They kinda already broken into the PG-13 ground with the POTC film franchise but that was mostly for the scary characters and action sequences.

It could be we all have our own different ideas of mature. I don't think that Disney will ever have the balls to do animated films that feature alot of sex and nudity and gore nor would I want them to.

Now if by mature, you mean dealing with themes like abuse, death, mental illness, and post-apocalyptic scenarios in a more serious and intense matter than what's been done in the past at Disney then yes. You don't need sex, cursing, and gore to tell a mature but good story.

Holy crap!

I just googled it and you weren't kidding!
Nope, I wouldn't joke about that. I remember when I read it, my first thought was "Wow, way to steal that idea." Then my second thought was "This is going to be a clusterfuck of incredible proportions based off the press release alone." From that description, it just seems like such a bizarre hash of ideas to the point that it sounds different from everything I ever read about Disney's attempts. I mean, Don Bluth essentially took the idea of "Chanticleer" to use as "Rock-a-Doodle" and we all saw how that turned out...
"Ta ta ta taaaa! Look at me... I'm a snowman! I'm gonna go stand on someone's lawn if I don't get something to do around here pretty soon!"

It hasn't been "Walt's company" since 1966. You know, with him being dead and all that...
milojthatch wrote:I'd agree with many here so far as that "Hunchback" was probably the most "mature" in the modern sense of the word that they have ever made. And it is also the one that has been attacked by parents the most. I've yet to meet many parents who are ok with their kids watching that one.
I have yet to meet one parent who thinks HoND is not suitable for children. Now, Black Cauldron is a different story. But what is bad about TLM?

He probably thinks it's too sexual, I guess. And there is a definite sexual vibe to it, but nothing bad, imo.

I've also had Snow White in my sig once, but that's far from my favorite movie. :P I'm trying to do one for every movie, instead of doing Mermaid over and over.

But I'm serious. I do think Hunchback is getting overrated--it's becoming almost like a cult favorite at this point. I mean, the opening and the "Hellfire" sequences are brilliant, and I love Tony Jay, but the movie in general is pretty middle of the road.

I think Hunchback is becoming more recognized by young people who saw the movie in theaters when they were kids and just remember the goofiness and lame gargoyles. Watching it again, me and my friends definitely have a new appreciation for its maturity and rather edgy themes. And I hated it as a kid. I think this film could been even better if it distanced itself from the usually Disney-esque elements of animation and tried to accomplish something a little more mature.

What I really want is less of this stupid new comedy. New as in, ha(!), 20+ years ago, but Disney hasn't dropped it yet. I know I'm not the only one who feels this way too. I'm sick to death of the damn one-liners. I miss those romantic fantasies (I'm not just talking romantic as in boy-meets-girl, but the romantic way they handled all their stories) with washy-reality Disney used to make. I want more heady films, which I guess would disturb the dang parents of today's kids. But I want it anyway.

I want Disney to make a animated movie about a Penis and how he finds true love with a girl name Vagina.

The SyMBoliiZm would be very DEEP.

Yeah, they would not like a scary disney movie. Here in holland, there were a lot of angry parrents. When Frollo compared gipsys with ants, while he crushed those ants with a piece of stone. It gained alot of media atention for that!

It did? I didn't notice anything like that. In fact, I remember the film being heavily promoted in the 'Donald Duck' weekly magazine. Never heard of any controversy.
