Did anyone else get a Nintendo 3DS?

Any topic that doesn't fit elsewhere.

Since it's a fad, like 3D tv, that's going to die a quick death real soon, I passed on it.
Think about this. Once bread becomes toast, you can't make it back into bread.

It's just a fad and yet, they're still trying to sell it. Surely by now, they would've stopped.

I found this article interesting this week.

http://kotaku.com/5814119/maybe-3d-isnt ... endo-hints

I still haven't played a 3DS, although I want one. To me the main selling point isn't 3D, but the exclusives that will come out. I've put off getting one because at $250 there wasn't any "must haves" for me. With Zelda out now, and the E3 announcement I will pick up one later in the year. I'm not sure I'll even use the 3D on it. I've heard mixed things from people. I'm not a 3D fan, but I will give it a try. Even without 3D I think the games for the 3DS look great, and a good upgrade over the DS game library.

Anyway I also agree that 3D is a fad, but this time it looks like it will stick around.

Right: there's no problem with turning the 3d off if you don't like it. Personally I cannot stand to have it cranked all the way up for more than a few minutes, so I simply turn it down to half or so--and if I get a headache, I just switch it off. Maybe the 3d isn't necessary, but it's pretty cool and there's no harm in having the option available to people who want it!

In any case, even if the 3d effect is "just a fad," it's ALSO a stepping stone to newer and greater technology, interactive holograms and who knows what else. Frankly I don't get why anyone would rag on progress like that: it's exciting!

I've found one of the big complaints is when theaters don't offer a 2D showing (it happens). That's when people that do not like 3D get very upset. That's why I love that Nintendo made 3D optional on the 3DS.

I don't see 3D leading to anything other than more 3D right now... 3D has been around forever, but this time it seems to have caught on. As long as there are 2D options for movies/games (some people can not watch 3D), I have no problem with it. Its "neat" and has its purpose for some things.

I do get a little annoyed with the recent push on every movie being in 3D, because its not always done properly... but thats going way off topic. :)

http://kotaku.com/5825495/nintendo-3ds- ... price-drop

HUGE price cut coming in August! With the new price, and games coming out end of the year, I think the 3DS is finally worth it. For those that already bought a 3DS at the launch price you get access to 20 free games from the shop.

I know sales have been slow, but I wonder if PS Vita's upcoming release/price had anything to do with this huge cut?

It was undoubtably a huge factor in the price decrease. First of all, you can't release a handheld gaming console with no good launch titles and poor battery life at such a high price (higher then an iPod touch and higher then a Wii). Most people are not only waiting for some of the big games to come out before taking the dive but they also are naturally assuming that there will be a 3DS lit down the road with better battery life, in addition to a price drop (things to consider).

So when the PSP Vita was announced as having a $250 price tag and that it would be released by year end; most people knew a price drop was imminent (hell, it only costs $10 more to manufacture then the DSi XL, so everyone knew they were being gouged from the start). When parents got to get their kid something for Christmas and they see the two handheld systems next to each other for the same price, they're going to pick up whichever one is the best value (definitely the Vita). Nintendo admitted that they weren't originally going to sell it at such a high price but after seeing the positive reaction at E3, they decided to increase the price. My guess is the $169.99 price tag is what they were originally going to sell it at before deciding to gouge us (which backfired).

So, between low sales, huge quarterly losses as a result and the oncoming threat of the PSP Vita this holiday season, Nintendo had to react. I have a feeling that they just helped their holiday sales for this system big time.

I saw the price drop coming. I'm glad Nintendo is giving the current customers something though. It's very generous of them in my opinion. I can't wait for the 20 free games to be released. :)

After doing some comparing, after receiving one as a gift, I decided that it was a true waste of time, and took it in and got store credit for it, which I have since used. My DSi will do just fine, couldn't see what the big deal was with the 3DS. Waste of time, in my humble opinion.

^well, there are definitely good titles to come. Exclusive ones among them. I wouldnt be so quick to give it up.

But that's my humble opinion.

I agree.

The 3DS has had a weak line up so far in my opinion, but later in the year looks good. I'm sure more titles will only be on the 3DS, and Nintendo will start to fade the DS Lite/DSi out. Even without 3D, the graphics are improved over the old DS models. Personally I never saw the need to upgrade to a DSi from my DS Lite. I debated getting the XL, but by the time it was released the 3DS was announced.

Anyway with the new price, once some more exclusives are released I see the 3DS doing well during the holidays and into 2012.

The system really needed this price drop. It just came a lot sooner than I thought. I thought it would be closer to the PS Vita's launch.

Personally, I'm waiting to see if there's a KH bundle for around $200. I'd get that.
