joan Rice as Maid Marianne adds to the charm of this film. Richard Todd is the perfect Robin Hood.

Song of the South - Bootleg Blu-ray version of this wonderful Disney film that I personally think Disney is missing out making a boatload of money with a legal release. This two-disc Blu-ray set contains over 3 hours of extras, including two different "Behind the Scenes of", and all of the edited scenes from past Disney releases including "Fantasia", "Melody Time", and "Make Mine Music." The quality of this Blu-ray far exceeds anything that I would expect from a "legal" release. The music and the animation are second to none, and "Zip-A-Dee-Do-Dah" takes on a whole different meaning. James Baskett as Uncle Remus and Bobby Driscoll and Luana Patten are wonderful as the children.

Mary Poppins - 40th Anniversary Edition - Incredibly great movie and tons of extras. Julie Andrews IS Mary Poppins, and this movie would be just ho-hum if it wasn't for her and the great Dick Van Dyke. All of the music and dance numbers jump off the screen, and make me realize that the new Blu-ray release is not too far away and will be at the top of my list for an upgrade.

Fantasia - My absolute favorite Disney Animated Classic. I watched the Blu-ray of the film, and the picture quality is spectacular (miles above the previously released DVD; funny enough, I watched the making-of on that DVD and it's amazing to see how much work was put into the restoration). Fantasia is a million things: inventive and creative, humorous and heartbreaking, mature and innocent, fun and somber; it's magical entertainment that never ceases to amaze me. The special effects department deserves a huge round of applause for everything that they did for the film. The animation is superb and each vignette is, though unique and different from the others, still connecting to all of the other ones. It's a master class in animation, music, and cinema, and I never get tired of watching it. I could go on, but I don't want to bore anyone

The Lone Ranger

Can't see why it was such a big flop...I mean, it was way better than the 3rd and 4th Pirates...During the third act with the train chase I felt like a little kid jumping on the edge of my seat.

I would say people think watching a movie with Disney in front of it is uncool, but then the muppets should have failed too....and the whole native indian/depp debate is just useless ... :S

Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh and Wreck-it Ralph-for the former, I thought it was nice and sweet, but I didn't have enormous love for it. Ralph is one I love immensely!

I´ve been doing this Pixar marathon so I´ll give my impressions as brief as possible:

Toy Story

Still as good today as it ever was. The animation, aside from the dog (since humans are barely on screen) also holds up. Probably it was a good idea to start their movies with toys.

A Bug´s Life

Can´t believe this one is so overlooked. It had to be really impressive back then with the nature as setting an so much more characters on screen. The story is very good and it is extremely funny. My second favorite Pixar movie.

Monsters Inc.

Not one of my favorites. I do get why it is good but it just doesn´t click with me. Maybe because as a child I never thought of monsters on my room.

Finding Nemo

My favorite Pixar film. Love the world under the sea so just because of that was a winner in my eyes. Add to that the great animation, awesome story and even better Dory.

The Incredibles

One of the Pixar´s movies that never gets old. It is amazing how good this movies is. From the whole idea to the way it unfolds.

Cars

Add me to the ones that just doesn´t care for this universe. At least the animation is great as usual and has emotion

Ratatouille

A movie that I couldn´t understand until recently. Not a movie I watch often but when I do I let myself go. Really nice how it does feel like an European movie.

Wall E

Another one from Pixar that I don´t see often. However, everything is great in this movie. Unbelievable how you do get to care for these robots and how much emotions they portray.

Up

My third favorite Pixar movie. A film that has both drama and a great humor.

Toy Story 3

Awesome movie that we all can agree on that. Because it is so sad I don´t like to watch it so often. However, I have to let myself remember the good funny moments on it: Ken and Spanish Buzz.

Cars 2

Always thought that this movie had everything going for it in order to be better that the first. Sadly it is not so. As an action movie it delivers but nothing else. It just lacks any kind of character personality and emotion.

Brave

Can´t believe it is a Pixar film. It is way better than the Cars movies for sure. But it still lacking. It just doesn´t reach any kind of potential. However, the characters and they relations are good.

Now, moving on to Disney:

Peter Pan

Alongside, Alice in Wonderland, The Emperor´s New Groove and Lilo & Stitch it is one of the most fun Classics. However, I don´t like any of the segments that include the Indians and several segments are not top notch. With a similar premise and story progress I prefer Alice.

The Little Mermaid

My second favorite Disney movie. Love that it was made in the 80´s since it shows in the animation and how dark it is at some points; like when Ursula is eating one of those live animals. To me it is just perfect.

101 Dalmatians

A movie that doesn´t seem to click for me. And on top of that I don´t see why people like it so much.

To me, aside from the animation, the only thing going for it is how always modern and fresh it feels.

the Rescuers Down Under-easily as good as the original film. Definitely loved the scope and found cody to be a likable enough new character. First time seeing too.

And yeah, I've been doing this Disney Marathon since my last post, so Winnie the Pooh, Brother Bear, Atlantis, Emperor's New Groove, and the Rescuers and Fantasia 2000 have been viewed this week.

The many adventures of Winnie-the -Pooh Cute. I like the animation style, especially how the actual book plays a part in the story.
Of course it's all very tame compared to the average classic Disney animated features. No small child will be scared by this in any way. So perfect for overworried parents too.

Mary Poppins (Robert Stevenson)

You will HATE me for saying this: but I still don’t get the appeal of this flick. It's weird because one of my favorite Disney musicals that gets often compared to that flick (“Bedknobs and Broomsticks”) features the same Director, musical crew, special effects gimmicks, and 1 of the same actors (David Tomlinson). Broomsticks is longer than Poppins, and yet I find the former more engaging than the latter. I have nothing against Julie Andrews, I just don’t see what’s so great about her titular character.

Beauty and the Beast on Blu-Ray


Probably my favorite Disney fairy tale, the characters are recognizable, the songs are memorable (my favorite song is a tie between Belle and Be Our Guest), the restoration on the Blu-Ray looks beautiful but almost as beautiful as the restoration for the Fantasia Blu-Ray, and i prefer the theatrical cut of the movie instead of the Special Edition with Human Again. It doesn't work for me. I never stopped loving the movie and it always makes me smile when i watch it.

Toy Story (John Lasseter)

It's official, I should never watch the original Toy Story film by myself, because if I watch it by myself I'll mimic the characters dialogue due to knowing this film line for line. I swear the next time I watch it with company, I'll be very considerate to not do this embarrassing action. Joss Whedon, please don't write for another animated film again. As much as I might enjoy it like I adore this one, I don't want to ruin my own individual viewing experience with it.
