Sofia the First
Exactly. I know the princess marketing stuff can get out of hand but then we have kid shows about pirates, violent Japanese import cartoons, and all kinds of other violent and negative images on TV. This seems rather harmless unless I see the show for myself and think otherwise.ajmrowland wrote:It's just a Disney Princess preschool show.

I've just taken a quick look at this. I hadn't heard of it before. It's been years since I've been on the ball about Disney's upcoming projects. So many get canceled anyway, ha. Though, the Disney Channel stuff never seems to...
I think this is a cute idea for something so gimmicky, but of course I expect it to be something like the Neverland Pirates when finally done. I would prefer it to be a show where they don't talk to the audience, for one thing, asking, "Which tool should I use?" or something like that, as if what the kid in the audience says is going to affect the outcome. Kid in the audience says hammer, Mickey says, "That's right, the screwdriver!" I'd prefer they just tell some cute, lesson-teaching stories with some decent animation. Heck, I can sit and watch Baby Looney Tunes, but I can't watch these shows when they start wasting time asking me what they should do. It's YOUR show, YOU make a decision, jeez. Yeah, I know they're for kids, but I was a kid once too, and the people in the TV never asked me for advice. I still learned a lot from them.
Sorry, that's a personal rant. I feel like kids' shows should be entertaining for the adults who sometimes have to watch them with the kids too. That means, tell a decent story with some decent visuals and don't waste time talking to the audience. They can play a video game if they want something interactive.
But, maybe I'm the only one who feels this way, I don't know. I just think we need a comeback of shows like DuckTales and Fraggle Rock.

I think the kids realize that they were simply wrong when the character says "That's right! [Insert correct answer here]!" I don't think kids think logically about the show as much as an adult would.
Still, it is annoying and they should do studies (like, well-done and non-invasive) studies to see if kids really learn better like that or simply like it better.

First look at Sofia the First. It's gonna be in CG. It looks terrible.
From the images released, I thought it was going to be 2D Flash-animated like Jake and the Never Land Pirates. I'm not sure if the CG Sebastian, Flounder, Dalmatians, Mrs. Pots & Chip will be part of the Sofia the First show or from somewhere else but they look like low-budget video game graphics.

I think the interstitial animation is what looks bad, but the Sofia the first animation looks less bad.
Honestly...it kinda looks nice after the low expectations I had.
The animation fits the show - something that sounds kinda nice but kinda lame and isn't really a going to give kids top quality.
Did you honestly expect better animation? This is just for preschoolers.
