Best Disney Prologue In Your Opinion?

I wonder if Disney will ever go back to producing the prince-princess fair-tales... Are there left any anyway?

Well, I'm not even sure it would fit today's tone and what the kids of today are used to.

I don't see why is should be different for Disney films (and their sequels)

Oh no! This means that all the villains we thought were dead (Scar, Gaston, Shan Yu, The Evil Queen, etc) may actually be alive????

P.S. There's probably already a thread about this somewhere, but has anyone noticed how many Disney villains 'die' by falling? I read somewhere that this is so kids won't get too scared.

well, Rapunzel is coming....maybe it will have the book prologue to and stuff...

I hope so! Can anyone think of any? Kids made the transition back to BATB, etc. from the 80s stuff, so I don't think it would be a problem.

If prince/princess stories are all spent, they can still do fairy tales or classic works of literature.

Well, there's:

The Frog Prince
The Princess and the Pea
Rumplestiltskin (could be reworked to include a Princess)
The Nightingale (again could be reworked)
Donkeyskin
Puss in Boots
Hansel and Gretel (some versions have the children as Prince and Princess left to die by a wicked uncle)

I think Hansel & Gretel and Rumpelstilskin both have some potential for a movie a la Beauty & The Beast.

Disney never kills off villians. Walt never did-he said that although there's no denying what happened to her in the film, in real life it turns out she lived, and did so in the comics.

Ughh . . . I have a strange premonition that it will be a storybook opening, but it will turn out to be a 'gag', like in Shrek (I liked Shrek's, but it only works once). I mean, with a title like "Rapunzel: Unbraided" . . .

Those would make great Disney Classics! For some reason I see Martin Short as Rumpelstilskin. I don't know why. And for Hansel and Gretel, the DVD could include original art from the unfinished Walt era Mickey and Minnie version and the Mickey Mouse Works Silly Symphony Short (which had wonderful music)!

Another Fairy tale could be the Twelve Dancing Princesses which would boost the Princess Promotions with not one, but TWELVE more princesses. Wait a minute, I'm starting to doubt myself. Is this a real story or am I confusing it with Seven Brides for Seven Brothers? Wait, is that a real fairy tale? Gahh...nm...

How about Goldilocks and the Three Bears with a cameo by Humphrey or Kenai or something, lol. Okay, getting waaaay off topic...

Best Disney prologues to me are still Atlantis and BATB and others

I think that Goldilocks and Seven Dancing Princesses are both too lacking (in terms of being able to fill a movie) and would be better as shorts than as feature films. The other two, though, have potential. Also, while I haven't read Rip Van Winkle, it seems to me like a good source for a quality 2D musical.

As far as some of those Fairy Tales mentioned not being able to fill an enitre feature. They could always split it in half and do 2 per feature film a la "The Adventures of Icabod & Mr. Toad"

I think that Disney only mastered Prologues in the last few decades. My favorite prologues include The Great Mouse Detective (when the inventor is kidnapped), The Rescuers Down Under (with the kid), Beauty and the Beast (with the stained-glass windows), Aladdin (with the salesman), and The Lion King (with the Circle of Life opening).

As for the best one, I think that I prefer Aladdin since it sets the mood for the entire movie in that one scene (and I love Aladdin). But, the most moving prologue really is The Lion King's.

I don't know, I may have posted on this thread already, but I actually think the best prologue was one not used - the original viking opening to Atlantis (which is on the DVD)
