Re: Any Game of Thrones fans?
I finally caught up with the season, and I have to say that this recent episode is definitely one of my favorites. I, unfortunately, was already spoiled as to what would happen during this episode, but watching the ending was still pretty gruesome. This episode definitely solidified my love for the show. And, can I just say how much of a fan I am of Daenerys Targaryen? The Mother of Dragons has been my favorite character since season one, and I've loved watching her storyline this season. I can't wait to see what becomes of her; I've never read the novels, so I have no idea what'll happen to her, but I hope it's great.

The show is full of delicious characters! Tyrion, Cersei, Jaime (especially when he's with Brienne), Arya, Daenerys, Margaery, Lady Olenna and Lord Varys are my favourite ones!

Poor Theon...
I'm kidding, he deserved that.
Loved this season. I would have preferred more Sansa and Cersei scenes, particularly in this episode, but alas. A fantastic series among the best TV has ever offered.

I really love seeing the Lannisters just shoot the shit. As irritating as Cersei can be, I cherish every scene she and Tyrion have by themselves.
I also loved Dany's one scene. She gets the shaft on the show solely because she gets the shaft in the books, and even then, the show expands upon her story arc, but after last season's bits with her, I loved just about everything with her this season.

Re: Any Game of Thrones fans?
I have only watched the first episode of the first season mere moments ago, not knowing exactly what to expect. The opening scene featured some impressive-for-TV visuals, although was little more than a horror movie prologue. Most of the episode had the sense of going through the necessary introductions and beginnings, moving through the plot in the mechanical manner of excessively faithful book-to-film adaptations, and there was constantly a feeling of having seen these characters and these situations many times before; there was quite a bit of predictability to the whole plot (albeit apart from the genuinely shocking final moments). Aside from that, it also had the slightly annoying - but potentially unavoidable - suggestion that we should automatically care about the kingdoms, who's marrying who and whatnot. And I kept feeling as though it was carefully designed to appeal to adult fans of fantasy, giving them unnecessary profanity and nudity to try and convince viewers that it was adult.
Still, it was fortunately a bit more Shakespeare than soap opera, and I am hopeful that it goes more along the lines of showing the pointlessness and bloody savagery of the scruples over kingdoms, as hinted by what happens to the young woman essentially sold to a savage by her brother in exchange for an army. Another plus is the acting: Harry Lloyd's role seems at this point to be one-dimensional, but it's Harry Lloyd. He's interesting. He's enjoyable to watch. I was happily surprised by the presence of Roger Allam too. Peter Dinklage's role is one of the more compelling characters, but I think that's attributable to how dull the rest of them are. And Dinklage's character is another return to the sense that the show is trying to appeal to lonely, stereotypically awkward fantasy fans: he's a dwarf, yet he's witty and has plenty of sex. Giving credit where credit is due, the child characters - which can be difficult to get right - are written well, and for some reason or another, I want to watch more of it.

I would wait giving any judgement or analysis of Game of Thrones until you've seen the full first three seasons. Trust me, you think you know... but you have NO idea.
This show is phenomenal and defies all genre conventions.

Re: Any Game of Thrones fans?
When I saw the show the first time, II never thought it was nearly as predictable as you described. But rest assured it gets less predictable and more tense the more you watch. After all, the first episode or installment or chapters always has the burden of introductions. This show-and the books-revels in turning first impressions on their ears and loves making it hard for a viewer to pick a side: a task that seems easy as hell at first. And the horror movie prologue is definitely made a more credible threat through a combination of old legends and bad omens. Still kinda like a horror movie, but more thrilling than most,Dr Frankenollie wrote:I have only watched the first episode of the first season mere moments ago, not knowing exactly what to expect. Watch the rest of the first season and let us know what you thought! I think it's one of the best shows I've ever seen and it has me eating from its hands!Dr Frankenollie wrote:I have only watched the first episode of the first season mere moments ago, not knowing exactly what to expect. I missed the third season entirely so I got the Blu-Ray today. I don't know if I should revisit the first two seasons or just watch the reap and go right into the third.

Re: Any Game of Thrones fans?
Saw first a few episodes of the first and second season, afterwards read the book because I had a hard time distinguishing between characters,
The books are pretty good. I love the internal monologues and different POVs that Martin writes. It puts everything in such a new perspective.
And of course the show kicks ass! Next season will be so good!
I myself have been dying to buy some Funko Pops of the series, but most of the characters in the line are ones I don't care for or look hideous as dolls (the first Dany, Jon, Arya...). I think I only liked Drogon and Ghost as Pops in that series.
That's why I'm hopeful we have more next season. Sansa! Dany in her purple gown! Perhaps even some "unpopular" characters like Catelyn, Melisandre, Theon, Jaqen H'ghar...

Well, he is well-liked in general (as compared to, say, Theon), but he's not as popular as say Ned or Drogo or the Lannisters.

Re: Any Game of Thrones fans?
That was a great start! But I was hoping they'd justify the recasting by making Daario a faceless man too. Does anyone else find Michiel Huisman too likable? I'll miss Ed Skrein's presumptuousness.
